According to the increase of the number and portion of the elderly people, the elderly housing is an important social welfare factor as the solution of the elderly problem. When we consider the elderly housing of Korea, it should be appropriate to Korean culture and emotion. This study aims to suggest two ways of Korean elderly housing: three-generation housing and the renovation of housing which one elderly person have lived in. Considering that family centrism is remained a lot in Korean consciousness, those two ways should be developed well so as to build a unique Korean housing culture for the elderly.

Entomopathogenic fungus is a useful control agent to sucking type insect such as whitefly and aphid. The fungi are influenced by some environmental factors such as relative humidity, temperature and UV and cause slow and fluctuation in pest control efficacy. Especially, UV kills conidia or spores of entomopathogenic fungi and a mycopesticide using fungi has short control period in field. UV intensity changes from season to season. Survival rate of entomopathognic fungi treated may differ from seasons and will show different control efficacy. Therefore, we conducted a study to estimate the persistence of an Isaria javanica isolate, which was already reported as sweet potato whitefly control agent, in potted greenhouse soil planted different crops. The number of survival spore decreased gradually and differ from seasons.
Cks1 regulates human hepatocellular carcinoma cell progression through osteopontin expression

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Precise cell cycle regulation is critical to prevent aberrant cell proliferation and cancer progression. Cks1 was reported to be an essential accessory factor for SCFSkp2, the ubiquitin ligase that targets p27Kip1 for proteasomal degradation; these actions drive mammalian cell transition from G1 to S phase. In this study, we investigated the role played by Cks1 in the growth and progression of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. Silencing Cks1 expression abrogated osteopontin (OPN) expression in a p27Kip1-dependent manner in Huh7 HCC cells. OPN increased the proliferation, migration and invasion of Huh7 cells. Pharmacological inhibitor studies demonstrated that ERK1/2 signaling is responsible mainly for Cks1-mediated OPN expression. Cks1 appears to regulate ERK1/2 signaling through the expression of dual-specificity phosphatase 16 (DUSP16) because both Cks1 knockdown, which leads to DUSP16 upregulation, and DUSP16 overexpression decreased ERK1/2 phosphorylation and the resulting OPN expression. The same is true for the Cks1-mediated increases in p27Kip1, suggesting that Cks1 regulates OPN expression through activating ERK1/2 signaling either by suppressing DUSP16 expression or by a p27Kip1-dependent mechanism. Cks1 and OPN expression levels were significantly higher, but DUSP16 expression levels were significantly lower in HCC tissues than in normal liver tissues. Both Cks1 and OPN expression were negatively correlated with DUSP16 expression, whereas Cks1 expression was positively correlated with OPN expression. Moreover, combined panels for the expression levels of Cks1, DUSP16 and OPN showed significant prognostic power for the risk assessment of HCC patient overall survival. In conclusion, our data propose a novel function for Cks1 as a tumor promoter through the expression of the strongly oncogenic protein OPN in HCC.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Cks1 promotes OPN expression in human HCC cells. </LI> <LI> The Cks1-mediated upregulation of DUSP16 or p27Kip1 decreased OPN expression. </LI> <LI> DUSP16- or p27Kip1-mediated ERK1/2 inactivation is responsible for OPN abrogation. </LI> <LI> Cks1, DUSP16 and OPN may be a useful prognostic biomarker panel for HCC patients. </LI> </UL> </P>
Tau energy loss and ultrahigh energy skimming tau neutrinos
Jeong, Yu Seon,Luu, Minh Vu,Reno, Mary Hall,Sarcevic, Ina American Physical Society 2017 Physical Review D Vol.96 No.4
<P>We consider propagation of high-energy earth-skimming taus produced in interactions of astrophysical tau neutrinos. For astrophysical tau neutrinos, we take generic power-law flux, E-2 and the cosmogenic flux initiated by the protons. We calculate tau energy loss in several approaches, such as dipole models and the phenomenological approach in which parametrization of the F-2 is used. We evaluate the tau neutrino charged-current cross section using the same approaches for consistency. We find that uncertainty in the neutrino cross section and in the tau energy loss partially compensate giving very small theoretical uncertainty in the emerging tau flux for distances ranging from 2 to 100 km and for the energy range between 10(6) and 10(11) GeV, focusing on energies above 10(8) GeV. When we consider uncertainties in the neutrino cross section, inelasticity in neutrino interactions and the tau energy loss, which are not correlated, i.e. they are not all calculated in the same approach, theoretical uncertainty ranges from about 30% and 60% at 10(8) GeV to about factors of 3.3 and 3.8 at 10(11) GeV for the E-2 flux and the cosmogenic flux, respectively, for the distance of 10 km rock. The spread in predictions significantly increases for much larger distances, e.g., similar to 1, 000 km. Most of the uncertainty comes from the treatment of photonuclear interactions of the tau in transit through large distances. We also consider Monte Carlo calculation of the tau propagation and we find that the result for the emerging tau flux is in agreement with the result obtained using analytic approach. Our results are relevant to several experiments that are looking for skimming astrophysical taus, such as the Pierre Auger Observatory, HAWC and Ashra. We evaluate the aperture for the Auger and discuss briefly application to the other two experiments.</P>
Constraints on the U(1)L gauge boson in a wide mass range
Jeong, Yu Seon,Kim, C. S.,Lee, Hye-Sung World Scientific Publishing 2016 International Journal of Modern Physics A Vol.31 No.11
<P> There is a growing interest for the search of new light gauge bosons. The small mass of a new boson can turn various kinds of low-energy experiments to a new discovery machine, depending on their couplings to the Standard Model particles. It is important to understand the properties of each type of gauge boson and their current constraints for a given mass. While the dark photon (which couples to the electric charges) and the [Formula: see text] gauge boson have been well studied in an extensive mass range, the [Formula: see text] gauge boson has not been fully investigated yet. We consider the gauge boson of the [Formula: see text] in a wide mass range [Formula: see text] and investigate the constraints on its coupling from various experiments, discussing the similarities and differences from the dark photon and the [Formula: see text] gauge boson. </P>
