희토류원소중의 하나인 Eu은 자연계에서 2가, 3가와 같이 2개의 산화수를 갖고 있고, 아울러 두개의 동위원소(<SUP>151</SUP>Eu, <SUP>153</SUP>Eu)만을 갖고 있다. 그리고 운석으로 규격화한 암석내 희토류원소 분포도는 화성암의 진화사 즉 분화도를 이해하기위한 중요한 인자 중의 하나이다. 그리고 고분화 화강암 중 일부는 그 함량을 원시운석으로 규격화하였을 때 ‘희토류원소의 테트라드 효과’라 불리우는 독특한 희토류원소 분포도와 더불어 Eu의 부(-)의 이상이 매우 큰 지구화학적 특징을 보여준다. 최근 Lee and Tanaka (2019, 2021a)는 희토류원소 중의 하나인 Eu의 안정동위원소의 새로운 분석법의 개발과 더불어 토대로 분화된 화강암에서의 Eu 동위원소의 분별작용을 보고하였다(2021B). 이 발표에서는 고분화 화강암과 분화도가 크지 않은 화강암에서의 희토류원소 분포도의 특성과 Eu 동위원소비의 차이(즉 동위원소 분별작용)을 활용하여, 희토류원소 테트라드 효과의 발달정도-화강암질 마그마의 분화도-Eu의 이상의 크기 변화 그리고 Eu 동위원소 분별작용의 발생도를 비교함으로써 희토류원소의 테트라드 효과의 형성과정과 Eu의 부(-)의 이상의 형성과정의 선후관계에 대해 토의하고자 한다. Aerodynamic and Flow Characteristics of Tall Buildings with Various Unconventional Configurations

Tall buildings have been traditionally designed to be symmetric rectangular, triangular or circular in plan, in order to avoid excessive seismic-induced torsional vibrations due to eccentricity, especially in seismic-prone regions like Japan. However, recent tall building design has been released from the spell of compulsory symmetric shape design, and free-style design is increasing. This is mainly due to architects' and structural designers' challenging demands for novel and unconventional expressions. Another important aspect is that rather complicated sectional shapes are basically good with regard to aerodynamic properties for crosswind excitations, which are a key issue in tall-building wind-resistant design. A series of wind tunnel experiments and numerical simulation have been carried out to determine aerodynamic forces and wind pressures acting on tall building models with various configurations: corner cut, setbacks, helical and so on. Dynamic wind-induced response analyses of these models have also been conducted. The results of these experiments have led to comprehensive understanding of the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings with various configurations.
Growth of $La_{2-x}$$Sr_x$Cu$O_4$Single Crystals for Device Application

We had succeeded to grow bulk sing1e crystals of La/sub 2-x/Sr/sub x/$CuO_4$by the traveling solvent floating zone method (TSFZ), and to prepare La/sub 2-x/Sr/sub x/CuO$_4$single-crystalline thick films on the Zn-doped La$_2$$CuO_4$ substrate by new liquid phase epitaxial technique using an infrared heating furnace (IR-LPE). In this paper, Ireview growth of bulk single crystals and single-crystalline thick films of La/sub 2-x/Sr/sub x/$CuO_4$, and discuss on their device properties to develop high speed integrated electronic devices.
Construction of Kobe′s World Cup Venue and the Development of an Urban Resort

The usual definition of and urban resort was a place vastly different from places of daily life such as a theme park or other tourist destination. At the same time, revival of the combination of usual and unusual spaces, in a way like the mixed "Hare"(Special occasion of public event) and "Ke"(Daily life) spaces of communities of old Japan, is part of the idea of urban resorts. And they are places, which start by making a comfortable urban environment for citizens, providing a daily life full of culture and promoting a city′s identity to visitors. if we think about the kinds of structural elements of urban resorts, the usual elements include community, local culture and industry, while the unusual elements include symbols, festivities and interaction. Kobe Wing Stadium is a venue for the 2002 FIFA World Cup hosted by Korea and Japan. The city will build the stadium, but after construction management will be given over to private enterprise, hoping to utilize that sector′s business know how. A competition was held to determine the private executor who would be entrusted with the planning, design, construction and management of the project, considering the conditions of the area, the stadium′s relationship to it and local revitalization. The competition was won by a private enterprise (Kobe Steel Obayashi Group). The them of "Creation of a Sports Community Park" grapples with the large issue of the facility′s relationship with the community. American geographer Yi-fu Tuan coined the word "topophilia" to indicate love of a place. No other word could better describe the desired urban resort nature of the stadium. From this historical perspective it seems that stadiums have great potential as urban resorts. The factor that will determine their success is the attitude of citizens toward them, in short whether they develop topophilia for them or not. We examined the urban resort nature of Kobe Wing Stadium. Regarding daily life, we saw the attempts to revive the local community, the possibility of deepening the local culture and the weakened state of local industry. As a place that is for more than daily life, we saw the certainty of the stadium′s symbolism, its potential as a place for festivities and the test it will face as a space for interaction. Even though several issues are left for future resolution, evaluating Kobe Wing Stadium through these elements of an urban resort, it is clearly founded in the daily life of the community while providing a venue for "Hare"occasions. Fulfilling the roles of an urban resort, it provides many opportunities for local residents to enjoy their and gives visitors a reason to come repeatedly.

We have investigated effects of the lattice mismatch between the LPE films and the substrates. We have grown $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}$(x=0.1 to 0.15) single crystalline films on single crystalline substrates having different lattice parameter ratio c/a e.g., $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}Cu_{1-y}Zn_{y}O_{4},\;La_{2-x}Ba_{x}CuO_{4},\; LaSrAlO_{4}\;and\;La_{2-x}Sr_{x}Cu_{1-y}Al_{y}O_{4}$ etc., using the IR-LPE technique. The superconducting properties of the grown films were found to vary significantly depending on the lattice mismatch with different substrates.

<P>Concise total synthesis of bilobol 5-pentadecenylresorcinol (1), isolated from Gingko biloba fruits, has been achieved in 10 steps with 51% overall yield from 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (3). Adipostatin A (2), isolated from the fruits as well as from Streptomyces cyaneus 2299-SV1, has also been synthesized in two steps from methylated bilobol (10). The structure-activity relationship study of synthetic products was described by means of cytotoxic assay against human KB carcinoma cell lines.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The uptake of nutrients, including metals, amino acids and peptides are required for many biological processes. Pathogenic bacteria scavenge these essential nutrients from microenvironments to survive within the host. Pathogens must utilize a myriad of mechanisms to acquire these essential nutrients from the host while mediating the effects of toxicity. Bacteria utilize several transport proteins, including <U>A</U>TP-<U>b</U>inding <U>c</U>assette (ABC) transporters to import and expel substrates. ABC transporters, conserved across all organisms, are powered by the energy from ATP to move substrates across cellular membranes. In this review, we will focus on nutrient uptake, the role of ABC importers at the host–pathogen interface, and explore emerging therapies to combat pathogenesis.
