Web Crippling Behaviour of Cold-formed Steel Sections with Single Web
Ben Young,Gregory J. Hancock 한국강구조학회 2005 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.5 No.1
crippling behaviour of cold-formed steel channels with comparatively stocky webs subjected to four diferent loading conditionsis described in this paper. The flanges of the channels were either unrestrained (unfastened) or restrained (fastened) to bearingplates. The test strengths were compared with the design strengths obtained using the American Specification, North AmericanSpecification and Australian/New Zealand Standard for cold-formed steel structures. It is shown that the design strengthssections. Therefore, web cripling design equations based on a simple plastic mechanism model for chanel sections have beenproposed. It is shown that the web crippling strengths predicted by the proposed design equations are generally conservativefor chanels with comparatively stocky webs. Furthermore, tests on combined bending and web crippling is also described inthis paper. The test strengths were also compared with the design strengths obtained using the American Specification andconservative for channel sections subjected to combined bending and web cripling. Web crippling tests were also performedto simulate the floor joist members seated on a solid foundation subjected to concentrated bearing load.
