Use of sugammadex in Rett syndrome: A case report

Rett syndrome (RS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by loss of cognitive, motor, and social skills, epilepsy, autistic behavior, abnormal airway patterns, gastroesophageal reflux, nutritional problems, and severe scoliosis. Although girls with RS show normal or near-normal growth until 6-8 months, they lose their skills after that. The anesthetic management of these patients requires care because of all these clinical features. Especially in the postoperative period, prolonged apnea is common and extubation is delayed. In this case report, the effect of using sugammadex was presented in a 16-year-old girl with RS. The patient's all bimaxillary teeth and 4 wisdom teeth were extracted under general anesthesia in one session with minimal surgical trauma and moderate bleeding. Sugammadex can be a rapid and reliable agent for the reversal of the neuromuscular block in neurodegenerative patients.

On slant Riemannian submersions for cosymplectic manifolds

In this paper, we introduce slant Riemannian submersions from cosymplectic manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We obtain some results on slant Riemannian submersions of a cosymplectic manifold. We also give examples and inequalities between the scalar curvature and squared mean curvature of fibres of such slant submersions in the cases where the characteristic vector field is vertical or horizontal.

Classification of three-dimensional conformally flat quasi-para-sasakian manifolds

The aim of this paper is to study three-dimensional conformally flat quasi-para-Sasakian manifolds. First, the necessary and sufficient conditions are provided for three-dimensional quasi-para-Sasakian manifolds to be conformally flat. Next, a characterization of three-dimensional conformally flat quasi-para-Sasakian manifold is given. Finally, a method for constructing examples of three-dimensional conformally flat quasi-para-Sasakian manifolds is presented.

SOME CLASSES OF 3-DIMENSIONAL NORMAL ALMOST PARACONTACT METRIC MANIFOLDS

The aim of present paper is to investigate 3-dimensional ${\xi}$-projectively flt and $\tilde{\varphi}$-projectively flt normal almost paracontact metric manifolds. As a first step, we proved that if the 3-dimensional normal almost paracontact metric manifold is ${\xi}$-projectively flt then ${\Delta}{\beta}=0$. If additionally ${\beta}$ is constant then the manifold is ${\beta}$-para-Sasakian. Later, we proved that a 3-dimensional normal almost paracontact metric manifold is $\tilde{\varphi}$-projectively flt if and only if it is an Einstein manifold for ${\alpha},{\beta}=const$. Finally, we constructed an example to illustrate the results obtained in previous sections.

Effect of preemptive intravenous ibuprofen on postoperative edema and trismus in third molar tooth extraction: A randomized controlled study

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory efficacy of preemptive intravenous ibuprofen on inflammatory complications such as edema and trismus in patients undergoing impacted mandibular third molar surgery. Methods: Sixty patients were included and divided into three groups (800 mg IV ibuprofen + 50 mg dexketoprofen, 800 mg IV ibuprofen, and control). In all patients, preoperative hemodynamic values were recorded before the infusions. The operation was started at 15-min post-infusion. Evaluation of edema size on the face and mouth opening (trismus) was conducted in the preoperative period, and at postoperative 48 h and 1 week. Results: No difference was determined among the groups in trismus and edema size in postoperative measurements (P > 0.05). There was a difference between group 2 and group 3 only in measurement value of tragus-corner of the mouth on the postoperative day 2 (P < 0.05). A difference was found between the measurement values of trismus preoperatively and at preoperative day 2, and between postoperative day 2 and 1 week in group 3 based on time (P < 0.05). In group 3, edema on the face on postoperative day 2 increased significantly compared to that in the preoperative period (P < 0.001); in addition, edema increased significantly in groups 1 and 2 in the postoperative period but was less than that in group 3 (P < 0.001). Conclusions: In this study, intravenous ibuprofen was determined to be more effective alone or in combination in alleviating trismus and to better limit the postoperative edema.

Analgesic and Antiinflammatory Activities of Some New Mannich Bases of 5-Nitro-2-Benzoxazolinones

In this study, the synthesis of a novel series Mannich bases of 5-nitro-3-substituted piperazino-methyl-2-benzoxazolinones are described. The structures attributed to compounds 3a-3k were elucidated using IR, $^1$H-NMR spectroscopic techniques besides elemental analysis. The compounds were examined for their in vivo antiinflammatory and analgesic activities in two different bioassays, namely, carrageenan-induced hind paw edema and p-benzoquinone-inducedabdominal constriction tests in mice, respectively. In addition, the ulcerogenic effects of the compounds were determined. Among the tested derivatives most promising results were obtained for the compounds bearing electron-withdrawing substituents (F, Cl, COCH$_3$) in the ortho/para position of the phenyl nucleus on the piperazine ring at 3 position of benzoxazoli-none moiety (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 3h). The analgesic activities of all compounds are higher than their antiinflammatory activities. Antiinflammatory inhibitory ratios for all compounds were above 30% for the last two measurements. Because of this compounds 3a,3b,3c,3d deserve attention and may be considered for further evaluation.

Free vibration analysis of steel liquid storage tank with functionally graded column based on modified continuum mechanics

It's important to note that the number of studies on the lateral vibration of steel liquid storage tanks has been quite modest in the past. The aim of this research has to look at the variables that affect vibration of storage tanks and to highlight the characteristics of a construction that hasn't received much attention in the literature. The storage tank has pre-sized in the study, and aluminum and steel have chosen as components. The specified material qualities and the factors utilized in the investigation has used to calculate vibration frequency values. The resulting calculations are backed up by tables and graphs, and it's an important to look into the parameters that affect the vibration frequencies that will occur on the designed storage tank vary. In the literature, water tanks are usually modelled as lumped masses. The horizontal stiffness of the column on which it is placed is assumed to be constant throughout. This is an approximation method of solving this problem. The column is handled in this study with a more realistic approach that fits the continuum mechanics in the analysis. The reservoir part is incorporated directly into the problem as the boundary condition.

Replacing Actinomycin-D with Carboplatin for Newly Diagnosed Rhabdomyosarcoma

Background: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in the pediatric age group. All patients with RMS regardless of their initial stage or group receive combination chemotherapy as 'standard therapy' consisting of vincristine, actinomycin-D and cyclophosphamide. Actinomycin-D was not readily available in Turkey at one time. Carboplatin was used instead in order to prevent delays in treatment. The aim of this report is to present the results of patients with rhabdomyosarcoma receiving carboplatin or actinomycin-D therapy. Materials and Methods: Twenty four patients with rhabdomyosarcoma treated between December 2000 and June 2011 were included in this retrospective study. The patients were treated according to International Rhabdomyosarcoma Study Group guidelines. Eleven patients were treated with actinomycin-D and 13 with carboplatin ($250mg/m^2/dose$ for 2 days). The two groups were then compared in terms of 2- and 5-year overall survival (OS) and hematological and non-hematological toxicities. Results: Age, sex, stage and the mean duration of follow-up were similar in both groups (p>0.05). Two- and five-year OS levels were 68.2% in the carboplatin group and 78.0% and 40.0%, respectively, in the actinomycin-D group. There was no statistical difference in the number of febrile episodes (p=0.86) and no other hematological and non-hematological adverse effects were recorded in both groups. Conclusions: The findings show that carboplatin can be used as an alternative drug in the primary treatment of rhabdomyosarcoma in the event that actinomycin-D is unavailable or not tolerated.
