The Impact of Development and Government Expenditure for Information and Communication Technology on Indonesian Economic Growth

Neli AGUSTINA,Setia PRAMANA 한국유통과학회 2019 Asian Journal of Business Environment (AJBE) Vol.9 No.4

Purpose - This research is aimed to investigate the impact of the Information and Communication Technology (hereinafter ICT) development index and ICT investment on Indonesian economic growth. Research design, data and methodology - The data used consist of ICT development index, government expenditure on ICT sector, and economic growth from 33 provinces in Indonesia from 2012 to 2015. Based on the Networked Readiness Index published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Indonesia was ranked 80th among 142 countries in 2012 and had climbed 64th in 2014. This indicates that the businesses in Indonesia have adopted ICTs to increase productivity and expand their activities. Panel data regression analysis is performed to reveal the change of the impact over time in each of the provinces. Result - The ICT development index and government expenditure for ICT have a positive effect on the economic growth of all provinces, although the impact is different in each of the provinces. There is a digital gap between the provinces, especially the large digital gap occurring with DKI Jakarta. The provinces of Eastern Indonesia such as NTT and Papua are still relatively slow in development of ICT. Conclusions - ICT development index and allocation of local government expenditure for ICT have significant effect on economic growth. ICT development index has a bigger role in increasing economic growth.

Ali Hadi RAFSANJANI,Neli AGUSTINA 한국유통과학회 2022 Asian Journal of Business Environment (AJBE) Vol.12 No.2

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the performance of local taxes in Indonesia through the estimation of tax capacity and tax effort, as well as classifying provinces based on the estimated value of tax capacity and tax effort. Research design, data and methodology: this study uses panel data of 34 provinces in Indonesia for the period of 2014-2018. The analytical method used in the tax capacity model is panel data regression to explain the factors that influence tax performance. Tax effort is estimated by the ratio of tax to tax capacity. Results: The results of the analysis show that gini ratio and regional expenditures have a significant positive effect on the tax ratio, while the share of GRDP in the manufacturing sector and HDI has a significant negative effect on the tax ratio. Based on the results, there are 19 provinces that have low tax capacity and 16 provinces that have low tax effort. Conclusions: The development of local tax performance tends to fluctuate with an average of 1.24 percent per year. Gini ratio and regional expenditure have a significant positive effect on the tax ratio, while the share of GRDP in the manufacturing sector and HDI have a significant negative effect on the tax ratio.

      • Export Performance Analysis of Indonesian Processed Seaweed to The Seven Main Destination Countries from 2010 to 2019

ASSHIDIQ, Isna Aissatussiri,AGUSTINA, Neli Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 Asian journal of business environment Vol.12 No.3

Purpose: The research aims to analyze the export performance of processed seaweed, its competitiveness, and determinants on seven main destination countries. Research design, data and methodology: The study uses data of seven main destination countries of Indonesian processed seaweed from 2010 to 2019. For competitiveness analysis, the study uses Revealed Comparative Advantage, Export Product Dynamics, and X-Model of Potential Export Product. Results: The study reveals that the export performance has decreased on all five countries except for Japan and USA. The X-Model analysis shows that the market classification has increased or been stable in every country except for Germany and France. GDP per capita of each destination country and competitiveness index have positive and significance effect while other factors have negative and significance effect. Conclusions: In 2019, Indonesia's processed seaweed market in Japan, United States, and France are on potential market, while Singapore and Italy are on optimistic market. In the future, Indonesia's processed seaweed export can be focused more on countries that have a good market potential. To improve the export volume, GDP per capita of destination country, and competitiveness index of Indonesian processed seaweed should be higher, while export price, economic distance, and real exchange rate should be lower.
