Several 1-benzhydryl-sulfonyl-4-(3-(piperidin-4-yl)propyl)piperidine derivatives 8(a-j) were prepared by the treatment of substituted benzhydryl chlorides with 4-(3-(piperidin-4-yl)propyl)piperidine followed by N-sulfonation with sulfonyl chlorides in the presence of dry methylene dichloride and triethyl amine. The synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated in vitro for their efficacy as antimicrobial agents by artificial inoculation technique against standard strains of two important bacterial viz., Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria and Ralstonia solanacearum as well as and two fungal pathogens namely Alternaria solani and Fusarium solani of tomato plants. We have briefly investigated the structure-activity relation studies and reveal that the nature of substitutions on benzhydryl ring and sulfonamide ring influences the antibacterial activity. Among the synthesized new compounds 8b, 8d, 8g, 8h, 8i, and 8j were showed significant potent antimicrobial activities compared to the standard drugs Chloramphenicol, Mancozeb.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of strongly sum difference quotient (SSDQ) graph and show that much studied families of graphs such as cycles, flowers, wheels are SSDQ graphs. We give an upper bound for α(n), the maximum number of edges in a SSDQ graph of order n. Also we derive an explicit formula for α(n) in terms of Eulers phi function.

The 14 MeV neutron generator facility is being developed by the Institute for Plasma Research India to conduct the lab scale experiments related to Indian breeding blanket system for ITER and DEMO. It will also be utilized for material testing, shielding experiments and development of fusion diagnostics. Occupational radiation exposure control is necessary for the all kind of nuclear facilities to get the operational licensing from governing authorities and nuclear regulatory bodies. In the same way, the radiation exposure for the 14 MeV neutron generator facility at the occupational worker area and accessible zones for general workers should be under the permissible limit of AERB India. The generator is designed for the yield of 1012 n/s. The shielding assessment has been made to estimate the radiation dose during the operational time of the neutron generator. The facility has many utilities and constraints like ventilation ducts, accessible doors, accessibility of neutron generator components and to conduct the experiments which make the shielding assessment challenging to provide proper safety for occupational workers and the general public. The neutron and gamma dose rates have been estimated using the MCNP radiation transport code and ENDF eVII nuclear data libraries. The ICRP-74 fluence to dose conversion coefficients has been used for the assessment. The annual radiation exposure has been assessed by considering 500 h per year operational time. The provision of local shield near to neutron generator has been also evaluated to reduce the annual radiation doses. The comprehensive results of radiation shielding capability of neutron generator building and local shield design have been presented in the paper along with detailed maps of radiation field

Western Ghats of Karnataka, an important biodiversity hot spot in the world, rich in insect fauna includingtermites. Diversity of termites from this region poorly understood. In the present study, we have redescribed 12species and termites belonging to two families viz., Rhinotermitidae and termitidae based on morphological andmolecular differences employing mitochondrial 16s rRNA. Further we have employed Bayesian inference inorder to understand phylogenetic relationships among different termite species studied. The integrative taxonomicapproach was successful in delimiting the species studied in the present investigation.

malnad and coastal areas. White grubs are the most important pests on this crop and cause considerable yield loss. Surveys were conducted to record species that are infested with white grubs of Karnataka and Kerala states. Three species of white grubs were collected and described using morphological and molecular characters. A detailed study of male genitalial structures such as aedeagus and endophallus in three species of Leucopholis Dejean, 1833 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae) viz., Leucopholis lepidophora Blanchard, 1850, Leucopholis burmeisteri Brenske, 1894 and Leucopholis coneophora Burmeister, 1855 showed substantial differences. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene was sequenced for molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis in this respect. L. lepidophora, L. burmeisteri and L. coneophora species were successfully identified by employing COXI gene. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that the COXI DNA barcode fragment of Leucopholis species and out-group taxa, available in genetic databases, confirms the species identity.
