MORE ON MAXIMAL, MINIMAL OPEN AND CLOSED SETS

Mukharjee, Ajoy Korean Mathematical Society 2017 대한수학회논문집 Vol.32 No.1

In this paper, we introduce a notion of cleanly covered topological spaces along with two strong separation axioms. Some properties of cleanly covered topological spaces are obtained in term of maximal open sets including some similar properties of a topological space in term of maximal closed sets. Two strong separation axioms are also investigated in terms of minimal open and maximal closed sets.

      • Characteristics of sustainable concrete incorporating recycled coarse aggregates and colloidal nano-silica

        Mukharjee, Bibhuti Bhusan,Barai, Sudhirkumar V Techno-Press 2015 Advances in concrete construction Vol.3 No.3

The present study addresses about the development of sustainable concrete utilizing recycled coarse aggregates manufactured form waste concrete and colloidal Nano-Silica. Experimental investigations are carried out to determine compressive and tensile strength of concrete mixes designed with recycled coarse aggregates and different percentages of Nano-Silica. Moreover, water absorption, density and volume voids of concrete mixes are also examined to ascertain the influence of Nano-Silica on behavior of recycled aggregate concrete. The outcomes of the research depict that properties of concrete mixes are significantly affected with the introduction of recycled coarse aggregates in place of the natural coarse aggregates. However, the study reveals that the depletion of behavior of recycled aggregate concrete could be restored with the incorporation of little amount (3%) of Nano-Silica.

On Mean Open and Closed Sets

Mukharjee, Ajoy,Bagchi, Kallol Bhandhu Department of Mathematics 2016 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.56 No.4

In this paper, we introduce the notions of mean open and closed sets in topological spaces, and obtain some properties of such sets. We observe that proper paraopen and paraclosed sets are identical to mean open and closed sets respectively.

      • Performance assessment of nano-Silica incorporated recycled aggregate concrete

        Mukharjee, Bibhuti Bhusan,Barai, Sudhirkumar V Techno-Press 2019 Advances in concrete construction Vol.8 No.4

The present study targets to access the consequence of utilization of coarse aggregates retrieved from waste concrete as a substitution of coarse fraction of natural aggregates and silica nano-particles as partial substitution of cement using principles of factorial design. Furthermore, procedures of design of experiments are employed to examine the effect of use of recycled aggregates and nano-silica. In this investigation, compressive strength found after at 7, 28, 90 and 365 days, split and flexural tensile strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and rebound number and are chosen as responses, whereas the percentages of recycled coarse aggregates (RCA%) and nano-silica (NS(%)) are selected as factors. Analysis of Variance has been conducted on the experimental results for the selected responses with consideration the both factors, which indicates that RCA (%) and NS (%) have substantial impact on the various responses. However, the present analysis depicts that interaction between factors has considerable effect on the chosen parameters of concrete. Furthermore, validation experiments are carried to validate these models for compressive and tensile strength for 100% RCA and 1% NS. The results of comparative study indicates that that the error of the estimation determined using the relevant models are found to be small (±5%) in comparison with the analogous experimental results, which authenticates the calculated models.

ON MAXIMAL, MINIMAL OPEN AND CLOSED SETS

MUKHARJEE, AJOY Korean Mathematical Society 2015 대한수학회논문집 Vol.30 No.3

We obtain some conditions for disconnectedness of a topological space in terms of maximal and minimal open sets, and some similar results in terms of maximal and minimal closed sets along with interrelations between them. In particular, we show that if a space has a set which is both maximal and minimal open, then either this set is the only nontrivial open set in the space or the space is disconnected. We also obtain a result concerning a minimal open set on a subspace.

      • Nano-engineered concrete using recycled aggregates and nano-silica: Taguchi approach

        Prusty, Rajeswari,Mukharjee, Bibhuti B.,Barai, Sudhirkumar V. Techno-Press 2015 Advances in concrete construction Vol.3 No.4

This paper investigates the influence of various mix design parameters on the characteristics of concrete containing recycled coarse aggregates and Nano-Silica using Taguchi method. The present study adopts Water-cement ratio, Recycled Coarse Aggregate (%), Maximum cement content and Nano-Silica (%) as factors with each one having three different levels. Using the above mentioned control parameters with levels an Orthogonal Array (OA) matrix experiments of L9 (34) has selected and nine number of concrete mixes has been prepared. Compressive Strength, Split Tensile Strength, Flexural Tensile Strength, Modulus of Elasticity and Non-Destructive parameters are selected as responses. Experimental results are analyzed and the optimum level for each response is predicted. Analysis of 28 days CS depicts that NS (%) is the most significant factor among all factors. Analysis of the tensile strength results indicates that the effect of control factor W/C ratio is ranked one and then NS (%) is ranked two which suggests that W/C ratio and NS (%) have more influence as compared to other two factors. However, the factor that affects the modulus of elasticity most is found to be RCA (%). Finally, validation experiments have been carried out with the optimal mixture of concrete with Nano-Silica for the desired engineering properties of recycled aggregate concrete. Moreover, the comparative study of the predicted and experimental results concludes that errors between both experimental and predicted values are within the permissible limits. This present study highlights the application of Taguchi method as an efficient tool in determining the effects of constituent materials in mix proportioning of concrete.

      • Fresh and hardened properties of concrete incorporating ground granulated blast furnace slag-A review

Patra, Rakesh Kumar,Mukharjee, Bibhuti Bhusan Techno-Press 2016 Advances in concrete construction Vol.4 No.4

Several types of industrial byproducts are generated. With increased environmental awareness and its potential hazardous effects, the utilization of industrial byproducts in concrete has become an attractive alternative to their disposal. One such by-product is ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), which is a byproduct of the smelting process carried out in the iron and steel industry. The GGBS is very effective in the design and development of high-strength and high-performance concrete. This paper reviews the effect of GGBS on the workability, porosity, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength of concrete.

      • Properties of concrete incorporating granulated blast furnace slag as fine aggregate

Patra, Rakesh Kumar,Mukharjee, Bibhuti Bhusan Techno-Press 2017 Advances in concrete construction Vol.5 No.5

The present work investigates about the development of a novel construction material by utilizing Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBS), an industrial waste product, as substitution of natural fine aggregates. For this, experimental work has been carried out to determine the influence of GBS on the properties of concrete such as compressive strength (CS), modulus of elasticity, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), chloride penetration, water absorption (WA) volume of voids (VV) and density. Concrete mixes of water/cement (w/c) ratios 0.45 and 0.5, and incorporating 20%, 40% and 60% of GBS as partial replacement of natural fine aggregate (sand) are designed for this study. The results of the experimental investigation depict that CS of concrete mixes increases with the increasing percentages of GBS. Moreover, the decrease in chloride penetration, WA and VV, and improvement in the modulus of elasticity, UPV, density of concrete is reported with the increasing percentage of GBS in concrete.

      • Influence of granulated blast furnace slag as fine aggregate on properties of cement mortar

Patra, Rakesh Kumar,Mukharjee, Bibhuti Bhusan Techno-Press 2018 Advances in concrete construction Vol.6 No.6

The objective of present study is to investigate the effect of granulated blast furnace slag (GBS) as partial substitution of natural sand on behaviour of cement mortar. For this, the methods of factorial design with water cement (w/c) ratio and incorporation percentages of GBS as replacement of natural fine aggregate i.e., GBS(%) as factors are followed. The levels of factor w/c ratio are fixed at 0.4, 0.45, and 0.5 and the levels of factor GBS(%) are kept fixed as 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. The compressive strength (CS) of mortar after 3, 7, 14, 28, 56 and 90 days, and water absorption (WA) are chosen as responses of the study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of experimental results has been carried out and those are illustrated by ANOVA tables, main effect and interaction plots. The results of study depict that the selected factors have substantial influence on the strength and WA of mortar. However, the interaction of factors has no substantial impact on CS and WA of mixes.
