The authors had invented the unique wind turbine unit composed of the large-sized front wind rotor, the small-sized rear wind rotor and the peculiar generator with the inner and the outer rotational armatures. The rotational torques of both armatures/wind rotors are counter-balanced, while the rotational speeds and the directions are adjusted automatically in response to the wind conditions. The prototype unit is composed of the tandem wind rotors, whose front and rear diameters are 2 m and 1.33 m, and the double rotational armatures type synchronous generator. The unit was boarded on a pick-up type vehicle in the field test. The performance of the unit is significantly affected not only by the blade setting angles of both wind rotors, but also by the bulb load. The test results suggest that more improvement is necessary for the blade profiles as tandem wind rotors taking account of the flow interaction between both wind rotors.
Effect of Pd Addition on the Microstructure of Ti-30Nb Alloy

The effect of Pd addition on deformation mechanisms, phase transitions and twinning has been extensively investigated in as-cast β-type Ti-30Nb (wt%) alloy using electron backscattered diffraction and transmission electron microscopy techniques. The addition of Pd resulted in refinement of the metastable ω phase. The {112}<111>-type twinning was found to strongly depend on the size of the ω particles. No β phase twins were observed in the binary alloy with larger ω particles. In the ternary alloy with much finer ω particles, {332}<113> and abundant {112}<111>-type twins were detected. On the contrary, the volume fraction of stress-induced α" martensite in the binary alloy was higher than that in the ternary one. Based on the analysis of phase diagrams and Gibbs free energy calculations, such complex phase transition and twinning phenomena have been explained in terms of relative phase stability between the ω particles and the β matrix.

A 38-year-old female with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) initiated belimumab treat- ment. One month later, she presented with a reddish painful swelling on her right lower leg. She was treated with ceftriaxone and vancomycin. However, novel erythematous papules and indurated nodules appeared on both her lower legs. Skin biopsy revealed microabscess formation with mixed cell granuloma surrounded by inf lammatory cell infiltration within the dermis with subcutaneous fat tissue. A large number of acid-fast bacilli were observed with Ziehl–Neelsen staining. DNA sequencing of both the hsp65 and the 16S rRNA se- quences showed a 100% match with the corresponding region of Mycobacterium hae- mophilum . Mycobacterial culture revealed satellite growth enhancement on Middlebrook 7H11 agar plates around a paper strip containing hemin. She was treated with levof loxacin, rifabutin, and ethambutol. Within 13 months, her cutaneous lesions improved markedly without any side effects. The B cell-targeted biologic belimumab, a fully humanized IgG1γ monoclonal antibody that inactivates B lymphocyte stimulator, has been considered to be beneficial for active SLE. However, this therapy could increase the risk for the development of biologic therapy-associated mycobacterial infections, both tuberculosis and nontubercu- lous mycobacteria infections.
