Software testing methodology for device drivers without application for Digital TV

This report gives the software testing methodology for embedded system. Recently in developing a digital television, development time is decreasing, whereas various requirements such as adding new features, changing hardware device are increasing. An early software verification process is essential to reduce the development time however this verification can be started after integrating all code. We propose a method for testing the device driver without application for digital TV system. This method enables us to test device drivers before integrating all code, and we are able to reduce development time for products with the new hardware. We implemented a software module which tests and verifies device drivers, and applications were replaced to this above Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL). Testing and verification for only device drivers of the target are performed at runtime. Therefore, we could easily detect error position at drivers and reduce integrating time while changing new devices using this method. In particular, we provide testing method on Digital TV as one of embedded systems.
