Effect of dissolved oxygen/nZVI/persulfate process on the elimination of 4-chlorophenol from aqueous solution: Modeling and optimization study

        Mansour Baziar,Ramin Nabizadeh,Amir Hossein Mahvi,Mahmood Alimohammadi,Kazem Naddafi,Alireza Mesdaghinia,Hassan Aslani 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.5

4-Chlorophenol (4-CP) is a hazardous and toxic chemical that enters into water bodies mainly through industrial effluents. The present study investigated the effect of under pressure dissolved oxygen on 4-CP degradation in the presence of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) and sodium persulfate. The impact of oxygen pressure, as a qualitative variable at three levels (1, 1.5 and 2 atm), along with five quantitative variables, including persulfate concentration (0-2mM), nZVI dosage (0-1 g/L), pH (3-11), reaction time (5-90min) and 4-CP concentration (50-500mg/L) on the 4-CP elimination from aqueous solutions, was examined using response surface methodology. There was a direct relationship between the dissolved oxygen under pressure and the 4-CP removal efficiency. Also, the gained R2 and adjusted R2 for three developed models of 1, 1.5 and 2 atm oxygen pressure were 0.971 and 0.9569, 0.9689 and 0.9538, and 0.9642 and 0.9468, respectively. The best removal process conditions for pH 4.2, 1.6mM persulfate, 64.79 min reaction time, 97.89mg/L initial 4-CP and 1 g/L nZVI dosage. The results indicated that dissolved oxygen under pressure- nZVI-persulfate could be considered a promising process for elimination of organic compounds from aqueous solutions.

Comparison of nano/micro lead, bismuth and tungsten on the gamma shielding properties of the flexible composites against photon in wide energy range (40 keV – 662 keV)

        Mansour Asgari,Hossein Afarideh,Hassan Ghafoorifard,Eskandar Asadi Amirabadi 한국원자력학회 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.12

In the radiation protection application, the metal-polymer composites have been developed for theirradiation shielding properties. In this research, the elastomer composites doped by 10 mm and100nm sizeof lead, bismuth and tungsten particles as filler with 30 and 60 wt percentages were prepared. To surveythe shielding properties of the polymer composites using gamma-ray emitted from 152Eu and 137Cssources, the gamma flux was measured by using NaI(Tl) detector, then the linear attenuation coefficientwas calculated. Also, the Monte Carlo simulation (MCs) method was used. The results showed a directrelationship between the linear attenuation coefficients of the absorbent and filler ratio. Also, thedecrease in the particle size of the shielding material in each weight percentage improved the radiationshielding features. When the dimension of the particles was in the order of nano-size, more attenuationwas achieved. At low energies used for medical diagnostic X-ray applications due to the predominance ofthe photoelectric effect, bismuth and lead were suitable selection as filler.

      • L-Arginine Ameliorates Kidney Function and Urinary Bladder Sensitivity in Experimentally-induced Renal Dysfunction in Rats

Mansour, Mahmoud A.,Al-Shabanah, Othman A.,El-Khashef, Hassan A. Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 2003 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.36 No.4

Effects of L-arginine and NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) on the renal dysfunction that is induced by cisplatin (CDDP) were investigated. A single dose of CDDP (7.5 mg/kg i.p.) induced renotoxicity, which was manifested by increasing the sensitivity of isolated urinary bladder rings to acetylcholine (ACh), together with a significant elevation of serum urea and creatinine, and a severe decrease in serum albumin. Moreover, renal dysfunction was further confirmed by a significant decrease of enzyme activities, such as glutathione peroxidase, GSH-Px (E.C 1.11.1.9), catalase (E.C 1.11.1.6), as well as a significant increase in lipid peroxides that were measured as malondialdhyde (MDA) in kidney tissue homogenates. The administration of L-arginine (70 mg/kg/d p.o in drinking water 5 d before and 5 d after the CDDP injection) significantly ameliorated the renotoxic effects of CDDP, as judged by restoring the normal responses of isolated bladder rings to Ach, and also by an improvement in a range of renal function indices, which included serum urea and creatinine concentrations and kidney weight. In addition, L-arginine prevents the rise of MDA, as well as a reduction of GSH-Px and catalase activities in kidney tissues homogenates. On the other hand, the administration of L-NAME (4 mg/kg/d p.o) resulted in no protection against renal dysfunction that was induced by CDDP treatment. The findings of this study suggest that L-arginine can attenuate kidney injury that is produced by CDDP treatment. In addition, L-arginine may be a beneficial remedy for CDDP-induced renal toxicity, and could be used to improve the therapeutic index of CDDP.

The Effect of Financial Liberalization on Economic Growth: The Case of Egypt and Saudi Arabia

Hoda MANSOUR,Soliman HASSAN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.11

Theoretically, economic growth necessitates financial liberalization. Thus, the current research examines the effect of financial liberalization on economic growth in emerging nations, with a particular focus on Egypt and Saudi Arabia. To determine this effect, the study employs a model that uses Gross Domestic Product growth as the dependent variable and the following macroeconomic variables as financial liberalization indices: Broad money as a percentage of GDP, Domestic bank credit to the private sector as a percentage of GDP, Monetary sector credit to the private sector as a percentage of GDP, Net inflows of foreign direct investment as a percentage of GDP. All data is annual data of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the period 1970–2018 obtained from the World Bank open data website. The empirical investigation employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach. The findings indicate that, after more than three decades of implementation, both countries’ financial and external liberalization policies do not have a favorable effect on their economies’ growth rates. Additionally, this study has led us to conclude that any financial liberalization policy in both countries must be preceded by the strengthening of these countries’ financial development and institutional frameworks, as well as the achievement of macroeconomic stability.

Linkage of Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Phosphate in Serum: Phosphate and Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 Reduction by Increasing Dose of Sevelamer

        Amir Ghorbanihaghjo,Hassan Argani,Zahra Golmohamadi,Nadereh Rashtchizadeh,Mehran Mesgari Abbasi,Nasrin Bargahi,Amir Mansour Vatankhah,Davoud Sanajou 대한골대사학회 2018 대한골대사학회지 Vol.25 No.3

Background: High serum phosphate and fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) levels are well-recognized independent risk factors of mortality and morbidity in patients with chronic kidney diseases (CKDs). Sevelamer, as a phosphate chelating agent, reduces serum phosphate and FGF-23 levels produced by bone osteocytes. This study aimed to determine the best dose at which sevelamer could successfully reduce serum phosphate and FGF-23 levels in rat models of adenine-induced CKD. Methods: CKD was induced using adenine. Healthy and CKD-induced rats were divided into 6 groups as follows: healthy controls; CKD controls; rats treated with 1%, 2%, and 3% sevelamer for CKDs; and healthy rats administered 3% sevelamer. Biochemical factors and serum FGF-23 levels were measured using spectrophotometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods. Results: Serum phosphate levels were best decreased in rats receiving 3% sevelamer in their diet (5.91±1.48 mg/dL vs. 8.09±1.70 mg/dL, P<0.05) compared with the CKD control rats. A dose-dependent decrease in serum FGF-23 levels was observed, and the most significant results were obtained in rats receiving 3% sevelamer compared with the CKD control rats (142.60±83.95 pg/mL vs. 297.15±131.10 pg/mL, P<0.01). Conclusions: Higher sevelamer doses significantly reduced serum phosphate and FGF-23 levels in adenine-induced CKD rats.

Efficacy of Maxforce and Avion gel baits containing fipronil, clothianidin, and indoxacarb against the German cockroach (Blattella germanica)

        Behroz DAVARI,Susan KASHANI,Hassan NASIRIAN,Mansour NAZARI,Aref SALEHZADEH 한국곤충학회 2018 Entomological Research Vol.48 No.6

The present study evaluated the efficacy of Maxforce gel baits containing 0.01% fipronil (Maxforce), 0.05% fipronil (Maxforce Magnum), 1.0% clothianidin (Maxforce Impact), and 0.6% indoxacarb (Avion gel bait; all from Bayer Environmental Science, Clayton, CA, USA) against reference and wild strains (Mobasher, Andisheh, Tamin‐e Ejtemaei, and Maskoni) of German cockroach collected in 2016. Test design and bait placement were according to World Health Organization (WHO) procedures for efficacy achieving a 95% mortality rate. Although cockroaches fed on all gel baits, gel baits containing clothianidin and indoxacarb were eaten at higher rates than gel baits containing 0.01% and 0.05% fipronil. The cumulative mortality rates reached 100% for all cockroach strains at 32, 28, 28 and 40 h after eating baits containing 0.01% fipronil, 0.05% fipronil, clothianidin, and indoxacarb, respectively. Efficacy (a 95% mortality rate) after exposure (consumption) of gel baits containing 0.05% fipronil and clothianidin was seen after 28 h, compared with 32 h for 0.01% fipronil and 40 h for indoxacarb. In conclusion, commercial gel baits have improved and may be more effective than spray formulations against German cockroaches.

      • Liver Cancer Stem Cell Induction from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

        ( Said M Afify ),( Ghmkin Hassan ),( Hend M Nawara ),( Hager M Mansour ),( Amira Osman ),( Sadia Monzur ),( Hagar Ali Abu Quora ),( Maram H Zahra ),( Akimasa Seno ),( Yoshiaki Iwasaki ),( Masaharu Sen 대한간학회 2020 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2020 No.1

Aims: Liver cancer stem cells represent a small fraction of cells in liver cancer tissues so that studying these cells is very hard. Generation of liver cancer stem cells considered as one of the most important issue in cancer biology research. For this reason, we tried to generate liver cancer stem cells from induced pluripotent stem (iPSCs). Methods: First of all, CM was collected from confluent culture of Huh7 cells. Then, mouse iPSCs cells without MEF feeder cells were cultured in the presence of 50% CM for 4 weeks. The medium was changed every day with fresh medium containing 50% of CM. Mouse iPSCs cultured is the complete medium with LIF were used as a control. The survived cells (5x105 cells) were suspended in HBSS and injected into the liver of BALB/ c nude mice. After 25 days malignant tumor was formed in the liver while benign teratoma was formed by the injection of iPSCs. Tumors were then excised and partly fixed in 10% neutral formalin buffer solution for HE staining and immunohistochemical analysis. The rest of tumors were subjected to rt-qPCR anaylsis and primary culture. Results: Immunohistochemical analysis with liver cancer associated markers and cancer stem cell marker showed that malignant liver tumor was developed. These results indicate that the primary cells from the malignant tumor are rich in CSCs. Conclusions: This model will be very important and useful to assess the significant molecular mechanisms necessary to maintain liver cancer stem cells, which will help in defat liver cancer.
