Background: Oral cancer is a common form of cancer in India, particularly among men. About 95% are squamous cell carcinomas. Tobacco along with alcohol are regarded as the major risk factors. Objectives: (i) To determine associations of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) with respect to gender, age group, socioeconomic status and risk habits; (ii) To observe the distribution of affected oral anatomical sites and clinico-pathological profile in OSCC patients. Materials and Methods: This is an unmatched case-control study during period January 2012 to December 2013. Total of 471 confirmed OSCC patients and 556 control subjects were enrolled. Data on socio-demography, risk habits with duration and medical history were recorded. Results: There were significant associations between OSCC with middle age (41-50years; unadjusted OR=1.63, 95%CI=1.05-2.52, p=0.02) (51-60 years; unadjusted OR=1.79, 95%CI=1.15-2.79, p=0.009) and male subjects (unadjusted OR=2.49, 95%CI=1.89-3.27, p=0.0001). Cases with both habits of tobacco chewing and smoking were at a higher risk for OSCC than tobacco chewing alone (unadjusted OR=0.52, 95%CI=0.38-0.72, p=0.0001), duration of risk habits also emerged as a responsible factor for the development of carcinoma. The majority of patients were presented in well-differentiated carcinomas (39.9%). Prevalence of advance stages (TNM stage III, IV) was 23.4% and 18.3% respectively. The buccal mucosa was the most common (35.5%) affected oral site. Conclusions: In most Asian countries, especially India, there is an important need to initiate the national level public awareness programs to control and prevent oral cancer by screening for early diagnosis and support a tobacco free environment.

In order to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin its conjugates with piperic acid and glycine were synthesized by esterifying the 4 and 4' phenolic hydroxyls, the sites of metabolic conjugation. Antiproliferative and apoptotic efficacy of synthesized conjugates was investigated in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines. $IC_{50}$ values of di-O-glycinoyl (CDG) and di-O-piperoyl (CDP) esters of curcumin were found to be comparable with that of curcumin. Both conjugates induced chromatin condensation fragmentation and apoptotic body formation. CDP exposure to MCF-7 cells induced apoptosis initiating loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (${\Delta}{\Psi}m$) followed by inhibition of translocation of transcription factor NF-${\kappa}B$ and release of Cytochrome-C. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was evaluated by fluorescent activated cell sorter. Change in ratio of Bcl2/Bclxl was observed, suggesting permeablization of mitochondrial membrane leading to the release of AIF, Smac and other apoptogenic molecules. DNA fragmentation as a hallmark for apoptosis was monitored by TUNEL as well as agrose gel electrophoresis. Thus, it was proven that conjugation does not affect the therapeutic potential of parent molecule in vitro, while these could work in vivo as prodrugs with enhanced pharmacokinetic profile. Pharmacokinetics of these molecules under in vivo conditions is a further scope of this study.

Purpose: This study aims at exploring and understanding the effect of four independent variables related to dairy retail marketing and distribution (deep freezers, promotions, company support and distributor-retailer relationship) and one moderating variable Covid-19 lockdown on sales of dairy product during the Covid 19 pandemic situation. Research design and methodology: Personal interviews and door-to-door surveys and promotional tools were designed to publicise and collect data from the retailers. The sale data before, during and after promotion activity were all recorded and evaluated to draw an inferential conclusion. Factor analysis and multiple regression methods were adopted to analyses the data collected. Results: The research shows that four out of the five factors studied was found having significant impact on dairy retail sales. The highest impact on sales was contributed by promotions, secondly by the deep freezer impact followed by distributor-retailer relationship during the study period and lastly but not the least due to influence of Covid-19 lockdown. Conclusions: The study contributes to the body of knowledge in cold chain distribution process through utilization of right mix of tools and tactics for effective marketing and distribution of dairy products in developing countries especially during a pandemic situation.

The coiling of a steel strip in a Downcoiler is an integrated part of the hot-rolled steel production line. Failure to coiling results damage to finished rolled strip along with mill downtime due to cobble. Thus, coiling success in Downcoiler is a critical concern for production of hot rolled steel strip. A mathematical model has been developed to analyze coiling feasibility for new grade of high strength steel to be rolled for the first time in the mill and to thereby identify a safe operating window for the coiling-process parameters. This has significant benefit in reducing the risk of coiling failure during plant trial and thus product development cycle time. The model is based on the estimation of coiler tension for a new grade with reference to mill-based physical data of coiling compactness as defined by a wrapper angle from known grades, coiled in the mill. This is followed by computation and comparison of coiling torque vis-à-vis the capacity of the Downcoiler allows a decision to be taken about the coiling feasibility of the new grade. It is believed that it is for the first time that a coiling feasibility algorithm has been developed and discussed. The model has been widely used within Tata Steel to carry out plant trails for the development of new grade as well as rolling of new section in existing grades at its Hot Strip Mill in Indian plant at Kalinganagar.
Genetic Optimization based Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Control of a pH Neutralization Process
Parikshit Kishor Singh,Surekha Bhanot,Hare Krishna Mohanta 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Control and Automation Vol.7 No.11
Presence of severe nonlinearity in pH neutralization process makes the problem of pH control a difficult and challenging one. Further, optimized control of such highly nonlinear system requires tuning of various parameters with a suitable evolutionary algorithm (EA). This paper presents genetic algorithm (GA) based unconstrained, continuous and single-objective optimization of conventional and adaptive nonlinear fuzzy logic control (FLC) of pH neutralization process for servo and regulatory operations. The GA optimized adaptive FLC scheme changes the universe of discourse of input-output membership functions based on the region of operation and amount of step change in set-point and load. The performance of controllers are evaluated using integral of squared errors (ISE) and tested for random step changes in set-point and load.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The electrical and thermal transport at the interface of hetero-structures plays a critical role in device performance. Here, we successfully grew single-crystalline Sb2Te3 nanoplates (NPs) on graphene by the solvothermal method due to the small lattice mismatch (∼4%) between c-axis aligned rhombohedral Sb2Te3 and bridge sites of graphene. The growth of Sb2Te3 NPs was bound by the graphene grain boundary, and the average size of Sb2Te3NPs increased from 2.2 to 8.8 μm, with a maximum of 21 μm, as the graphene grain size increased from 2.2 to 9.4 μm. The Ohmic contact was realized between the Sb2Te3 NP and graphene. However, a limited thermal boundary conductance (<I>K</I> <I>BD</I> , average and maximum:13.45 and 17.69 MW m <I>−2</I> K <I>−</I>1) was observed by Raman thermometry due to the large acoustic mismatch (Debye temperature difference = 1935 K). Both small lattice and acoustic mismatch was required to achieve high <I>K</I> <I>BD</I> . The electrical and thermal contact was poor (average and minimum <I>K</I> <I>BD</I> : 0.16 and 0.08 MW m <I>−2</I> K <I>−</I>1) when Sb2Te3 NPs were separately synthesized and drop-deposited on graphene. This demonstrated that the direct growth of Sb2Te3 on graphene was very important, rather than the simple transfer method, to achieve good electrical and thermal contact at the interface of hetero-structures.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Direct irradiation of 1Z,3E-1-cyano-1,4-diphenylbutadiene (2) and 1Z,3E-1-cyano-3-methyl-1,4-diphenylbutadiene (3) in organic solvents viz. n-hexane, methanol and acetonitrile results in preferential isomerization of the double bond substituted with cyano group via one-photon-one-bond isomerization process. The quantum efficiency of the isomerization of 3 is more than 2 in all the three solvents. Photoproducts of 2 and 3 (viz. 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b) also exhibited similar photoisomerization trends. The results are discussed in terms of the effects of substituents on the potential energy surface of the excited singlet states of $\alpha$,$\omega$-diphenylpolyenes, and the role of zwitterionic dipolar species in the photoisomerization process of linearly conjugated C=C polyenes is highlighted.
