( Dilek Kusaslan ),( Huseyin Avni Sahin ),( Gulnihal Guvendi ),( Zuhal Cakmak ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Infection with Brucella is a common problem in Eastern region of Turkey. For this reason the aim of study was to determine the Brucellosis related knowledge and practices among animal breeding people. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study was performed, between April and June 2014. The data were gathered by using a structured questionnaire that was filled during face to face interview to determine the knowledge and practices related to brucellosis. Data were evaluated by using SPSS computer software version 21. Results: All the people dealing with animals were included in this descriptive study. Of the 66 participants 53 (80. 3%) were women 13 (19. 7%) were men. 31 (%47) of the respondents were not able to read and write. Even though 65 (98. 5%) of the respondents had previous knowledge of brucellosis, 12 (18. 8%) of them knew the infection route properly and only 5 (7. 6%) of them were previously informed about brucellosis. 27 (40. 9%) of the respondents and 48 (72. 7%) of the respondent`s family members were infected with Brucella previously. 63 of the (95. 5%) respondents were making fresh cheese from raw milk and none of them were wearing gloves while milking, 16 of them were wearing gloves while handling animals. Information sources regarding the disease was; 28 health professionals, 27 neighbours, 23 relatives, 1 religious leader, none of them were teachers or veterinarians. The average time in the job was 21, 5 years among respondents. Conclusions: Brucellosis is a growing public health concern in developing countries like Turkey and is not a well-known disease among animal breeding people in Van region. So Brucella infection is still a public health problem in the region. In order to prevent and eradicate the disease, generalized education programs particularly aiming to prevent the disease spread are necessary.

      • Poster Session:PS 0208 ; Family Medicine : Marital Satisfaction Levels of Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Couples

        ( Huseyin Avni Sahin ),( Gulnihal Guvendi ),( Dilek Kusaslan ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Family dynamics are increasingly recognized as affecting factor of management of Diabetes Mellitus (DM): however, little research has been done until recently. The aim of this study is to compare the marital satisfaction levels of couples with Diabetes and those without the disease in Eastern Turkey. Methods: This was a cross sectional study conducted among couples during June 2014 at a major tertiary hospital in Van, Turkey. Couples previously diagnosed as Diabetes Mellitus consisted the Diabetic Group and couples without Diabetes Mellitus and any other chronical disease consisted the Non Diabetic Group. Randomly selected 326 respondents were interviewed using the Turkish version of the Marital Satisfaction Scale to assess the satisfaction levels. Data was analyzed using SPSS computer software version 21 and the independent sample t-tests were the key statistical test. Results: The mean age was 53.7 years among Diabetic Group (N=109) and 40.8 among Non-Diabetic group (N=217) (p=0001). The mean Body Mass Index was 31.6 among Diabetic Group and 28.5 among Non-Diabetic group (p=0001). The mean Diastolic Blood Pressure was 84.7 mm Hg among Diabetic Group and 77.3 mm Hg among Non-Diabetic group (p=0.0001). The mean number of children was 5.3 among Diabetic Group and 4.1 among Non-Diabetic group (p=0.0001). The mean Marital Satisfaction Score was 107.3 (male=112.2, female=102.8) among Diabetic Group and 99.2 (male=109.4, female=93.5) among Non-Diabetic group (p=0.004). Conclusions: Diabetes is of growing public health concern in developing countries like Turkey. Marital stasifaction levels of Diabetic couples should be tested in order to identify and implement appropriate interventions. As Marital Satisfaction levels of Non-Diabetic women are lower more care should be given by the physicians to support Non-Diabetic women.

      • Slide Session : OS-ONC-07 ; Oncology : Violence Among Cancer Patients in Eastern Turkey

( Hanim Guler Sahin ),( Gulnihal Guvendi ),( Huseyin Avni Sahin ),( Dilek Kusaslan ),( Erkan Dogan ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Health-care providers generally remain unaware of violence In Turkey and there are limited numbers of studies focuses on violence and there is no data regarding violence among cancer patients in Eastern Turkey. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of violence and to investigate its related factors in Eastern Turkey. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed in medical school of Yuzuncu Yil University, in Turkey. All patients who attended the medical oncology clinics were included in the study. The patients were interviewed face to face by a physician in complete privacy. Data were evaluated by using SPSS computer software version 21. Results: Between May and June 2014, all cancer patients attending the major tertiary hospital were included in this descriptive study. Of the 100 participants 61 (61%) were women 39 (39%) were men. 61 (%61) of the respondents were not able to read and write. 62 patients (62 %) were aware of his/her disease and 59 (96.7 %) of them had learned the disease from a physician. Main supporters were the daughters/son (41%) and couples (38%) during the illness. Although 16% were threatened to be abandon, 79% were afraid of being abandon. 45% of the patients thought that they were neglected. Only female patients stated physical violence and before the illness rate was 18% (100% by the male partner) and it decreased to 8% (87.5% by the partner and 12.5 % by the son) after the illness. Conclusions: Even though violence rate among cancer patients decreased during the illness period it is still a serious public health problem. Health-care providers should increase their awareness to protect the cancer patients from violence. Education and improvements in economic autonomy and society`s attitudes may also reduce violence towards cancer patients.

Evaluation of prophylactic and therapeutic effects of ruscogenin on acute radiation proctitis

        Erkan Yavuz,Onur Olgac Karagulle,Gulcin Ercan,Atilla Celik,Hakan Yigitbas,Busra Yaprak Bayrak,Rumeysa Tartar,Ramazan Kusaslan,Yuksel Altine,Osman Bilgin Gulcicek 대한외과학회 2018 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.94 No.4

Purpose: Radiation proctitis (RP) is inflammation and damage to the rectum, manifested secondary to ionizing radiation utilized for treatment. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory therapeutical and protective effects of ruscogenin in a model of acute RP. Methods: Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 4 groups (n = 8) as sham, control, treatment, and prophylaxis groups. Prophylaxis group and treatment group were dosed ruscogenin by oral gavage for 14 days pre- and postradiation. At the end of the 28th day, all subjects were sacrificed. Results: Histopathological analysis showed a significant increase in cryptitis abscess, cryptitis and reactive atypia, and depth of lymphocytic infiltration of the control group, compared to the other groups (P < 0.05), while treatment and prophylaxis groups showed significant decreases (P < 0.05). Immunohistochemical analysis indicated that immunoreactivity were significantly higher in control group (P < 0.05, P < 0.001, and P < 0.01, respectively), but vice versa for treatment and prophylaxis groups. There was not any significant difference for fibroblast growth factor 2 immunoreactivity. The epithelium of control rectums indicated an increase in TNF-α immunoreactivity while other groups had significant decrease (P < 0.01). Electron microscopical findings were parallel to light microscopy. Conclusion: In this study, ruscogenin was observed to be effective on prophylaxis or treatment of acute RP. Although there are various reports on the treatment of the rectum damaged by acute RP in the literature, this could be the first study since there is no research indicating the ultrastructural effect of ruscogenin.

Examination of protective and therapeutic effects of ruscogenin on cerulein-induced experimental acute pancreatitis in rats

        Gulcin Ercan,Rumeysa İlbar Tartar,Ali Solmaz,Osman Bilgin Gulcicek,Onur Olgac Karagulle,Serhat Meric,Huseyin Cayoren,Ramazan Kusaslan,Ahu Kemik,Damla Gokceoglu Kayali,Sule Cetinel,Atilla Celik 대한외과학회 2019 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.97 No.6

Purpose: To determine the potential protective and therapeutic effects and action mechanism of ruscogenin on ceruleininduced acute pancreatitis (AP) model in rats. Methods: Overall, 32 rats were attenuated to the sham (2-mL/kg/day isotonic solution for 4 weeks), control (20-μg/kg cerulein-induced AP for 12 hours), prophylaxis groups (cerulein-induced AP following 3-mL/kg/day ruscogenin for 4 weeks) and treatment (3-mL/kg/day ruscogenin following cerulein-induced AP for 12 hours). Blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis of nitric oxide synthase 1 (NOS1/neuronal NOS), malondialdehyde (MDA) and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1). After sacrification, pancreas tissues were collected and prepared for light microscopic (hematoxylin and eosin), immunohistochemical (nuclear factor kappa B) and biochemical analysis (tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-α], interleukin-6 and 1β [IL-6 and IL-1β], CRP, high-sensitivity CRP [hs-CRP] amylase, lipase, and ICAM-1). Ultrastructural analysis was performed by transmission electron microscopy. Results: The protective and therapeutic actions of ruscogenin were accomplished by improvements in histopathology, by decreasing blood cytokine levels of CRP, hs-CRP levels, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, ICAM-1, by reducing the pancreatic enzymes amylase and lipase in blood, and by suppressing the expression of nuclear factor kappa B, ICAM-1, and NOS-1, but not MDA in pancreatic tissues. Ruscogenin also improved cerulein-induced ultrastructural degenerations in endocrine and exocrine cells, especially in treatment group. Conclusion: The present findings have demonstrated the beneficial protective and therapeutical effects of ruscogenin, nominating it as a highly promising supplementary agent to be considered in the treatment of AP, and even as a protective agent against the damages induced by disease
