THE RADIO PROPERTIES OF RADIO-LOUD NARROW-LINE SEYFERT 1 GALAXIES ON PARSEC SCALES

        Gu, Minfeng,Chen, Yongjun,Komossa, S.,Yuan, Weimin,Shen, Zhiqiang,Wajima, Kiyoaki,Zhou, Hongyan,Zensus, J. A. IOP Publishing 2015 The Astrophysical journal Supplement series Vol.221 No.1

We present the detection of the compact radio structures of 14 radio-loud narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies from Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations at 5 GHz performed in 2013. While 50% of the sources of our sample show a compact core only, the remaining 50% exhibit a core-jet structure. The measured brightness temperatures of the cores range from 10(8.4) to 10(11.4) K with a median value of 10(10.1) K, indicating that the radio emission is from non-thermal jets, and that, likely, most sources are not strongly beamed, thus implying a low jet speed in these radio-loud NLS1 galaxies. In combination with archival data taken at multiple frequencies, we find that seven sources show flat or even inverted radio spectra, while steep spectra are revealed in the remaining seven objects. Although all of these sources are very radio-loud with R > 100, their jet properties are diverse in terms of their milliarcsecond (mas) scale (parsec scale) morphology and their overall radio spectral shape. The evidence for slow jet speeds (i.e., less relativistic jets), in combination with the low kinetic/radio power, may offer an explanation for the compact VLBA radio structure in most sources. The mildly relativistic jets in these high accretion rate systems are consistent with a scenario where jets are accelerated from the hot corona above the disk by the magnetic field and the radiation force of the accretion disk. Alternatively, a low jet bulk velocity can be explained by low spin in the Blandford-Znajek mechanism.

Identification and Characterization of Bombyx mori LDH Gene through Bioinformatics Approaches

Zhu, Minfeng,Chen, Keping,Yao, Qin Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2007 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.15 No.2

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is a ubiquitous enzyme that plays a significant role in the clinical diagnosis of pathologic processes. Discovery of the LDH (BmLDH) gene in B. mori may shed light on its role in the biology of Lepidoptera species, and afford further understanding of the function of the enzyme. In this study, we used the bioinformatics tools to identify LDH gene in B. mori. Sequence analysis showed that BmLDH cDNA contains a 996 bp open reading frame, encoding 331 AA proteins, with seven introns. Compared with hHLDH (human heart LDH), BmLDH contained the same key active sites. Domain search and protein fold recognition analyses provide compelling evidences that the deduced protein is a LDH. Using the computer program MEGA3, we conducted a search for homologs of BmLDH among many eukaryotic species and confirmed that the BmLDH was conserved in all organisms investigated. This gene has been registered in GenBank under the accession number EU000385.

Resveratrol suppresses the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in PC-3 cells by down-regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway

        Zhi Wang,Longxiang Wu,Shiyu Tong,Xiheng Hu,Xiongbing Zu,Yuan Li,Wei He,Longfei Liu,Minfeng Chen,Lin Qi 한국통합생물학회 2016 Animal cells and systems Vol.20 No.2

Resveratrol possesses a wide spectrum of pharmacological properties and has been an ideal alternative drug for the treatment of different cancers, including prostate cancer. However, the mechanisms by which resveratrol inhibits the growth of prostate cancer are still not fully elucidated. To understand the effect of resveratrol on the apoptosis and the epithelial-tomesenchymal transition (EMT) of prostate cancer as well as its related mechanism, we investigated the potential use of resveratrol in PC-3 prostate cancer cells in vitro using real-time PCR, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, Western blotting, etc. Resveratrol suppresses the PC-3 prostate cancer cell growth and induces apoptosis. Resveratrol also influences the expression of EMT-related proteins (increased E-cadherin and decreased Vimentin expression). Finally, resveratrol also suppressed Akt phosphorylation in PC-3 cells. This study indicates that resveratrol may be a potential anti-cancer treatment for prostate cancer; moreover, it provides new evidence that resveratrol suppresses prostate cancer growth and metastasis.
