Lithographically-featured photonic microparticles of colloidal assemblies

<P>We have described a new and promising strategy for the fabrication of composite and porous photonic crystal microparticles that combines the self-assembly of colloidal particles with photolithography techniques. We fabricated silica/SU-8 composite microparticles with photonic bandgaps <I>via</I> four steps: (1) deposition of the silica colloidal crystals on the photoresist, (2) embedding of the colloidal crystals in the photoresist, (3) UV exposure through a photomask and subsequent development, and (4) release of the microparticles from the substrate. Embedding was performed above the glass transition temperature (<I>T</I><SUB>g</SUB>) of uncrosslinked SU-8. At such temperatures, capillary forces on the silica particles facilitate the migration of colloidal crystals in the SU-8 matrix. Particle migration ceased when the top colloidal crystal layer was trapped at the interface between air and SU-8. In addition, we also prepared porous microparticles with an inverse opaline structure by dissolving the embedded silica particles from the composite structures. The porous microparticles showed enhanced reflectivity at the bandgap position due to the large refractive index contrast. The bandgap position of the microparticles was controlled by the size of the silica particles, which determined the lattice constant. Bilayered composite and porous microparticles with two distinct photonic bandgaps were also prepared by sequential deposition of colloidal crystals composed of two differently sized silica particles.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>A new and promising fabrication strategy of photonic crystal microparticles was demonstrated by combining colloidal self-assembly with photolithography. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c0cp00134a'> </P>
Arabinoxylane과 PSP의 면역세포 활성화 효과, 항암 효과 및 알레르기 억제 효과 검증

The objective of the current study was to determine the effects of arabinoxylane and PSP on the immune cell functions. Arabinoxylane and PSP directly induced the proliferation of spleen cells in a dose-dependent manner. Stimulation of spleen cells with arabinoxylane and PSP resulted in increased IFN-γ synthesis. Especially, PSP induced IL-2, IL-4 and IL-10 production. Both arabinoxylane and PSP increased PFC(10∼15%) and RFC(10∼30%) formation. Arabinoxylane was not induced the proliferation of T cells, but PSP directly induced the proliferation of T cells in a high dose. Arabinoxylane and PSP increased the proliferation of B cells isolated from spleen cells. Stimulation of macrophage with PSP(20%) and arabinoxylane(22%) resulted in increased phagocytic effects. When arabinoxylane and PSP were used in macrophage stimulation, there was a marked induction of NO synthesis in a dose-dependent. Stimulation of macrophage with arabinoxylane and PSP resulted in increased TNF-α and IL-6 synthesis. Expecially, PSP also induced IL-1β production. When arabinoxylane and PSP were used in macrophage stimulation, there was induction of MHC class Ⅱ expression. The cytotoxic effect was revealed at 1 day in the 7 strains, and at 5 days in the 9 strains of cancer cell lines treated with arabinoxylane and PSP. There are some cancer cell lines treated with arabinoxylane and PSP was inhibited S and G2/M stage, but other cancer cell lines was not inhibited in the cell cycles. PSP feeding for 2 weeks significantly increased the cytotoxic effect of natural killer cells. PSP feeding for 2 weeks also significantly increased the cytotoxic effect of cytotoxic T cells. Both arabinoxylane and PSP induced the supressive effect in the mice with sarcoma-180 cell injected intracutaneously. When the mice injected intraperitoneal cavity with sarcoma 180 cells, survival ratio was increased in the mice fed on arabinoxylane and PSP. There was no difference in the ratio and kind of immune cells in the mice fed on arabinoxylane and PSP for 2 weeks. The ratio of PCA was slightly decreased in the mice fed on PSP, especially fed on arabinoxylane than in the control mice. The concentrations of blood histamine was slightly decreased in the mice fed on arabinoxylane and PSP. These results suggest that the capacity of arabinoxylane and PSP seem to act as a potent immunomodulator causing augmentation of immune cell activity, and with the absence of notable side-effects, arabinoxylane and PSP could be used as a biological response modifier having possible therapeutic effects against immunological disorders.
A new mid-late maturing rice variety「Subo」with a good grain quality and for direct seeding

‘Subo’ is a new japonica rice variety developed by a cross breeding between HR21124-B-59 and HR19567-B-70-3 having a good Phenotype with a multi-resistance and high yield elite line. The new variety developed for direct seeding by the rice breeding team in Rice Breeding and Cultivation Research Division, Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, NICS, RDA in 2012. The heading date of this variety is August 13 and earlier than that of check variety, Nampyeongbyeo, by two days. ‘Subo’ has 72cm of culm length and 104 spikelets per panicle in direct seeding cultivation. This variety showed resistance to bacterial leaf blight and rice stripe virus and have germinating ability in sumerged soil conditions. The milled rice of this variety exhibits translucent and very clear non-glutinous endosperm. ‘Subo’ has much better palatability of cooked rice than that of Nampyeongbyeo. The whole grain rate of milled rice are 86.9% and milled rice recovery of are 74.6%. The yield of ‘Subo’ in direct seeding cultivation is 5.55MT/ha in milled rice. ‘Subo’ could be adaptable to the southern part plain area of Pyeongtaek and southwestern in Korea.
Optimization of retrofit period for control system in thermal power plants

There are thermal power plants constructed in South Korea in 1990s. Usually it is estimated 25-30 years as economic life. On contrary, because the control systems for thermal power plants consist of high-technology electronic components, the economic life is estimated 10-30 years. The large variation is based on operation environment. According bath-tub curve, the faults increases during the beginning of operation after construction completion. and the end of system life. It is effective to retrofit existing system before increase of faults. By the way, it is effective to shorten the period of retrofit of existed system. But, the curtailment of the retrofit construction period causes unit trip. As for this point, it is necessary of optimization of construction period and procedures without unit trips or fault.

It is effective to retrofit existing system at half of economic life, and to shorten the period of retrofit of existing system. But, the curtailment of the retrofit construction period causes unit trip. As for this point, it is necessary of optimization of construction period and procedures without unit trips or faults.

Generation cooperations have focused on active power directly related to economic value. So, utility cooperation have taken expense to stabilize power system, although generator has responded quickly with variation of power system voltage and is controlled at real time. As a reactive power source, it is necessary for generator's capabilities to be verified. But domestic generators scarcely have been tested and operated to reactive power capability. In case of power system fault, operators would not quickly take a follow-up actions about reactive power disturbance. Therefore generator reactive power capability verification strategy must be developed, several generators is tested as examples since 2004. This paper is extracted from the test results.

The excitation system for diesel generator consists of double redundancy module and has been operating since 2008. Recently, the system was tripped by reason of failure of changeover of ther controller. By the way, it is very difficult to checkout the trip cause, because the checkout tool of software program was not existed. The journey is described to checkout the reason of failure of changeover.

This project is aim to retrofit nuclear power plants, also improves the reliance, safety, faculty of nuclear generator excitation system.
