      • Study on the Medical Quality Improvement Status and Influencing Factors of Staff Members in the Municipal Hospitals

        The study was to identify the quality improvement status and influencing factors of municipal hospitals in seoul. The participants were 338 staff members who is working in municipal hospitals. Data analysis was done with PASW statistics 18.0 program using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson’s correlation. The mean for Promoting of quality improvement status 3.35, Influence factors were 3.32. Quality improvement status showed positive with position (F=3.01, p=.030), Career (F=2.864, p=.037). Influencing factors of QI activities (t=4.932, p<0.001) and Structural factors (t=-2.268 p=.024) of quality improvement. The findings of this study indicate a need to Q I educational program, attention Q I of president and sharing QI educational program. To support technical program and education of staff members in the municipal hospitals.

      • Subjectivity Death with Dignity Recognized of Nursing Students

        This study was to identify the subjective attitudes on “death with dignity” perceived by nursing students, and to describe the characteristics of each category. Twenty-nine nursing students at H University located in Chungcheongnam Province, Korea were asked to classify 70 statements on “death with dignity.” The collected data was analyzed utilizing QUANL PC program, SPSSWIN 21.0 program. The study concluded that there were 6 types of attitudes from the nursing students towards “death with dignity.” The types of attitudes towards “death with dignity” were “recognizing value in death with dignity,” “inevitability of choosing death with dignity,” “societal regulation of death with dignity,” “death with dignity electivity,” “death with dignity criteria identification” and “preparing for death with dignity.” The results of this study will provide assistance for organizing a “death with dignity” education program for nursing students and establish a value system towards “death with dignity” through categorization of the nursing student attitudes. The findings will also play a crucial role in identifying the attitudes of nurses towards “death with dignity” after students become nurses and start working in various departments, possibly facing patients considering or being considered for end of life choices, including “death with dignity. Lastly this study meaning of death with dignity would be to the development well dying or death with dignity training program nursing student.

      • A Study on New Nurse Types that Nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Service Hospitals want to have as Part of their Team

        The aim of this study was to compile a subjective categorization of newly licensed nurses with whom comprehensive nursing service hospital nurses want to work and to describe the characteristics of each type as well as to identify categories of the new nurses. The study utilized Q Methodology with 60 nurses of more than one year experience at public hospitals located in Seoul as the nurses were asked to classify 70 statements on perception of new nurses. The collected data was analyzed through QUANAL PC program. In this study, the types of new nurses with whom experienced nurses wanted to work with were categorized into 6 types: “Punctual and Responsible,” “Warm and Empathetic,” “Integrated and Open,” “Prudent Learner,” “Realistic Ideal,” “Mission and Compassion.” By defining the ideal image of a new nurse through categorization of new nurses with whom experienced nurses want to work, this study has provided the baseline data for better human resources management and reducing work stress for new nurses. In addition, these set of findings may provide for more effective training programs for new nurses. This study also established the theoretical framework for a nurse manager’s arrangement of arbitration in helping new nurses adjust.

        Subjectivity on Patient Safety Recognized by Inpatients

        The purpose of this study is to identify the subjectivity of patient and describe the characteristics of each type to understand the categorization of types on patient safety. Q methodology was applied to the study. A total of 40 patients admitted to the S hospital in Seoul were asked to categorize 33 statements on patient safety. The collected data was analyzed using QUANL PC Program. After analysis, patient safety as perceived by the admitted patient was categorized into 6 types. The types were as follows: Type 1 'Those who note adequate patient safety', Type 2 'Those who consider preventive safety to be lacking' Type 3 'Those who see the evaluation criteria to be met', Type 4 'Those who see the facility safety to be lacking', Type 5 'Those who find the patient and facility safety to be adequate', Type 6 'Those who see patient support to be lacking'. The study provides a basic set of data for developing mediation measures needed to identify the direction in which patient safety should be promoted.
