      • Genotyping of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor gamma in Iranian Patients with Helicobacter pylori Infection

Goudarzi, Hossein,Seyedjavadi, Sima Sadat,Fazeli, Maryam,Azad, Mehdi,Goudarzi, Mehdi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.13

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection as a serious problem in both adults and children can induce chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and possibly gastric cancer. The aim of the current study was to survey antibiotic resistance and also to determine influence of PPAR$\gamma$ polymorphism in patients with H. pylori infection. During an 11-month-period, 98 H. pylori isolates were collected from 104 biopsy specimens. In vitro susceptibility of H. pylori isolates to 4 antimicrobial agents metronidazole, clarithromycin, amoxicillin and tetracycline were assessed by quantitative method according to European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guideline. PPAR$\gamma$ polymorphism was determined using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay. The frequency of H. pylori infection in our study was 94.2%. In vitro susceptibility data showed that highest level of resistance was related to metronidazole (66.3%), and the majority of H. pylori isolates were highly susceptible to amoxicillin and tetracycline (94.9% and 96.9%, respectively). Genotypic frequencies were 25.5% for CC (Pro12Pro), 40.8% for GC (Pro12Ala) and 33.7% for GG (Ala12Ala). In our study, CG genotype had highest distributions among infected patients with H. pylori. The study suggests that the PPAR-$\gamma$ Pro12Ala polymorphism could be evaluated as a potential genetic marker for susceptibility to gastric cancer in the presence of H. pylori infection.

      • Identification of a Novel Cassette Array in Integron-bearing Helicobacter Pylori Strains Isolated from Iranian Patients

Goudarzi, Mehdi,Seyedjavadi, Sima Sadat,Fazeli, Maryam,Roshani, Maryam,Azad, Mehdi,Heidary, Mohsen,Navidinia, Masoumeh,Goudarzi, Hossein Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.7

Helicobacter pylori as the second most common cause of gastric cancer in the world infects approximately half of the developed countries population and 80% of the population living in developing countries. Integrons as genetic reservoirs play major roles in dissemination of antimicrobial resistance genes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report carriage of class 1 and 2 integrons and associated gene cassettes in H. pylori isolates from Iran. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Tehran among 110 patients with H. pylori infection. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) for H. pylori strains were assessed by the micro broth dilution method. Class 1 and 2 integrons were detected using PCR. In order to determine gene cassettes, amplified fragments were subjected to DNA sequencing of both amplicon strands. The prevalence of resistance to clarithromycin, metronidazole, clarithromycin, tetracycline, amoxicillin, rifampin, and levofloxacin were 68.2% (n=75), 25.5% (n=28), 24.5% (n=27), 19.1% (n=21), 18.2% (n=20) and 16.4% (n=18), respectively. Frequency of multidrug resistance among H. pylori isolates was 12.7%. Class 2 integron was detected in 50 (45.5%) and class 1 integron in 10 (9.1%) H. pylori isolates. The most predominant gene cassette arrays in class 2 integron-bearing H. pylori were included sat-era-aadA1, dfrA1-sat2-aadA1, blaoxa2 and, aadB whereas common gene cassette arrays in class 1 integron were aadB-aadA1-cmlA6, aacA4, blaoxa2, and catB3. The high frequency of class 2 integron and multidrug resistance in the present study should be considered as a warning for clinicians that continuous surveillance is necessary to prevent the further spread of resistant isolates.

Modeling wind ribs effects for numerical simulation external pressure load on a cooling tower of KAZERUN power plant-IRAN

        Goudarzi, Mohammad-Ali,Sabbagh-Yazdi, Saeed-Reza Techno-Press 2008 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.11 No.6

In this paper, computer simulation of wind flow around a single cooling tower with louver support at the base in the KAZERUN power station in south part of IRAN is presented as a case study. ANSYS FLOTRAN, an unstructured finite element incompressible flow solver, is used for numerical investigation of wind induced pressure load on a single cooling tower. Since the effects of the wind ribs on external surface of the cooling tower shell which plays important role in formation of turbulent flow field, an innovative relation is introduced for modeling the effects of wind ribs on computation of wind pressure on cooling tower's shell. The introduced relation which follows the concept of equivalent sand roughness for the wall function is used in conjunction with two equations ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model. In this work, the effects of variation in the height/spacing ratio of external wind ribs are numerically investigated. Conclusions are made by comparison between computed pressure loads on external surface of cooling tower and the VGB (German guideline for cooling tower design) suggestions.

Calculation of the Berry curvature and Chern number of topological photonic crystals

Goudarzi Kiyanoush,Maragheh Hatef Ghannadi,Lee Moonjoo 한국물리학회 2022 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.81 No.5

In this paper, numerical calculations of the Berry curvature and Chern number of two types of two-dimensional photonic crystals consisting isotropic dielectric and anisotropic magneto-optical, gyromagnetic, rods in air in a square lattice are studied. The Chern number, an integer number, is a key parameter to distinguish between trivial and non-trivial photonic crystals. Trivial and non-trivial photonic crystals reveal zero and non-zero Chern numbers. A non-zero Chern number is achieved through the breaking of time-reversal and inversion symmetries. The results for two-dimensional photonic crystals containing isotropic dielectric and gyromagnetic materials under TM mode illustrate zero and 0, 1, -2, and -1 Chern numbers for the frst four bands, respectively. The creation of non-zero Chern numbers brings a new way of designing one-way, robust to arbitrary disorder, and zero back-refection photonic components

Numerical assessment of seismic safety of liquid storage tanks and performance of base isolation system

Goudarzi, Mohammad Ali,Alimohammadi, Saeed Techno-Press 2010 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.35 No.6

Seismic isolation is a well-known method to mitigate the earthquake effects on structures by increasing their fundamental natural periods at the expense of larger displacements in the structural system. In this paper, the seismic response of isolated and fixed base vertical, cylindrical, liquid storage tanks is investigated using a Finite Element Model (FEM), taking into account fluid-structure interaction effects. Three vertical, cylindrical tanks with different ratios of height to radius (H/R = 2.6, 1.0 and 0.3) are numerically analyzed and the results of response-history analysis, including base shear, overturning moment and free surface displacement are reported for isolated and non-isolated tanks. Isolated tanks equipped by lead rubber bearings isolators and the bearing are modeled by using a non-linear spring in FEM model. It is observed that the seismic isolation of liquid storage tanks is quite effective and the response of isolated tanks is significantly influenced by the system parameters such as their fundamental frequencies and the aspect ratio of the tanks. However, the base isolation does not significantly affect the surface wave height and even it can causes adverse effects on the free surface sloshing motion.

Immunization of mice with chimeric protein-loaded aluminum hydroxide and selenium nanoparticles induces reduction of Brucella melitensis infection in mice

        Goudarzi Tahereh,Abkar Morteza,Zamanzadeh Zahra,Fasihi-Ramandi Mahdi 대한백신학회 2023 Clinical and Experimental Vaccine Research Vol.12 No.4

Purpose: Due to the many problems with commercially available vaccines, the production of effective vaccines against brucellosis is a necessity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immune responses caused by the chimeric protein consisting of trigger factor, Bp26, and Omp31 (TBO) along with aluminum hydroxide (AH/TBO) and selenium (Se/TBO) nanoparticles (NPs) as adjuvants in mouse model. Materials and Methods: Recombinant antigen expression was induced in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) bacteria using IPTG (isopropyl-d-1-thiogalactopyranoside). Purification and characterization of recombinant protein was conducted through NiFe3O4 NPs, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and Western blot. NP characteristics, including morphology and particle size, were measured in vitro. The recombinant TBO was loaded on to AH and Se NPs and were administered subcutaneously. After mice immunization, measurement of antibody titter and protection assay was performed. Results: The average sizes of AH and Se NPs were about 60 nm and 150 nm, respectively. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay results showed that the serum of mice immunized by subcutaneous injection with both nanovaccines produced significant immunoglobulin G (IgG) responses against the chimeric antigen. The results of TBO-specific IgG isotype (IgG2a/IgG1) analysis showed that both AH and Se NPs induced a type to T-helper immune response. In addition, the results of the challenge with the pathogenic strain of Brucella melitensis 16M showed that vaccinated mice with AH/TBO NPs indicated a higher reduction of bacterial culture than immunized mice with Se/TBO NPs and TBO alone. Conclusion: The results showed that AH NPs carrying chimeric antigen can be a promising vaccine candidate against brucellosis by producing protective immunity.

Inverse Design of Terahertz Optical Power Splitters Using the Particle Swarm Optimization Method

Goudarzi Kiyanoush,이한얼,김도영,박익모,한해욱 한국전자파학회 2023 Journal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science Vol.23 No.2

This letter proposes 50:50 TE terahertz power splitters based on digitized metamaterials. The components are optimized using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. The digitized metamaterials are formed as a silicon slab with circular air holes atop a silicon dioxide substrate. The insertion losses of optimized structures containing air holes with a radius of 9 μm and air holes with different radii (9 μm and 7 μm) are less than 3.9 dB and 3.65 dB, respectively, over a frequency range of 0.87–1.09 THz. The footprint of the proposed devices is 400 μm × 350 μm. The devices have excellent characteristics, such as compactness, efficiency, all-dielectric properties, and compatibility with CMOS fabrication technologies, and can become vital components of most terahertz-wave routing circuits.

A novel single wall carbon nanotubes-based sensor doped with lithium for ammonia gas detection

        F. Goudarzi 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2012 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.13 No.5

To deposit SWCNTs (single wall carbon nanotubes) on substrates and evaluate their gas sensing properties, a pair of interdigitated electrodes was made by sputtering Au on Si/SiO2. SWCNTs were first doped with lithium by heating with LiNO3 and HNO3 for 12 h. Then SWCNTs-lithium doped was well-dispersed in dimethylformamide (DMF). By using electrophoresis and applying a DC voltage, the SWCNTs were forced to deposit between the two electrodes. The deposited SWCNT on the electrodes were heat treated at 350 ο C for 5 h. with Ar to eliminate the DMF adsorbed layer. The electrical response of this sensor has been measured by exposing the films to NH3 (500 ppm) at different operating temperatures between 25 ο C to 280 ο C. The response to NH3 has been found to be a maximum at around 150 ο C and a high sensitivity of 34% was achieved.
