      • Normalized LMS algorithm with Evolutionary Change of Orthogonal Correction Factors

        JiHye Seo,NamWoong Kong,PooGyeon Park 제어로봇시스템학회 2011 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2011 No.10

This paper proposes a normalized LMS algorithm which automatically determines the number of orthogonal correction factors using an evolutionary method. The evolutionary method increases or decreases the number of orthogonal correction factors by comparing the squared output errors with some threshold. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has not only a fast convergence rate and a small steady-state estimation error but also lower computational complexity than the existing algorithms with multiple input vectors.

Review of tidal characteristics of Uldolmok Strait and optimal design of blade shape for horizontal axis tidal current turbines

        Seo, Jihye,Yi, Jin-Hak,Park, Jin-Soon,Lee, Kwang-Soo PERGAMON 2019 RENEWABLE AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY REVIEWS Vol.113 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Ocean energy is a promising renewable energy resource. In particular, South Korea is a country with a large amount of tidal current energy needed for the economically and technically feasible development of a tidal current power plant. In this study, the environmental conditions including the bathymetry and tidal conditions for Uldolmok Strait and previous studies carried out in Uldolmok Strait are first briefly reviewed, and the optimal design of the blade shape and performance of an optimally designed horizontal axis rotor for a 200-kW class tidal current turbine are discussed. For the optimal blade shape design, the design code, the Horizontal Axis Rotor Performance Optimizer developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in the United States, is utilized, and the performance is investigated with respect to the number of blades (two or three) and the pitch control algorithms (variable or fixed). The results indicate that a variable speed fixed pitch turbine with three blades showed the best performance. However, the performances of four alternative cases did not show significant differences. Considering the advantages in terms of maintenance, we also conducted an analysis under various rotor and cut-in speed conditions. Hence, to select the final design, it is necessary to consider the structural integrity related to fatigue, as well as the economic feasibility in manufacturing the blades.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The tidal characteristics of Uldolmok Strait is briefly reviewed. </LI> <LI> Optimal design of blade shape is carried out. </LI> <LI> The performance of the horizontal axis rotor are discussed with respect to different operational conditions. </LI> <LI> The performance of the tidal current turbine is discussed considering the advantages in terms of maintenance. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Seo, Jihye,Kim, Jae Kyoun,Lee, Ju Ah,Go, Ho-Yeon,Sung, Hyun-Kyung,Shin, Seon-Mi,Jung, Woo Sang,Yeom, Seung-Ryong,Choi, Ye-yong,Yun, Jong-Min,Lee, Sangkwan Elsevier 2017 EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE Vol.15 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Introduction</B></P> <P>Migraine is a common and disabling primary headache disorder. Cupping is a traditional medical treatment used in several societies in East Asia and it is frequently used for controlling pain including migraine. There have been no systematic reviews on the treatment effects of cupping on migraine. Furthermore, related studies have had many limitations, making it unclear whether cupping intervention is beneficial for migraine. We propose to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to consider the evidence related to the effect of cupping on migraine.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>We developed a protocol describing the essential reporting items based on the PRISMA for systematic review protocols 2015 (PRISMA-P 2015) (Registration number: CRD42017054979). We will search eight databases and include data from prospective randomized controlled clinical trials or quasi-randomized controlled trials that used cupping interventions for the treatment of migraine. The risk of bias will be assessed with the “Risk of bias” tool from the Cochrane Handbook. Using improved effectiveness and the change in headache pain intensity as graded on the visual analogue scale as the primary outcomes, we will compare these outcomes between the cupping intervention and control groups.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>There have been no systematic reviews of cupping therapy for migraine headaches to date. This systematic review will assess the effectiveness and safety of cupping therapy for migraine. This systematic review will inform and help healthcare practitioners to treat migraine and will be disseminated electronically and in print in a peer-reviewed journal.</P>

The role of epithelial–mesenchymal transition-regulating transcription factors in anti-cancer drug resistance

        Jihye Seo,Jain Ha,Eunjeong Kang,Sayeon Cho 대한약학회 2021 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.44 No.3

The complex orchestration of gene expressionthat mediates the transition of epithelial cells intomesenchymal cells is implicated in cancer developmentand metastasis. As the primary regulator of the process,epithelial-mesenchymal transition-regulating transcriptionfactors (EMT-TFs) play key roles in metastasis. They arealso highlighted in recent preclinical studies on resistanceto cancer therapy. This review describes the role of threemain EMT-TFs, including Snail, Twist1, and zinc-fi nger Ehomeobox-binding 1 (ZEB1), relating to drug resistance andcurrent possible approaches for future challenges targetingEMT-TFs.

      • Comparative study between inelastic compressive buckling analysis and Eurocode 3 for rectangular steel columns under elevated temperatures

Jihye Seo,Deokhee Won,Seungjun Kim 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.43 No.3

This paper presents an inelastic buckling behavior analysis of rectangular hollow steel tubes with geometrical imperfections under elevated temperatures. The main variables are the temperature loads, slenderness ratios, and exposure conditions at high temperatures. The material and structural properties of steels at different temperatures are based on Eurocode (EN 1993-1-2, 2005). In the elastic buckling analysis, the buckling strength decreases linearly with the exposure conditions, whereas the inelastic buckling analysis shows that the buckling strength decreases in clusters based on the exposure conditions of strong and weak axes. The buckling shape of the rectangular steel column in the elastic buckling mode, which depicts geometrical imperfection, shows a shift in the position at which bending buckling occurs when the lower section of the member is exposed to high temperatures. Furthermore, lateral torsional buckling occurs owing to cross-section deformation when the strong axial plane of the model is exposed to high temperatures. The elastic buckling analysis indicates a conservative value when the model is exposed to a relatively low temperature, whereas the inelastic buckling analysis indicates a conservative value at a certain temperature or higher. The comparative results between the inelastic buckling analysis and Eurocode 3 show that a range exists in which the buckling strength in the design equation result is overestimated at elevated temperatures, and the shapes of the buckling curves are different.
