Assessment of Proportion of Hidden Patients Having Symptoms of Overactive Bladder and Why Has It Been Hidden in Female Outpatients Admitted to Hospital

        Oktay Üçer,Ömer Demir,Mehmet Fatih Zeren,Yasin Ceylan,İlker Çelen,Ali Ersin Zümrütbaş,Gökhan Temeltaş,Ozan Bozkurt,Bülent Günlüsoy,Orçun Çelik,Gökhan Ekin,Oğuz Mertoğlu,Aegean Study Group of Society o 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2016 International Neurourology Journal Vol.20 No.1

Purpose: To determine the proportion of patients with undetected symptoms of overactive bladder by using the overactive bladder-validated 8 (OAB-V8) screening questionnaire and investigate these symptoms were undetected in female patients who were hospitalized. Methods: We invited 2,250 female patients hospitalized in the Aegean region of Turkey to answer a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions on evidence of lower urinary tract symptoms (OAB-V8), relevant medical history, and demographic data. Patients with a total OAB-V8 score≥8 were defined as having OAB symptoms. Results: The proportion of patients with OAB symptoms in this study was 40.6%. Nearly 57% of the patients with OAB symptoms had not been previously admitted to any hospital for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The two most common reasons why women with OAB symptoms did not admit themselves to a hospital because of LUTS were as follows: “I did not think I had a disease” and “The symptoms did not bother me,” with a response rate of 74.7%. The mean OAB-V8 scores of the patients with these two responses were significantly lower than those of the other patients (P<0.001). Conclusions: This is the first study to demonstrate a significant proportion of women with undetected OAB symptoms. The main reasons the women did not admit themselves to a hospital were their unawareness of the disease and because the LUTS were not bothersome. Public awareness programs on this disease may resolve this problem.

Comparative study on crown closure estimations using two different remote sensing data: Landsat ETM + and IKONOS

Sedat KELEŞ,Alkan GÜNLÜ,Emin Zeki BAŞKENT 한국산림과학회 2012 Forest Science And Technology Vol.8 No.4

In this paper, we developed empirical relationships between crown closure and Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and IKONOS spectral response in a forest ecosystem in Turkey. The linear relationships between the crown closure and satellite images were examined and for that the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was generated for correlation analysis. Satellite images were georeferenced with respect to corresponding forest stand type maps for the same area. The digital numbers (DNs) in all bands were positively correlated with the crown closure in Landsat-7ETM image. Regarding the Landsat ETM+, the DN of NIR band (band 4) had the highest correlation coefficient value with the crown closure (r=0.715), and the DN of blue band (band 1) had the lowest correlation value with the crown closure (r=0.373) and explains 51.1% and 13.9% of data variability, respectively, in Landsat-7 ETM image. In IKONOS image, the DNs in three bands (red, green and NIR) were positively correlated with the crown closure at the level of r=0.385, r=0.359 and r=0.829, respectively. The NIR band of the Landsat-7-ETMþimage showed the highest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.886) and the red band had the lowest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.419),while the IKONOS image showed that the NIR band had the highest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.781) and the green band resulted in the lowest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.367). Results also indicated that the relationships between the crown closure and the NDVIs of Landsat-7 ETM and IKONOS were positively correlated with r=0.794and r=0.871, respectively.

The Effect of Psychological Inflexibility on Social-Distancing Phobia Mediated by Preoccupation With Sleep and Intolerance of Uncertainty in the Elderly Population During the COVID-19 Pandemic

        Seockhoon Chung,Kayoung Song,Aykut Günlü 대한신경정신의학회 2024 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.21 No.2

Objective The aim of this study was to explore whether psychological inflexibility in the elderly population is related to social-distancing phobia, and examine whether their viral anxiety, preoccupation with sleep, or intolerance of uncertainty may mediate the relationship. Methods Among the elderly population aged ≥65 in Korea, we conducted an anonymous online survey during January and February 2023. We collected the responses of 300 participants, collected demographic information, and symptoms using rating scales such as the Social-Distancing Phobia scale, Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 items (SAVE-6), Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12 (IUS-12), Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II), and Glasgow Sleep Effort Scale (GSES).Results Social-distancing phobia was expected by the SAVE-6 (β=0.34, p<0.001), IUS-12 (β=0.18, p=0.003), and GSES (β=0.18, p= 0.001) in the linear regression analysis. In the mediation analysis, psychological inflexibility did not directly influence social-distancing phobia. However, viral anxiety, intolerance of uncertainty, or preoccupation with sleep completely mediated the influence of psychological inflexibility on social-distancing phobia among elderly population. Conclusion The management of psychological inflexibility, intolerance of uncertainty, or preoccupation with sleep needs to be considered when designing interventions to address social-distancing phobia in elderly populations in future pandemics.

Intolerance of Uncertainty Mediates the Influence of Viral Anxiety on Social Distancing Phobia Among the General Korean Population During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic

        Cho Inn-Kyu,Ahmed Oli,Lee Dongin,Cho Eulah,Chung Seockhoon,Günlü Aykut 대한신경정신의학회 2022 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.19 No.9

Objective We aimed to examined the reliability and validity of Korean version of Social Distancing Phobia scale, and whether intolerance of uncertainty mediates the association of the general population’s social distancing phobia with viral anxiety and depression. Methods Through this anonymous online survey, we collected responses from 400 individuals in the general Korean population. Participants’ demographic information and rating scales scores, including the Social Distancing Phobia scale, Stress and Anxiety to Viral Epidemics-6 items, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Intolerance of Uncertainty-12 items. Results Confirmatory factor analysis showed a good model fit, and the Korean version of Social Distancing Phobia scale showed good internal consistency. Social distancing phobia was significantly correlated with age (r=0.213, p<0.001), viral anxiety (r=0.390, p<0.001), depression (r=0.244, p<0.001), and intolerance of uncertainty (r=0.323, p<0.001). A linear regression analysis showed that age (β=0.235, p<0.001), viral anxiety (β=0.281, p<0.001), depression (β=0.121, p=0.009), and intolerance of uncertainty (β=0.200, p<0.001; adjusted R2=0.246, F=33.6, p<0.001) predicted social distancing phobia. Mediation analysis revealed that viral anxiety directly influenced social distancing phobia (z=6.48, p<0.001), and intolerance of uncertainty partially mediated this association (z=2.92, p=0.003).Conclusion Social distancing phobia may cause psychological stress but may also increase adherence to physical distancing measures and prevent the spread of viruses.

Reliability and Validity of the Turkish Language Version of the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

        Oğuz Mertoğlu,Oktay Üçer,Yasin Ceylan,Ozan Bozkurt,Bülent Günlüsoy,Ali Can Albaz,Ömer Demir,Aegean Study Group of Society of Urological Surgery 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2016 International Neurourology Journal Vol.20 No.2

Purpose: Patients receiving treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia may have persistent storage symptoms. There has been increasing debate on the precision and accuracy of the International Prostate Symptom Score questionnaires over other questionnaires in evaluating all the complaints of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The aim of this study was to perform the validity and reliability analysis of the Turkish version of the Internatinal Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Male LUTS (ICIQ-MLUTS). Methods: Linguistic validation was studied (i.e., translation and back translation). Intelligibility was completed between October 2013 and November 2013. Data was collected between November 2013 and March 2014. The stability and reliability of the form were measured with the Cronbach test. Results: In total, 117 male patients were included in the study. At the first visit, the mean age of the patients was 59 years (range, 18–84 years). For reliability, the Cronbach alpha value was 0.798, demonstrating the internal consistency of the form (r>0.7). The internal consistency of each question was examined separately and found to be over 0.7. For the evaluation of test-retest reliability, the test was administered to 116 patients for a second time with an interval of 2–4 weeks. The first and second test scores for each question were found to be correlated (r=0.741). Conclusions: ICIQ-MLUTS is a new questionnaire, which can be used for evaluating male LUTS in Turkey. We believe that the Turkish version of the ICIQ-MLUTS is an important breakthrough in our country.
