• Polyakov loops and the Hosotani mechanism on the lattice

        Cossu, Guido,Noaki, Jun-Ichi,Hatanaka, Hisaki,Hosotani, Yutaka American Physical Society 2014 PHYSICAL REVIEW D - Vol.89 No.9

We explore the phase structure and symmetry breaking in four-dimensional SU(3) gauge theory with one spatial compact dimension on the lattice (16(3) x 4 lattice) in the presence of fermions in the adjoint representation with periodic boundary conditions. We estimate numerically the density plots of the Polyakov loop eigenvalues phases, which reflect the location of minima of the effective potential in the Hosotani mechanism. We find strong indications that the four phases found on the lattice correspond to SU(3)-confined, SU(3)-deconfined, SU(2) x U(1), and U(1) x U(1) phases predicted by the one-loop perturbative calculation. The case with fermions in the fundamental representation with general boundary conditions, equivalent to the case of imaginary chemical potentials, is also found to support the Z(3) symmetry breaking in the effective potential analysis.

      • Stable Higgs bosons as cold dark matter

        Hosotani, Yutaka,Ko, Pyungwon,Tanaka, Minoru Elsevier 2009 Physics letters: B Vol.680 No.2

Abstract

In a class of the gauge–Higgs unification models the 4D neutral Higgs boson, which is a part of the extra-dimensional component of the gauge fields, becomes absolutely stable as a consequence of the gauge invariance and dynamically generated new parity, serving as a promising candidate for cold dark matter (CDM). We show that the observed relic abundance of cold dark matter is obtained in the SO(5)×U(1) model in the warped space with the Higgs mass around 70 GeV. The Higgs–nucleon scattering cross section is found to be close to the current CDMS II and XENON10 bounds in the direct detection of dark matter.

Study on High Pressure Design of Contra-Rotating Small Hydroturbine

        Takuji Hosotani,Toru Shigemitsu,Yuki Kawaguchi,Tomofumi Ikebuchi,Takeru Ishiguro 한국유체기계학회 2019 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.12 No.4

It is requested that the hydroturbine be a small size and have high performance. Therefore, we adopted contra-rotating rotors, which can be expected to achieve radial compactification and high performance. However, when the rotors become smaller, the output power of conventional contra-rotating rotors, which are composed of axial flow rotors, is low. In order to achieve small size, high performance and high output power simultaneously, we propose a new type of contra-rotating rotors, which are composed of a hybrid rotor and a centrifugal rotor. In the present paper, we focus on deflection angle of the hydroturbine composed of these rotors as a first step of this research, and investigate performance by the numerical analysis. As a result, we clarified that there is a possibility that even a negative deflection angle functions as a hydroturbine unlike the conventional contra-rotating rotors and leads to best performance.

Influence of Number of Blades on Performance and Internal Flow of High Head Contra-Rotating Small Hydroturbine

        Takuji Hosotani,Toru Shigemitsu,Yuki Kawaguchi,Takuya Inamoto,Takeru Ishiguro,Ding Nan 한국유체기계학회 2020 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.13 No.4

It is requested that the hydroturbine be a small size and have high performance. Therefore, we adopted contrarotating rotors, which can be expected to achieve radial compactification and high performance. However, a conventional contra-rotating rotor was composed of two axial flow rotors, so it had a specification suitable for high flow rate and low head. In order to achieve a small hydroturbine suitable for low flow rate and high head, we propose new type of contra-rotating rotors, which are composed of a hybrid rotor and a centrifugal rotor. In the present paper, we focus on the number of blades of the hydroturbine composed of these rotors as a first step of this research, and investigate performance by numerical analysis. As a result, it clarifies that the head of the front rotor is lowered due to the slip of the flow, and it has been confirmed that increasing the number of blades can suppress the slip of flow and improve the turbine head and the shaft power. Also, it clarifies that the shaft power of the rear rotor was almost unchanged even if the number of blades is changed, and that the meridional plane shape has a greater effect on the performance than the number of blades.

      • LHC signals of theSO(5)×U(1)gauge-Higgs unification

        Funatsu, Shuichiro,Hatanaka, Hisaki,Hosotani, Yutaka,Orikasa, Yuta,Shimotani, Takuya American Physical Society 2014 PHYSICAL REVIEW D - Vol.89 No.9

Signatures of the SO(5) x U(1) gauge-Higgs unification at LHC and future colliders are explored. The Kaluza-Klein (KK) mass spectra of.; Z; Z(R) and the Higgs self-couplings obey universality relations with the Aharonov-Bohm phase theta(H) in the fifth dimension. The current data at low energies and at LHC indicate theta(H) < 0.2. Couplings of quarks and leptons to KK gauge bosons are determined. Three neutral gauge bosons, the first KK modes Z(R)((1)), Z((1)), and gamma((1)), appear as Z' bosons in dilepton events at LHC. For theta(H) = 0.114, the mass and decay width of Z(R)((1)), Z((1)), and gamma((1))are (5.73, 482), (6.07, 342), and (6.08 TeV, 886 GeV), respectively. For theta(H) = 0.073 their masses are 8.00 similar to 8.61 TeV. An excess of events in the dilepton invariant mass should be observed in the Z' search at the upgraded LHC at 14 TeV.

Field Test of Contra-Rotating Small Hydroturbine

        Toru Shigemitsu,Takumi Omori,Yuya Hiraishi,Takashi Tsuda,Takayuki Kawanami,Kenji Hiranuma,Takuji Hosotani,Ding Nan 한국유체기계학회 2023 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.16 No.2

The contra-rotating small hydroturbine can be applied to pipelines of agricultural water and for farming river fishes. In the previous research, the advantages of the contra-rotating small hydroturbine were verified by the numerical analysis and experimental apparatus of our lab. The diameter of our test model was small as 58mm and it have to be scaled up to apply it to the actual case of a pipeline for farming river fishes. Therefore, we made the diameter of our test model larger, which is suitable for the pipeline for farming river fishes. The numerical analysis was conducted to check the power of the large-scale model for the pipeline. Furthermore, the parameter study related to the solidity, blade number and setting angle, was conducted to increase the power of the hydroturbine using the numerical analysis. After that, the suitable impeller for the field test was chosen and an experimental apparatus for the field test was established. The power generation at different flow rate conditions was measured by the experiment and the stability of the experimental apparatus; leakage flow from the mechanical seal, vibration, noise of the turbine, was checked in the field test. In this paper, our developing process of the contra-rotating small hydroturbine is shown and the prospect to apply our test turbine for the pipelines is discussed based on the numerical analysis and field test results.
