The Ethanolic Extract of Clitoria ternatea L. Flower Attenuates SMADs and REGs Regulation in Dyslipidemia and Diabetes Mellitus Rat Model

Lusiana Darsono 한국생약학회 2023 Natural Product Sciences Vol.29 No.4

Dyslipidemia is a condition of fat metabolism disorders with increased levels of total cholesterol (CHOL), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Dyslipide- mia is often found in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DMT2) with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. The extract of butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea L.) (CTE), exhibits therapeutic action like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic properties. This study examined the antidiabetic potential of CTE in rat models of dyslipidemia and DM. Rats were fed nicotinamide (NA) and streptozotocin (STZ) to induce DMT2 after a 28-day high-fat diet, and the rats were given with CTE at 200, 400, 800 mg/kg body weight (BW), glibenclamide, and simvastatin for 28 days. Suppressor of mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 3 (SMAD3), and SMAD4 were assayed by immunohistochemistry (IHC), regenerating family member 1 alfa (REG1A), REG1B and glucagon gene expression were measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) body weight was measured weekly. CTE at a dose of 800 mg/kg BW was the most active to increase body weight, and decrease SMAD3, SMAD4 protein expression, glucagon, REG1A, REG1B genes expression in dyslipidemia and DM rat model. CTE has potency antidiabetic activities in dyslipidemia and DM rat mode

The Relationship between Audit Committee Effectiveness and Audit Fees: Insights from Indonesia

JANUARTI, Indira,DARSONO, Darsono,CHARIRI, Anis Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7

This study examines the relationship between the effectiveness of an audit committee and the amount of audit fees. The sample consists of 130 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2016-2017. Data are obtained from the IDX and company's annual reports. The effectiveness of an audit committee is measured by independent audit committee size, frequency of audit committee meetings, and expertise of the audit committee. Results show first that the size of the independent audit committee has a positive effect on audit fees. This finding suggests that an increase in the number of independent audit committee members produces a higher quality of reporting, and so they tend to choose a reputable public accountant. Second, the frequency of its meetings has positive effects on audit fees. It suggests that the more effective the supervision of the committee to improve audit quality, the higher the audit fees to be paid. However, this study fails to provide evidence that the expertise of the audit committee affects audit fees. The result of this study suggests that the audit committee tends to adopt the demand approach based on the reputation of the public accounting firm accountant firm in determining the amount of audit fees.

Strategy Orientation, Innovation Capability, and Women Entrepreneurial Performance in Culinary Business in Indonesia

Sari Laelatul QODRIAH,Darsono DARSONO,Asri Laksmi RIANI,Sapja ANANTANYU 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.7

This paper aims to analyze the influence of innovation capabilities on the relationship between strategic orientation and the performance of women small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs). The strategic orientation in this study used three constructs, namely market orientation, learning orientation, and technology orientation. The method of data collection was the survey method and was collected from 149 SMEs in the typical culinary industry in Indonesia using probability samples. The data analysis method uses path analysis. The results showed that the influence of strategic orientation on business performance has strengthened previous studies. However, in this study strategic orientation that directly affects business performance is market orientation and learning orientation, while technology orientation has no direct effect. The existence of innovation capability as a mediation variable strengthens the influence of strategic orientation on business performance. The results of this study also showed that the ability of innovation has a positive and significant effect on the performance of women entrepreneurs in Indonesia. The contribution of this research pays special attention to the strategic orientation of women entrepreneurs engaged in the culinary business in Indonesia.

Optimization of Barium Titanate Slip for Tape Casting Using Design of Experiments

        Kwon, Sung-Wook,Darsono, Nono,Yoon, Dang-Hyok The Korean Ceramic Society 2006 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.43 No.9

A full-factorial design of experiments with three input factors and two levels for each factor including center points was utilized for the preparation and characterization of twelve types of $BaTiO_3$ slips for tape casting. Ceramic powders with different particle sizes, different milling methods such as high energy milling and conventional ball milling, and two types of dispersant with different polymeric species were chosen as input factors in order to investigate their effects on slip and on green tape properties. Tape casting, a small rectangular-shaped K-square preparation, characterization and quantitative data analysis using statistical software were followed. Ceramic powder was the most significant among three input factors for the output responses of slip viscosity and green tape density, showing more favorable results with large particles than with very fine ones. In addition, high energy milling for only 30 min was more efficient than 24h of conventional ball milling in terms of powder dispersion and milling. The optimum condition based on the experimental results was a slip exposed to high energy milling with large ceramic particles along with a methylethyl acetate dispersant.

Anti-inflammatory Effect of Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) Peel Extract and its Compounds in LPS-induced RAW264.7 Cells

        Wahyu Widowati,Lusiana Darsono,Jo Suherman,Nurul Fauziah,Maesaroh Maesaroh,Pande Putu Erawijantari 한국생약학회 2016 Natural Product Sciences Vol.22 No.3

Inflammation plays an important role in host defense against external stimuli such as infection by pathogen, endotoxin or chemical exposure by the production of the inflammatory mediators that produced by macrophage. Anti-inflammatory factor is important to treat the dangers of chronic inflammation associated with chronic disease. This research aims to analyze the anti-inflammatory effects of Garcinia mangostana L. peel extract (GMPE), a-mangostin, and g-mangostin in LPS-induced murine macrophage cell line (RAW 264.7) by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators. The cytotoxic assay of G. mangostana L. extract, a-mangostin, and g-mangostin were performed by MTS (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium) to determine the safe and non-toxic concentration in RAW 264.7 for the further assay. The concentration of inflammatory mediators (COX-2, IL-6, and IL-1b) were measured by the ELISA-based assay and NO by the nitrate/nitrite colorimetric assay in treated LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. The inhibitory activity was determined by the reducing concentration of inflammatory mediators in treated LPS-induced RAW 264.7 over the untreated cells. This research revealed that GMPE, a-mangostin, and g-mangostin possess the anti-inflammatory effect by reducing COX-2, IL-6, IL-1b, and NO production in LPS-induces RAW 264.7 cells.

Production of monodisperse spherical mesophase from coal tar pitch by solvent extraction

        Phiciato Phiciato,Yudi Nugraha Thaha,Nono Darsono,Miftahul Huda 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.6

The spherical mesophases are the main precursors for the high tap density of carbonaceous anode batteries. However, it is challenging to control mesophase size without coalescence and no deformation since it quickly coalesces into a regular large sphere. Here, we propose a feasible extraction method to refine the spherical size of mesophase using benzene. Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analysis of untreated pitch revealed that the maximum temperature for mesophase nucleation should not exceed 410 °C to provoke the nucleation of mesophase spheres while maintaining a high pyrolysis yield. The extraction results showed that the extraction weight tends to decrease with an increase in the solvent ratio. There is an exponential relationship between the influence of solvent ratio and the ability for extraction. The solubility of the spherical mesophase in benzene is size-dependent and can dissolve selectively spherical mesophases smaller than 5 μm. Consequently, a monodisperse spherical mesophase was obtained. The reason for forming uniform mesophase spheres can be explained by their thermodynamic state, as described by the “two-step” classical nucleation theory. Benzene effectively improves the size distribution of spherical mesophase by dissolving small sizes while retaining large ones.
