Power Electronic Conversion Systems for Deepwater Applications
Jacobo Aguillon-Garcia,Andreas Kristoffersen,Tore Undeland 전력전자학회 2007 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
This paper describes the research program devoted to the study of electronic components and its function in the power conversion systems to be used on deepwater applications. Frequent approaches for operation of electronic equipment include: Hard shell enclosures maintained at normal air pressure, soft shell with a pressure compensating fluid and free-flooded equipment. This article discusses the last two techniques taking in account the overall cost. In those viewpoints the characteristics and the influence of high hydrostatic pressure on the components and incompatibility of the components with the immersion fluid (if needed), will be presented. Guidelines necessary to alleviate anticipated and known problem areas are proposed.
Low Cost FPGA-based Control Strategy for a Single Phase Stacked Multicell Converter
Jacobo Aguillon-Garcia,Gun-Woo Moon 전력전자학회 2005 전력전자학술대회 논문집 Vol.- No.-
Multilevel converters have emerged like a new strategy for energy conversion from medium power to high power. The main characteristic of the topologies classified as multilevel, is the use of commutation devices connected in series, allowing the distribution of the voltage and reducing stress in the commutation switches. Stacked Multicell Converter (SMC), is classified as single-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). Due to the fact, the SMC generates a signal of alternating current of several levels of voltage of direct current. The following work will demonstrate the flexibility of the above mentioned topology using a low cost control circuit architecture.
UPDATE OF GAME COMPONENTS IN A MUSEUM-LOAN KIT FOR SCIENCE CLASS
Moreno Jacobo,Kim Daewoong 한국디자인학회 2015 한국디자인학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2015 No.10
In this paper we present the planning of the next installment of the fourth grade elementary school human body loan-kit, its prototype was previously developed and tested. This research aims to encourage collaboration between the museum and schools and offer game-like experiences to engage the students. In order to improve the loan-kit, a restructuring of the previous gameplay plan took place, along with a higher emphasis on character design, UI design and analog elements implementation.

The effect of acicular ferrite (AF) and bainite (B) obtained by heat treatment (HT) applied to an API X70 steel on corrosionresistance and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility was evaluated through polarization curves and slow strain ratetests respectively, in NS4 solution and congenital water (CW). The HT was carried out at 1050 °C for 15 and 30 min followedby water quenching. Change of ferrite–perlite to AF and B was observed as result of heat treatment applied to X70steel. Effect of HT time in terms of microstructure obtained was analysed. The mechanical properties obtained by the HTare higher than X100 steel. HT-30 min improve the corrosion resistance of X70 steel exposed to both solutions, which arerelated to coarse and homogeneous microstructure of AF and B. Localized corrosion was observed in the steel exposed toboth solutions. HT-15 min improve mechanical properties and higher content of fine AF, but decreases SCC resistance. Steel with higher content of fine AF microstructure is more susceptible to SCC. SCC indexes revealed that the heat-treatedsteel could be susceptible to SCC in CW confirmed by the secondary cracks observed. The SCC mechanism was hydrogenembrittlement. Meanwhile, steel HT by 15 min exposed to NS4 solution could be susceptible to SCC. Crack growth rate washigher in steel HT by 15 min, which are related to more fine and brittle AF microstructure.
Single Soft-Switching Multi-Level Energy Recovery Circuit Driver for Plasma Display Panel
하꼬보 아기용(Jacobo A guillon-Garcia),문건우(Gun-Woo Moon) 전력전자학회 2006 전력전자학술대회 논문집 Vol.- No.-
The power source of an AC-PDP for sustainer circuit is operated in high-voltage and high frequency switching during the process required to achieve the gas discharge current to generate light in a PDP panel. Since PDP has the characteristics of a pure capacitive load, the displacement current that occurs during charge and discharge generates considerable reactive power. An auxiliary circuitry called Energy Recovery Circuit (ERC) reduces the capacitive displacement current. However, this auxiliary topology also bears high stress in its components. In this paper, a multilevel voltage wave shaping sustainer circuit with auxiliary ERC characteristics for an AC-PDP driver is proposed. A comparative analysis and experimental results are presented.
Indirect structural health monitoring of a simplified laboratory-scale bridge model
Fernando Cerda,Siheng Chen,Jacobo Bielak,James H. Garrett,Piervincenzo Rizzo,Jelena Kovačević 국제구조공학회 2014 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.13 No.5
An indirect approach is explored for structural health bridge monitoring allowing for wide, yet cost-effective, bridge stock coverage. The detection capability of the approach is tested in a laboratory setting for three different reversible proxy types of damage scenarios: changes in the support conditions (rotational restraint), additional damping, and an added mass at the midspan. A set of frequency features is used in conjunction with a support vector machine classifier on data measured from a passing vehicle at the wheel and suspension levels, and directly from the bridge structure for comparison. For each type of damage, four levels of severity were explored. The results show that for each damage type, the classification accuracy based on data measured from the passing vehicle is, on average, as good as or better than the classification accuracy based on data measured from the bridge. Classification accuracy showed a steady trend for low (1-1.75 m/s) and high vehicle speeds (2-2.75 m/s), with a decrease of about 7% for the latter. These results show promise towards a highly mobile structural health bridge monitoring system for wide and cost-effective bridge stock coverage.
Regional Equilibrium and Migration Patterns in the Americas 1960-2005
Hernan Enriquez Sierra,Jacobo Campo Robledo 한국라틴아메리카학회 2013 라틴아메리카연구 Vol.26 No.4
This paper analyzes the migration dynamics in the Americas from 1960 to 2005 using an equilibrium approach. The migration flow is evaluated using spatial econometrics techniques and controlling for the labor mobility effect and regional wages. Additionally, the estimated model looks for variations in migration by taking into account the distinctive population features in each country, namely the working age population, unemployment rate and relative wages. The estimated model shows that the spatial equilibrium related to net migration is negatively affected by wages and positively influenced by labor supply in the region.
