The resistant Korean red pines(Pinus densiflora) to pine gall midge (Thecodiplosis japonensis) were selected at the heavily infested pine forests in Kyung Gi area. The investigations, for the preliminary studies, on growth habit of the resistant selection, ovipositional preferance, rate of infestation, rate of gall formation and larval development, were carried out during the period from March to August 1980. The elongation of newly emerged shoots and needles of the resistant selection were more vigorous than that of the contrast susceptible plants. However, there were no significant difference on the ovipositional preferance between resistant or susceptible plants. Out of 20 selected plants, one outstanding individual(SN-D-2) showed reduced infestation rate and gall formation rate. And also this specific seemed to inhibit the larval development.

In the present investigation, cytological and genetical research on the F₁hybrid between Triticum aestivum (Chokwang and Jugoku #81) and Secale cereale (Jaelae rye) were carried out. Twenty eight chromosomes were observed in both of the mitotic and meiotic cells of the F₁ hybrid. The chromosomal behaviour of the mitotic cells were considered to be regular but irregular chromosomal orientations were apeared in the meiotic cells. The chromosomes both origin were distributed at random and a high frequency of the chromosome bridges were observed in Anaphase I. Also the micronuclei were observed in 39.5-41.7% of the pollen tetrad.
