Recently, there has been an increase in domestic and foreign studies on high-tech functional textile goods. As energy saving became globally important issue, interest in materials used for heat-emitting clothing is also growing. Currently, there are two principles of heat release fiber. The first type utilizes moisture absorbing-heat release, thus heat occurs when vapor from the body contacts with the fabric. The second type utilizes light absorbing-heat release, so heat occurs when fabric absorbs solar light. But since there are no domestic and foreign standards to evaluate this exothermic performance, an autonomous experiment using a house method is conducted for evaluation. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate exothermic performance of light irradiation on fabric produced using light irradiation-exothermic yarn, using an infrared thermography camera. This research was funded by the Small and Medium Business Administration of Korea (S2090919).

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) and Langerhans cell sarcoma (LCS) are clonal proliferations of Langerhans-type cells. Unlike in LCH, the pathophysiology and clinical course of LCS are unclear due to its rarity. Here, we report the case of a 73-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with cutaneous LCH and pulmonary LCS at the same time. Pathological review of these 2 tumors revealed similar immunohistochemical findings. However, the tumor cells in LCS had more aggressive cytological features than those in LCH. Results of BRAF mutation analysis using real-time PCR were negative for both tumors. In whole-exome sequencing (WES), stop-gain mutations in TP53 gene were discovered only in LCS cells. The mechanism of development of LCS from various progenitor cells is currently unclear. According to the results of the WES study, changes in TP53 gene might have contributed to the malignant features of LCS.

3D printing technology is used in many industrial field much more than we can imagine, and it encourages development in industrial technology by being applied to various industries such as architecture, art, lighting, crafts, and fashion, taking prototype production for granted. Especially, figures, which indicate various types of dolls of people or animals designed to do various motions, are forming a mania by diversifying into art toys, fashion dolls, and other types to reflect different trends, starting with toys as exclusive properties of children. Moreover, they are becoming items to satisfy analog sensibility throughout the general aspects of modern society including design, advertisement, and fashion regardless of gender. Thus this study attempts to show the process of creating a figure by utilizing 3D printing technology and to evaluate the consumer preferences for the product.

Abstract

Objective

The guidelines for pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) recommend surgical resection of all main-duct (MD) and mixed-type IPMNs in surgically fit patients. We conducted this study to identify the rates of high-grade dysplasia (HGD) and invasive carcinoma according to the morphological features of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) in patients with MD and mixed IPMN.

Methods

We performed a retrospective study of 259 patients with histologically proven MD and mixed-type IPMNs who underwent surgery at six academic institutions.

Results

The rate of HGD and invasive carcinoma was 11.1% (24/216) in patients without enhancing mural nodules (MNs) and 69.8% (30/43) in patients with MNs. Multivariate analysis showed that MPD diameter of ≥10 mm [odds ratio (OR), 2.5; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.155–5.505; P = 0.02], diffuse MPD dilatation (OR, 3.2; 95% CI, 1.152–8.998; P = 0.02), and presence of enhancing MNs in MPD (OR, 9.6; 95% CI, 3.928–23.833, P < 0.0001) were significant predictors of HGD and invasive carcinoma. Of the 216 patients without enhancing MNs, 79 patients (36.6%) having both segmental MPD dilatation and MPD diameter of <10 mm showed significantly lower rates of HGD and invasive carcinoma (3/79, 3.8%) than patients having both diffuse MPD dilatation and MPD diameter ≥10 mm (9/36, 25%, P = 0.001).

Conclusions

MD and mixed-type IPMNs having segmental MPD dilatation with MPD dilation <10 mm and no enhancing MNs on imaging showed a significantly lower rate of HGD and invasive carcinoma, and watchful follow-up instead of immediate surgical resection might be possible in these patients.
