      • Estimation of the average signal-to-interference ratio for the uplink of CDMA based mobile communication systems

        In this paper some new basic approaches are given leading to more precise estimations of the average signal-tointerference ratio (SIR) of the uplink of code division multiple access (CDMA) based mobile communication systems. In the literature, a lower bound on the average SIR is often employed. Here, the difference between the exact value of the average SIR and the lower bound is mathematically analyzed. By means of two simple examples (voice activity, imperfect power control in a single cell system) it is shown that these differences are especially significant for a few number of subscribers. Furthermore, we have found out that the exact value of the average SIR is always higher than the result obtained from the lower bound. The simulations in the paper show that the lower bound is a good approximation only for a large number of subscribers.
