This study develops a part classification and coding system by GT technique for Dong-do Electric Ind Co., LTD.. GT is a manufacturing philosophy in which similar parts are identified and grouped together to take advantage of their similarities in manufacturing and design. The system consists of three modules : database module, code generation module, information retrieval module. The developed system is expected to permit the quick retrieval of part information, the lead time reduction, the process simplification, etc..

The productivity in an organization is decided majorly by the two major factors, technical factor and human factor. The human factor is influenced by the characteristics of groups in the organization. This paper discusses how a group affect the productivity of an organization, and how individuals and group are related in terms of productivity. It also compares the quality levels by individuals and by a group in decision making. The relationship between group size and organization productivity and the decision patterns under risk are analyzed. Finally, it discusses how two factors(technical factor and human factor) can make a contribution to the productivity in an organization.

This study develops an EIS(Executives Information System) for a lighting system manufacturer. It systemizes the process in order to upgrade the efficiency of the company. The upgraded efficiency enables to the top-managers to be able to make decisions at the right time. The management information is stored at the database and essential information is supplied to the top-managers. The developed system is supposed to be linked to other information systems for the integrated information system.

The magnitudes of sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies at 13 coastal stations along the Korean peninsula in the summer and winter for the past 29years (1969-1997) are more larger than those in the spring and autumn. The periods of positive SST anomalies (negative SST anomalies) longer than 1℃ were 75(74.5) months in the eastern coast of Korea, 47.8(51.6) months in the southern coast of Korea and 69.5(69.8) months in the western coast of Korea during the past 348 months (1969-1997). The predominant periods of the low-pass filtered monthly SST anomalies are 3 years or 13 months, even another predominant period is 24 months. The spatial variation of SST anomalies were confined by regional seas of the Korean peninsula, such as the East Sea, the South Sea and the West Sea itself.

A two-dimensional warranty policy is characterized by a region in a two-dimensional plane with one axis representing time or age and the other representing item usage, such as the age and mileage of an automobile. This paper proposes a new two-attributes warranty policy that the failed product is free-replaced by producer in the replacement and minimally free-repaired by producer in the repair regions. We obtain expressions for the expected warranty costs under some assumptions about usage and failure and illustrate through numerical examples.
A Life Cycle Cost Comparison of Low-pressure Sodium Lamp and Fluorescent Lamp for Tunnel Lighting

The number of tunnel has fast increased with the rapid expansion of highway network. Tunnel should be designed to provide for drivers both safety and pleasant driving conditions. In this perspective, the design for tunnel lightning is very important in order to provide its safety, pleasantness, and cost-efficiency of maintenance, all of which should be considered and analyzed for a better tunnel lighting. This paper attempts to compare the low-pressure sodium lamp, which have usually been used for tunnel lighting, with the fluorescent lamp, which we consider as an alternative for the former. In an effort to determine the number of lamps to meet the required illuminance in the tunnel, this research employs a simulation technique which would allow us to conjecture, with the aid of basic model, the life cycle cost for illumination per each tunnel. This analysis is expected to provide a basic method and related information for tunnel development and design.

<P>Although previous studies have shown that mollugin, a bioactive phytochemical isolated from <I>Rubia cordifolia</I> L. (Rubiaceae), exhibits antitumor effects, its biological activity in oral cancer has not been reported. We thus investigated the effects and putative mechanism of apoptosis induced by mollugin in human oral squamous cell carcinoma cells (OSCCs). Results show that mollugin induces cell death in a dose-dependent manner in primary and metastatic OSCCs. Mollugin-induced cell death involved apoptosis, characterized by the appearance of nuclear shrinkage, flow cytometric analysis of sub-G<SUB>1</SUB> phase arrest, and annexin V-FITC and propidium iodide staining. Western blot analysis and RT-PCR revealed that mollugin suppressed activation of NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B and NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B-dependent gene products involved in antiapoptosis (Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl), invasion (MMP-9 and ICAM-1), and angiogenesis (FGF-2 and VEGF). Furthermore, mollugin induced the activation of p38, ERK, and JNK and the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and nuclear factor E2–related factor 2 (Nrf2). Mollugin-induced growth inhibition and apoptosis of HO-1 were reversed by an HO-1 inhibitor and Nrf2 siRNA. Collectively, this is the first report to demonstrate the effectiveness of mollugin as a candidate for a chemotherapeutic agent in OSCCs via the upregulation of the HO-1 and Nrf2 pathways and the downregulation of NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B.</P>
