Data from an experiment involving six polyvoltine and three bivoltine silkworm breeds have been analysed to know the level of hybrid rigour and cocoon shape variation in Fl hybrids among silkworm breeds with lows medium and high cocoon weight. Results indicated significantly positive heterosis for several quantitative characters with maximum total heterosis over mid parent value in hybrids between low and medium followed by low and low, medium and medium, low and high and high and low cocoon-weighed breeds, respectively. Study on cocoon shape measurement revelled that among Fl hybrids, cocoons of the three combinations such as GNP ${\times}$ CSR2, GNP ${\times}$ J2 and PM ${\times}$ NB4 D2 were comparatively uniform in their cocoon shape. Importance of this study to know the level of heterosis and cocoon shape variability in different silkworm crosses hale been discussed.

The interaction between colloidal gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and lysozyme (Lyz) has been studied through spectroscopic and microscopic measurements, molecular docking simulation and colorimetric measurements to investigate corona formation and the mechanism, affinity, number of sites and stoichiometry of binding. Molecular docking simulation endorses that, at physiological pH, the interaction between basic NH2 group of arginine and citrate ions is predominant than the interaction between citrate ions and the positive surface charge of the bare AuNPs that result in the desorption of citrate ions from Au surfaces and finally, electrostatic interaction between – COO- group of arginine and positive charge surface of AuNPs results in the adsorption of Lyz on Au surfaces. As observed from Benesi–Hildebrand and fluorescence analyses, the ground state complex formation between Lyz and AuNPs requires several minutes, which is approximately 11 min in the present work to attain stoichiometric ratio 1:1. CD spectra indicate insignificant or no conformational change in the secondary structure of Lyz in the presence of AuNPs. The time variation of LSPR peak position and peak height in the presence of Lyz have been studied extensively through spectroscopic and microscopic measurements. Detailed discussion on the probable time-specific roles of change in local dielectric constant, plasmon coupling and electrostatic interaction on these variations has been presented. Colorimetric change of the AuNPs-Lyz system with time has been analyzed by measuring the red, blue and green color fractions as well as its correlation with the process of corona formation and aggregation has been investigated to propose a novel naked eye colorimetric approach of studying these processes in AuNPs-Lyz system.

<P>The Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey (TAOS) project has collected more than a billion photometric measurements since 2005 January. These sky survey data—covering timescales from a fraction of a second to a few hundred days—are a useful source to study stellar variability. A total of 167 star fields, mostly along the ecliptic plane, have been selected for photometric monitoring with the TAOS telescopes. This paper presents our initial analysis of a search for periodic variable stars from the time-series TAOS data on one particular TAOS field, No. 151 (R.A. = 17h30m6<img entity='fs' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/fs.gif' ALT='fs' ALIGN='BASELINE' />7, decl. = 27°17'30'', J2000), which had been observed over 47 epochs in 2005. A total of 81 candidate variables are identified in the 3 deg2 field, with magnitudes in the range 8 < R < 16. On the basis of the periodicity and shape of the light curves, 29 variables, 15 of which were previously unknown, are classified as RR Lyrae, Cepheid, δ Scuti, SX Phonencis, semi-regular, and eclipsing binaries.</P>

<P>Regioregular pentacene-containing polymers were synthesized with alkylated bithiophene (<B>BT</B>) and cyclopentadithiophene (<B>CPDT</B>) as comonomers. Among them, 2,9-conjugated polymers <B>PnBT-2,9</B> and <B>PnCPDT-2,9</B> achieved the best performance in transistor and photovoltaic devices respectively. The former achieved the most highly ordered structures in thin films, yielding ambipolar transistor behavior with hole and electron mobilities up to 0.03 and 0.02 cm2 V−1 s−1 on octadecylsilane-treated substrates. The latter achieved photovoltaic power conversion efficiencies up to 0.33%. The impact of regioregularity and direction of conjugation-extension (2,9 <I>vs.</I> 2,10), on thin-film order and device performance has been demonstrated for the pentacene-containing polymers for the first time, providing insight towards future functional material design.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Regioregular pentacene-bithiophene-based polymers exhibit disparate solid-state packing and field-effect transistor performance, with the 2,9-conjugation-extended polymer showing the highest molecular order and hole mobility. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c2jm15483h'> </P>

Three group of porous Ti4Al4Co samples made of (i) unmilled powder and vacuum sintered (S1), (ii) milled powder andvacuum sintered (S2), and (iii) milled powder sintered in open atmosphere (S3) were prepared. Phase change, crystallite sizeand lattice strain variations due to powder milling and sintering were examined by SEM and XRD. To evaluate mechanicalproperty, alloy samples were subjected to the uniaxial compression test. For corrosion analysis, Tafel plot was plotted usingelectrochemical corrosion system in simulated body fluid (SBF) as electrolytic medium. From the obtained results, it wasfound that significant microstructural transformation takes place due to milling and change in sintering atmosphere. SampleS1possessed 139 MPa compressive strength, which was about 48% and 76% higher than samples S2and S3respectively. Corrosion current density for S3was found as 5.5 ± 0.3 μA/cm2 which is 7 and 12 times lower than S2and S1samples.

In this work, a novel powder metallurgy method comprising elemental powder mixing and hot vacuum compaction wasused to produce fine-grained Cu–Al–Ni–Mn SMA successfully. The effects of Mn (0–3 wt%) addition and different Al concentrationson the mechanical and shape memory capabilities of powder-processed Cu–Al–Ni SMA were investigated. Theformation of different martensitic and secondary phases is characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffraction. The addition of Mn improved ductility and decreased phase transformation temperature of the powderprocessedSMA, which was confirmed using a three-point bending/tensile test and differential scanning calorimetry analysis.
