Two New Species in the Family Cunninghamellaceae from China

        ( Heng Zhao ),( Jing Zhu ),( Tong-kai Zong ),( Xiao-ling Liu ),( Li-ying Ren ),( Qing Lin ),( Min Qiao ),( Yong Nie ),( Zhi-dong Zhang ),( Xiao-yong Liu ) 한국균학회 2021 Mycobiology Vol.49 No.2

The species within the family Cunninghamellaceae are widely distributed and produce important metabolites. Morphological studies along with a molecular phylogeny based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (LSU) of ribosomal DNA revealed two new species in this family from soils in China, that is, Absidia ovalispora sp. nov. and Cunninghamella globospora sp. nov. The former is phylogenetically closely related to Absidia koreana, but morphologically differs in sporangiospores, sporangia, sporangiophores, columellae, collars, and rhizoids. The latter is phylogenetically closely related to Cunninghamella intermedia, but morphologically differs in sporangiola and colonies. They were described and illustrated.

Relaxed Stability Condition and State Feedback H∞ Controller Design for T-S Fuzzy Systems

        Xiao-Heng Chang,Guang-Hong Yang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2009 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.7 No.1

In this paper, a fuzzy Lyapunov approach is presented for stability analysis and state feedback H∞ controller design for T-S fuzzy systems. A new stability condition is obtained by relaxing the ones derived in previous papers. Then, a set of LMI-based sufficient conditions which can guarantee the existence of state feedback H∞ controller for T-S fuzzy systems is proposed. In comparison with the existing literature, the proposed approach not only provides more relaxed stability conditions but also ensures better H∞ performance. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is shown through two numerical examples.

H_∞ Controller Design for Linear Systems with Time-invariant Uncertainties

        Xiao-Heng Chang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2011 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.9 No.2

This paper considers the problem of designing robust H_∞ state feedback controller for linear continuous-time systems with time-invariant uncertainties. The main result given here concerns H_∞ controller design using the parameter dependent Lyapunov function approach and a new control law. A new condition ensuring the linear systems to be is asymptotically stable with a prescribed H_∞ performance is proposed in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Theoretic proof is given to show that the proposed condition is less conservative than existing results in the literature. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

      • Quantized Static Output Feedback Control For Discrete-Time Systems

        Chang, Xiao-Heng,Xiong, Jun,Li, Zhi-Min,Park, Ju H. IEEE 2018 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL INFORMATICS - Vol.14 No.8

<P>This paper investigates the problem of output feedback control for discrete-time systems with two quantized signals in measurement output and control input. Since the measurement output and control input are quantized by general quantizers before they are passed to the controller and the system, the closed-loop system will include the quantization error terms, which might lead to that the performance of the closed-loop system is not guaranteed. For this purpose, this paper proposes a novel quantized output control strategy such that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable or satisfies the prescribed <TEX>$\mathcal {H}_\infty$</TEX> performance. The corresponding design conditions for the output feedback controllers and the quantizers’ dynamic parameters are presented in terms of solutions to a set of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is given to prove the effectiveness of the proposed design method.</P>

Fuzzy Resilient Energy-to-Peak Filtering for Continuous-Time Nonlinear Systems

Chang, Xiao-Heng,Park, Ju H.,Shi, Peng Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2017 IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Vol. No.

<P>The problem of resilient energy-to-peak filtering for a class of uncertain continuous-time nonlinear systems is investigated in this paper. A Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy model with norm-bounded uncertainties is used to represent the nonlinear plant. Attention is focused on the design of an energy-to-peak filter such that the filtering error system is asymptotically stable and the prescribed energy-to-peak filtering performance is guaranteed, where the designed filter is assumed to have additive gain variations. The proposed design is aimed at all filter matrices with gain variations, which improves the existing results on resilient energy-to-peak filtering for continuous-time systems. A simulation example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.</P>

      • Association Between XPD Asp312Asn Polymorphism and Esophageal Cancer Susceptibility: A Meta-analysis

        Duan, Xiao-Li,Gong, Heng,Zeng, Xian-Tao,Ni, Xiao-Bing,Yan, Yan,Chen, Wen,Liu, Guo-Lei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.7

Objective: To investigate the association between xeroderma pigmentosum group D (XPD) Asp312Asn polymorphism and esophageal cancer (EC) susceptibility by meta-analysis. Methods: We searched PubMed up to April 9th, 2012, to identify relevant papers, and 8 published case-control studies including 2165 EC patients and 3141 healthy controls were yielded. Odds ratios (ORs) with relevant 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied to assess the association between XPD Asp312Asn polymorphism and EC susceptibility with the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software, version 2.2. Results: Overall, the meta-analysis results suggested the XPD Asp312Asn polymorphism to be significantly associated with EC susceptibility [(Asn/Asn+Asp/Asn) vs. Asp/Asp: OR=1.20, 95%CI=1.05-1.36, p=0.01; and Asp/Asn vs. Asp/Asp: OR=1.15, 95%CI =1.01-1.31, p=0.04]. In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity and cancer type, significantly associations were found for Caucasian populations [(Asn/Asn+Asp/Asn) vs. Asp/Asp: OR=1.26, 95%CI =1.08-1.47, p<0.001; Asp/Asn vs. Asp/Asp: OR=1.19, 95%CI =1.02-1.40, p=0.03] and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma [(Asn/Asn+Asp/Asn) vs. Asp/Asp: OR=1.19, 95%CI=1.01-1.41, p=0.04]. There was no heterogeneity and no publication bias existed. Conclusions: This meta-analysis shows that the XPD Asp312Asn polymorphism may be a risk factor for developing EC, especially for Caucasian populations and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

      • Increased Serotonin Signaling Contributes to the Warburg Effect in Pancreatic Tumor Cells Under Metabolic Stress and Promotes Growth of Pancreatic Tumors in Mice

        Jiang, Shu-Heng,Li, Jun,Dong, Fang-Yuan,Yang, Jian-Yu,Liu, De-Jun,Yang, Xiao-Mei,Wang, Ya-Hui,Yang, Min-Wei,Fu, Xue-Liang,Zhang, Xiao-Xin,Li, Qing,Pang, Xiu-Feng,Huo, Yan-Miao,Li, Jiao,Zhang, Jun-Feng Elsevier 2017 Gastroenterology Vol.153 No.1

<P><B>Background & Aims</B></P> <P>Desmoplasia and poor vascularity cause severe metabolic stress in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs). Serotonin (5-HT) is a neuromodulator with neurotransmitter and neuroendocrine functions that contributes to tumorigenesis. We investigated the role of 5-HT signaling in the growth of pancreatic tumors.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>We measured the levels of proteins that regulate 5-HT synthesis, packaging, and degradation in pancreata from KrasG12D/+/Trp53R172H/+/Pdx1-Cre (KPC) mice, which develop pancreatic tumors, as well as in PDAC cell lines and a tissue microarray containing 81 human PDAC samples. We also analyzed expression levels of proteins involved in 5-HT synthesis and degradation by immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray containing 311 PDAC specimens, and associated expression levels with patient survival times. 5-HT level in 14 matched PDAC tumor and non-tumor tissues were analyzed by ELISA. PDAC cell lines were incubated with 5-HT and cell survival and apoptosis were measured. We analyzed expression of the 5-HT receptor HTR2B in PDAC cells and effects of receptor agonists and antagonists, as well as HTR2B knockdown with small hairpin RNAs. We determined the effects of 5-HT stimulation on gene expression profiles of BxPC-3 cells. Regulation of glycolysis by 5-HT signaling via HTR2B was assessed by immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation analyses, as well as by determination of the extracellular acid ratio, glucose consumption, and lactate production. Primary PDACs, with or without exposure to SB204741 (a selective antagonist of HTR2B), were grown as xenograft tumors in mice, and SB204741 was administered to tumor-bearing KPC mice; tumor growth and metabolism were measured by imaging analyses.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>In immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray of PDAC specimens, increased levels of TPH1 and decreased level of MAOA, which regulate 5-HT synthesis and degradation, correlated with stage and size of PDACs and shorter patient survival time. We found levels of 5-HT to be increased in human PDAC tissues compared with non-tumor pancreatic tissues, and PDAC cell lines compared with non-transformed pancreatic cells. Incubation of PDAC cell lines with 5-HT increased proliferation and prevented apoptosis. Agonists of HTR2B, but not other 5-HT receptors, promoted proliferation and prevented apoptosis of PDAC cells. Knockdown of HTR2B in PDAC cells, or incubation of cells with HTR2B inhibitors, reduced their growth as xenograft tumors in mice. We observed a correlation between 5-HT and glycolytic flux in PDAC cells; levels of metabolic enzymes involved in glycolysis, the phosphate pentose pathway, and hexosamine biosynthesis pathway increased significantly in PDAC cells following 5-HT stimulation. 5-HT stimulation led to formation of the HTR2B–LYN–p85 complex, which increased PI3K–Akt–mTOR signaling and the Warburg effect by increasing protein levels of MYC and HIF1A. Administration of SB204741 to KPC mice slowed growth and metabolism of established pancreatic tumors and prolonged survival of the mice.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Human PDACs have increased levels of 5-HT, and PDAC cells increase expression of its receptor, HTR2B. These increases allow for tumor glycolysis under metabolic stress and promote growth of pancreatic tumors and PDAC xenograft tumors in mice.</P>

      • A new algorithm of abstracting numeric image outline

        Xiao-Feng Shang,Xue-Heng Tao,Xin Zhao,Jin-Shi Lu 한국멀티미디어학회 2006 한국멀티미디어학회 국제학술대회 Vol.2006 No.-

A new algorithm based on iterative-dynamic algorithm and edge detection algorithm has been formulated in this paper. In the experiment, the binary image was first introduced by iterative-dynamic threshold algorithm, which had a good performance in restraining noise. Gauss filter was then applied to the binary image in order to eliminate some false edge pixels; statistic and differential coefficient methods were used for calculating the grads-in-image of scope and direction. The object edge was hereby detected and abstracted by using double threshold. Compared with traditional edge abstraction algorithm, the algorithm is advanced in solving the main problem that traditional edge abstraction was in the face of. By reason of using iterative-dynamic algorithm in the first step, it has perfect quality in restraining variety of disturbing factor, like random noise, optic distortion, light intensity and so on. Due to the application of statistic and differential coefficient, the perfect outcome was realized. The results of experiments have indicated that the edge of complex image can be precisely abstracted and the drawbacks of traditional edge detection algorithm can be thoroughly overcome by means of this method.

Estimation of the Number of Sources Based on Hypothesis Testing

Xiao, Manlin,Wei, Ping,Tai, Heng-Ming The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2012 Journal of communications and networks Vol.14 No.5

Accurate and efficient estimation of the number of sources is critical for providing the parameter of targets in problems of array signal processing and blind source separation among other such problems. When conventional estimators work in unfavorable scenarios, e.g., at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), with a small number of snapshots, or for sources with a different strength, it is challenging to maintain good performance. In this paper, the detection limit of the minimum description length (MDL) estimator and the signal strength required for reliable detection are first discussed. Though a comparison, we analyze the reason that performances of classical estimators deteriorate completely in unfavorable scenarios. After discussing the limiting distribution of eigenvalues of the sample covariance matrix, we propose a new approach for estimating the number of sources which is based on a sequential hypothesis test. The new estimator performs better in unfavorable scenarios and is consistent in the traditional asymptotic sense. Finally, numerical evaluations indicate that the proposed estimator performs well when compared with other traditional estimators at low SNR and in the finite sample size case, especially when weak signals are superimposed on the strong signals.
