      • Top-executives Compensation : The Role of Corporate Ownership Structure in Japan

Mohammed Mehadi Masud Mazumder 한국유통과학회 2017 한국유통과학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.-

This paper explores the impact of corporate control, measured by ownership structure, on top-executives’ compensation in Japan. According to agency theory, the pay-performance link is expected to be affected by the firm’s ownership structure. Using a sample of 4,411 firm-year observations (401 firms for the 11-years period from 2001 to 2011) for Japanese non-financial firms publicly traded on the first section and second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE), this study demonstrates that institutional ownership (both financial and corporate) is negatively related to the level of executives’ compensation. Such finding is in line with efficient monitoring hypothesis which claims that the presence of institutional shareholders provides direct monitoring over managers, limits managerial self-dealing and curves the increase in CEO pay. On the other hand, the results also show that managerial ownership is positively related to their compensation which supports managerial power theory hypothesis, i.e. management-controlled firms are more likely to extract more compensation from the business than other firms. Overall, this study confirms that corporate control has significant impact on cash compensation paid to Japanese top-executives after controlling the conventional pay-performance relationship.

      • Research on Corporate Risk Reporting: Current Trends and Future Avenues

Mohammed Mehadi Masud Mazumder,Dewan Mahboob Hossain 한국유통과학회 2018 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.5 No.1

These days, corporate risk management has become a major concern in the corporate world. Companies in the global environment are exposed to diverse kinds of risks that are affecting the decisions of investors and other stakeholders. Therefore, companies are expected to not only identify and manage risks but also voluntarily report the same to the stakeholders. Increasingly, standard setters and regulators are requiring firms to disclose such information. On the contrary, there also exists a perception that risk reporting can create a negative impression among the stakeholders about the future of the company. In line with such growing dilemma for risk disclosures, the issue of corporate risk reporting (CRR) has been receiving immense emphasis from the accounting academicians. The main objective of this article is to conduct a comprehensive literature review on corporate risk disclosures. In order to fulfill this objective, at first, a summary of the relevant available literature is presented to identify the current regulations on risk reporting, existing trends of CRR research and theories applied in research. Then, through analysis, several research avenues are identified. It is expected that if these dimensions are explored by the future researchers, a better and broader understanding of the risk reporting practices can be achieved.

OMICS approaches in cardiovascular diseases: a mini review

Sohag, Md. Mehadi Hasan,Raqib, Saleh Muhammed,Akhmad, Syaefudin Ali Korea Genome Organization 2021 Genomics & informatics Vol.19 No.2

Ranked in the topmost position among the deadliest diseases in the world, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a global burden with alterations in heart and blood vessels. Early diagnostics and prognostics could be the best possible solution in CVD management. OMICS (genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics) approaches could be able to tackle the challenges against CVDs. Genome-wide association studies along with next-generation sequencing with various computational biology tools could lead a new sight in early detection and possible therapeutics of CVDs. Human cardiac proteins are also characterized by mass spectrophotometry which could open the scope of proteomics approaches in CVD. Besides this, regulation of gene expression by transcriptomics approaches exhibits a new insight while metabolomics is the endpoint on the downstream of multi-omics approaches to confront CVDs from the early onset. Although a lot of challenges needed to overcome in CVD management, OMICS approaches are certainly a new prospect.

Impact of the endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria on crop development: prospects for advancing climate-smart agriculture

Hossain Amzad,Hassan Zahid,Sohag Mehadi Hasan,Khan Mursalin 한국작물학회 2023 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.26 No.4

The exploration of knowledge for crop improvement has been a continuous practice to address the food insecurity of the growing human population, and the necessity of the new knowledge is crucial due to decreasing arable land and climate change. The proper use of technology and knowledgebase has the potential to narrow down poverty in the world, more specifcally in developing countries. This review aimed to assess the role of the endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria as a potential crop improvement tool in climate-smart agriculture. Endophytic and rhizospheric were found to be efcient alternatives to the chemical-based solution to develop crops. Endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria have improved many agronomic traits such as yield, quality, disease resistance, and stress tolerance. Besides, we discussed the recent development of the feld-level application of endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria. These bacteria have potential since they are efcient in developing crops signifcantly without afecting the environment in a deleterious way. In terms of biodiversity, natural resources such as endophytic and rhizospheric bacterial application to crops are unlikely to afect the non-target species. Hence, endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria application in crop improvement is applicable for agricultural development, thereby ensuring food sustainability without afecting the environment, eventually leading us to climatesmart agriculture. This review aims to recapitulate the current knowledge and prospects of endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria to achieve the goal of climate-smart agriculture

Improvement in DRX Power Saving for Non-real-time Traffic in LTE

        Mohammad Tawhid Kawser,Mohammad Rakibul Islam,Khondoker Ziaul Islam,Mohammad Atiqul Islam,Mohammad Mehadi Hassan,Zobayer Ahmed,Rafid Hasan 한국전자통신연구원 2016 ETRI Journal Vol.38 No.4

A discontinuous reception (DRX) operation is included in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) system to achieve power saving and prolonged battery life of the user equipment. An improvement in DRX power saving usually leads to a potential increase in the packet delay. An optimum DRX configuration depends on the current traffic, which is not easy to estimate accurately, particularly for non-real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a novel way to vary the DRX cycle length, avoiding a continuous estimation of the data traffic when only non-real-time applications are running with no active real-time applications. Because a small delay in non-real-time traffic does not essentially impact the user’s experience adversely, we deliberately allow a limited amount of delay in our proposal to attain a significant improvement in power saving. Our proposal also improves the delay in service resumption after a long period of inactivity. We use a stochastic analysis assuming an M/G/1 queue to validate this improvement.

Students’ Knowledge, Awareness, and Pro-Environmental Behavior in Urban to Design Climate Change Book Serials

        Diana Vivanti Sigit,Eka Putri Azrai,Ade Suryanda,Melisa Epriani,Ilmi Zajuli Ichsan,Md. Mehadi Rahman,Danilo V. Rogayan Jr 인간식물환경학회 2021 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.24 No.5

Background and objective: Problems currently occurred in the environment are caused by a lack of environmental awareness of the community. Biology students learn the environment in ecological learning. Students must explore environmental knowledge (EK) and are expected to have high environmental awareness (EA) and then apply their knowledge in daily life with pro-environmental behavior (PEB). There is a need for designing climate-change book serials for university students (CCBS-US) towards contextualized learning. This study aimed to determine the relationship between EK and EA and the PEB of biology students as a baseline for designing CCBS-US. Methods: The study used a quantitative descriptive method with a correlational design. Total 136 biology students from a state university in Jakarta, Indonesia served as samples of the study. Results: Research results revealed a positive relationship between EK and PEB of biology students. There was a positive relationship between EA and PEB of biology students and between EK and EA and PEB of Biology students. Moreover, 77% of students reported their EK is very high, 55% of students reported their EA is medium, and 46% of students reported their PEB is medium. Ecological learning has a vital role in shaping the EK, EA, and PEB, thus CCBS-US needs to be developed. Conclusion: The study concluded that there was a relationship between EK, EA, and PEB. The study recommends the development of CCBS-US based on the survey results.
