Oscillation Criteria for a Class of Hyperbolic Equations with Functional Arguments
Norio, Yoshida KYUNGPOOK UNIVERSITY 2001 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.41 No.1
Hyperbolic equations with functional arguments are studied and sufficient conditions are obtained for every solution of certain boundary value problems to be oscillatory in a cylindrical domain. The approach used is to reduce the multi-dimensional oscillation problems to one-dimensional problems for functional differential inequalities.

The asymptotic behaviour of the solutions of initial - boundary value problem for a class of nonlinear parabolic differential - functional equations is studied via the method of differential inequalities in order to obtain oscillation criterion for the solutions.
Elucidating the Molecular Origin of Hydrolysis Energy of Pyrophosphate in Water
Hong, Jooyeon,Yoshida, Norio,Chong, Song-Ho,Lee, Chewook,Ham, Sihyun,Hirata, Fumio American Chemical Society 2012 Journal of chemical theory and computation Vol.8 No.7

The molecular origin of the energy produced by the ATP hydrolysis has been one of the long-standing fundamental issues. A classical view is that the negative hydrolysis free energy of ATP originates from intramolecular effects connected with the backbone P–O bond, so called “high-energy bond”. On the other hand, it has also been recognized that solvation effects are essential in determining the hydrolysis free energy. Here, using the 3D-RISM-SCF (three-dimensional reference interaction site model self-consistent field) theory that integrates the ab initio quantum chemistry method and the statistical mechanical theory of liquids, we investigate the molecular origin of hydrolysis free energy of pyrophosphate, an ATP analogue, in water. We demonstrate that our theory quantitatively reproduces the experimental results without the use of empirical parameters. We clarify the crucial role of water in converting the hydrolysis free energy in the gas phase determined solely by intramolecular effects, which ranges from endothermic, thermoneutral, to highly exothermic depending on the charged state of pyrophosphate, into moderately exothermic in the aqueous phase irrespective of the charged state as observed in experimental data. We elucidate that this is brought about by different natures of solute–water interactions depending on the charged state of solute species: the hydration free energy of low-charged state is mainly subjected to short-range hydrogen-bonds, while that of high-charged state is dominated by long-range electrostatic interactions. We thus provide unambiguous evidence on the critical role of water in determining the ATP hydrolysis free energy.

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

Oscillation Criteria for a Class of Parabolic Equations with Functional Arguments
Yutaka Shoukaku,Kusuo Kobayashi,Norio Yoshida 경북대학교 자연과학대학 수학과 2003 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.43 No.2
Parabolic equations with functional arguments are studied, and sufficient conditions are obtained for the oscillation of solutions of nonlinear parabolic equations. Our approach is to reduce the multi-dimensional problem to a one-dimensional problem for sublinear functional differential inequalities.

The high plateaus in west China may provide suitable sites for astronomical observations with the institute's middle-range telescopes and possibly with larger telescopes. Under China-Japan collaborations for site survey in west China, we have been conducting searches for good sites and monitoring their characteristics over several years. As recent results of our site survey show, sites in west Tibet are revealed with a high possibility of good astronomical observations. Weather characteristics at Gar in Ali, Tibet, show its high clear-sky ratios, especially in winter, comparable to Mauna Kea, Hawaii. But it has some wind problem in winter, where stronger wind speeds, over 20m/sec, occur frequently even though the sky is clear. To find calmer sites, we have conducted numerical simulations for the Ali area using the Japan Meteorological Agency NonHydrostatic Model. We have found another site, named ZoZo Hill, near Gar. We will continue to monitor the Gar site to clarify weather characteristics over the whole year and hopefully start to negotiate for site monitoring at ZoZo Hill this year.

DNA methylation is an epigenetic modification that results in dynamic changes during ontogenesis and cell differentiation. DNA methylation patterns regulate gene expression and have been widely researched. While tools for DNA methylation analysis have been developed, most of them have focused on intergroup comparative analysis within a dataset; therefore, it is difficult to conduct cross-dataset studies, such as rare disease studies or cross-institutional studies. This study describes a novel method for DNA methylation analysis, namely, methPLIER, which enables interdataset comparative analyses. methPLIER combines Pathway Level Information Extractor (PLIER), which is a non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) method, with regularization by a knowledge matrix and transfer learning. methPLIER can be used to perform intersample and interdataset comparative analysis based on latent feature matrices, which are obtained via matrix factorization of large-scale data, and factor-loading matrices, which are obtained through matrix factorization of the data to be analyzed. We used methPLIER to analyze a lung cancer dataset and confirmed that the data decomposition reflected sample characteristics for recurrence-free survival. Moreover, methPLIER can analyze data obtained via different preprocessing methods, thereby reducing distributional bias among datasets due to preprocessing. Furthermore, methPLIER can be employed for comparative analyses of methylation data obtained from different platforms, thereby reducing bias in data distribution due to platform differences. methPLIER is expected to facilitate cross-sectional DNA methylation data analysis and enhance DNA methylation data resources.
