Implications of telomerase reverse transcriptase in tumor metastasis
Yongkang Zou,Yu-Sheng Cong,Junzhi Zhou 생화학분자생물학회 2020 BMB Reports Vol.53 No.9
Metastasis is the main culprit of the great majority of cancerrelated deaths. However, the complicated process of the invasion- metastasis cascade remains the least understood aspect of cancer biology. Telomerase plays a pivotal role in bypassing cellular senescence and sustaining the cancer progression by maintaining telomere homeostasis and genomic integrity. Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) exerts a series of fundamental functions that are independent of its enzymatic cellular activity, including proliferation, inflammation, epithelia-mesenchymal transition (EMT), angiogenesis, DNA repair, and gene expression. Accumulating evidence indicates that TERT may facilitate most steps of the invasion-metastasis cascade. In this review, we summarize important advances that have revealed some of the mechanisms by which TERT facilitates tumor metastasis, providing an update on the non-canonical functions of telomerase beyond telomere maintaining.
Design of vortex finder structure for decreasing the pressure drop of a cyclone separator
Yaquan Sun,Junzhi Yu,Weibing Wang,Shanglin Yang,Xue Hu,Jingan Feng 한국화학공학회 2020 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.37 No.5
The structure of the vortex finder has an important influence on the pressure drop and separation efficiency of a cyclone, which mainly governs the separation process. In this paper, the traditional vortex finder is slotted on side wall and its bottom is closed, i.e., a slotted vortex finder. The impact of slotted vortex finder on the separation performance of a cyclone is explored by using numerical simulation and experimental validation. Specifically, the gas phase is studied by the Reynolds stress model (RSM), and the particle phase is simulated by the discrete phase model (DPM). The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results, revealing higher prediction accuracy. The results indicate that the slotted vortex finder can effectively suppress the generation of the downward swirling flow at the center of the vortex finder and decrease the turbulence intensity at the bottom of the vortex finder and the outer vortex, thereby decreasing the energy loss and increasing the separation efficiency. When the slot length is 0.2De, the slotted vortex finder can reduce the pressure drop by 143.33 Pa while increasing the collection efficiency by 5.51%.

The statistical two-order and two-scale method is developed for predicting the mechanics parameters, such as stiffness and strength of core-shell particle-filled polymer composites. The representation and simulation on meso-configuration of random particle-filled polymers are stated. And the major statistical two-order and two-scale analysis formulation is briefly given. The two-order and two-scale expressions for the strains and stresses of conventionally strength experimental components, including the tensional or compressive column, the twist bar and the bending beam, are developed by means of their classical solutions with orthogonal-anisotropic coefficients. Then a new effective mesh generation algorithm is presented. The mechanics parameters of core-shell particle-filled polymer composites, including the expected stiffness parameters, minimum stiffness parameters, and the expected elasticity limit strength and the minimum elasticity limit strength, are defined by means of the stiffness coefficients and elasticity strength criterions for core, shell and matrix. Finally, the numerical results for predicting both stiffness and elasticity limit strength parameters are compared with the experimental data.
