      • The Role of Private Sector Enterproses in Restructuring and Economic Recovery in Poland, 1990-1995

Klich, Jacek 서울대학교 사회과학연구소 1995 社會科學과政策硏究 Vol.17 No.3

The aim of this paper is to present the development of the private sector of the Polish economy which has been taking place since 1990. In the first part of the paper main ways of establishing private ownership, namely the privatisation of economic entities of state-owned legal person status, reprivatisation, and foreign investment will be described. Then in the second part private enterprises' contribution to economic recovery in the mid-1990s will be elucidated. It is argued in this paper that private sector (especially small and medium-sized private enterprises) is the primary source of economic growth in Poland.

Fleshing Out: Intermedial Bodies and Dancers-in-Code

        ( Rosemary Klich ) 대한무용학회 2015 대한무용학회논문집 Vol.73 No.3

Drawing on new media theory, particularly Mark Hansen`s notion of the ‘body-in-code`, this article explores the nature of the performing body as intrinsically intermedial. Wayne McGregor/Random Dance`s Undance and Klaus Obermaier`s Rites explore the very ontology of dance, the material body, in its relationship to the media technologies; bodies and technology are presented as both inherently and directly intertwined, inherently via processes of cultural-historical co-evolution and directly through interaction and intermediation. Rather than suggesting the disappearance or undoing of the body, these works reposition the human body as active in the framing and function of new media technologies.

      • Aluminium and titanium alloys surface behaviour under argon and helium ion exposure

        Bizyukov, I.,Girka, O.,Kaczmarek, Ł.,Klich, M.,Myroshnyk, M.,Januszewicz, B.,Owczarek, S. Elsevier 2018 Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Vol.436 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Samples of aluminium alloy 2024 and titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V are irradiated with 2 keV helium (He) and argon (Ar) ion fluxes using FALCON ion source. Cone-like structures are found to be formed on the surface of two Al(2024) samples due to both irradiation conditions: Ar and He ions exposure reaching total fluence 9.75 × 1025 m−2 and total charge 150 Coulomb per sample. Ar ions exposure of Ti-6Al-4V causes cones formation, while exposure for He ions causes only physical sputtering morphology at the same fluence. Chemical composition of grown structures is obtained from energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Surface roughness and roughness profile are investigated with confocal microscope. Hardness of irradiated surfaces is obtained from results of Vickers hardness test. Residual stresses after irradiation and phase composition are measured by X-ray Diffraction spectroscopy (XRD). The mechanisms of cones growth on alloys surface are surface radiation-stimulated diffusion and ion induced collision cascades evolution.</P>

Molecular Characterization of Isolated from Murine Adult Tissues Very Small Embryonic/Epiblast like Stem Cells (VSELs)

        Shin, Dong-Myung,Liu, Rui,Klich, Izabela,Ratajczak, Janina,Kucia, Magda,Ratajczak, Mariusz Z. Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2010 Molecules and cells Vol.29 No.6

Pluripotent very small embryonic/epiblast derived stem cells (VSELs) as we hypothesize are deposited at begin of gastrulation in developing tissues and play an important role as backup population of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) for tissue committed stem cells (TCSCs). We envision that during steady state conditions these cells may be involved in tissue rejuvenation and in processes of regeneration/repair after organ injuries. Molecular analysis of adult bone marrow (BM)-derived purified VSELs revealed that they i) express pluripotent stem cells markers e.g., Oct4, Nanog, Klf-4, SSEA-1 ii) share several markers characteristic for epiblast as well as migratory primordial germ cells (PGCs), and iii) possess a unique pattern of genomic imprinting (e.g., erasure of differently methylated regions at Igf2-H19 and Rasgrf1 loci and hypermethylation at KCNQ1 and Igf2R loci). This supports that VSELs are related to epiblast-derived migrating PGC-like cells and, despite their pluripotent stem cell character, changes in the epigenetic signature of imprinted genes keep these cells quiescent in adult tissues and prevent them from teratoma formation. In contrast epigenetic changes/mutations that lead to activation of imprinted genes could potentially lead to tumor formation by these cells. Mounting evidence accumulates that perturbation of expression of imprinted genes is a common phenomenon observed in developing tumors.

Arabidopsis thaliana as Bioindicator of Fungal VOCs in Indoor Air

        ( Samantha Lee ),( Richard Hung ),( Guohua Yin ),( Maren A. Klich ),( Casey Grimm ),( Joan W. Bennett ) 한국균학회 2016 Mycobiology Vol.44 No.3

In this paper, we demonstrate the ability of Arabidopsis thaliana to detect different mixtures of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by the common indoor fungus, Aspergillus versicolor, and demonstrate the potential usage of the plant as a bioindicator to monitor fungal VOCs in indoor air. We evaluated the volatile production of Aspergillus versicolor strains SRRC 108 (NRRL 3449) and SRRC 2559 (ATCC 32662) grown on nutrient rich fungal medium, and grown under conditions to mimic the substrate encountered in the built environment where fungi would typically grow indoors (moist wallboard and ceiling tiles). Using headspace solid phase microextraction/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, we analyzed VOC profiles of the two strains. The most abundant compound produced by both strains on all three media was 1-octen-3-ol. Strain SRRC 2559 made several terpenes not detected from strain SRRC 108. Using a split-plate bioassay, we grew Arabidopsis thaliana in a shared atmosphere with VOCs from the two strains of Aspergillus versicolor grown on yeast extract sucrose medium. The VOCs emitted by SRRC 2559 had an adverse impact on seed germination and plant growth. Chemical standards of individual VOCs from the Aspergillus versicolor mixture (2-methyl-1-butanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, 1-octen-3-ol, limonene, and β-farnesene), and β- caryophyllene were tested one by one in seed germination and vegetative plant growth assays. The most inhibitory compound to both seed germination and plant growth was 1-octen-3-ol. Our data suggest that Arabidopsis is a useful model for monitoring indoor air quality as it is sensitive to naturally emitted fungal volatile mixtures as well as to chemical standards of individual compounds, and it exhibits relatively quick concentration- and duration-dependent responses.
