Numerical simulation of shaking table tests on 3D reinforced concrete structures

Beyhan Bayhan 국제구조공학회 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.48 No.2

The current paper presents the numerical blind prediction of nonlinear seismic response of two full-scale, three dimensional, one-story reinforced concrete structures subjected to bidirectional earthquake simulations on shaking table. Simulations were carried out at the laboratories of LNEC (Laboratorio Nacional de Engenharia Civil) in Lisbon, Portugal. The study was motivated by participation in the blind prediction contest of shaking table tests, organized by the challenge committee of the 15th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering. The test specimens, geometrically identical, designed for low and high ductility levels, were subjected to subsequent earthquake motions of increasing intensity. Three dimensional nonlinear analytical models were implemented and subjected to the input base motions. Reasonably accurate reproduction of the measured displacement response was obtained through appropriate modeling. The goodness of fit between analytical and measured results depended on the details of the analytical models.

Harmonic curvature functions of some special curves in Galilean $3-$Space

        Beyhan Yilmaz,Seyma Metin,Ismail Gok,Yusuf Yayli 호남수학회 2019 호남수학학술지 Vol.41 No.2

The aim of the paper is to characterize some curves with the help of their harmonic curvature functions. First of all, we have defined harmonic curvature function of an arbitrary curve and have re-determined the position vectors of helices in terms of their harmonic curvature functions in Galilean $3-$space. Then, we have investigated the relation between rectifying curves and Salkowski (or anti-Salkowski) curves in Galilean $3-$space. Furthermore, the position vectors of them are obtained via the serial approach of the curves. Finally, we have given some illustrated examples of helices and rectifying curves with some assumptions.

Kinetics of esterification of propionic acid with n-amyl alcohol in the presence of cation exchange resins

Beyhan Erdem,Mustafa Cebe 한국화학공학회 2006 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.23 No.6

of n-amyl alcohol with propionic acid catalyzed by macroporous (Amberlyst-15) and micro-When these catalysts were used as commercially available, Amberlyst-15 was observed to be the most effective catalystwith respect to rate constants, but after drying it became the less effective one. The reaction rate increased with increasein catalyst concentration and reaction temperature. Stirrer speed and different mesh sizes had virtually no effect on therate under the experimental conditions. The effect of divinylbenzene content was examined for the microporous resinDowex 50 W, and the results showed that the propionic acid conversion decreased as the divinylbenzene content wasincreased. The rate data were correlated with a second-order homogeneous reaction model. The apparent activationenergies, reaction enthalpies and entropy values were calculated for each catalyst. Reaction monitoring is simple and% 2.54.

Determination of non-structural protein level for Turkey foot-and-mouth disease vaccine antigens during in-process

        Beyhan Sareyyüpoğlu,Can Çokçalışkan,Aydın Çoskuner,Veli Gülyaz 대한백신학회 2020 Clinical and Experimental Vaccine Research Vol.9 No.2

Purpose: The success of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) serological serosurveillance greatly depends on the FMD vaccine which does not include any non-structural proteins (NSPs) of the FMD virus. Since pure FMD vaccines from NSPs are used with the FMD eradication programs using DIVA (Differentiating Infected from Vaccinated Animals) tests. Apart from the in-vivo test defined in the World Organisation for Animal Health, two different test kits were developed in-process NSP detection purposes. The first test kit was developed in 2010 and the second one has been very recently developed in 2019. Materials and Methods: In this study, the level of NSP has been examined by first-chemiluminescent filtration assisted (FAL)-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based in-vitro, in-process test kit for Turkey FMD vaccine antigen samples. A total of 94 samples were used. The critical maximum acceptable levels of NSP were determined after purification stage of samples. Results: As a maximum NSP level, 70 ng NSP for the polyethylene glycol concentrated samples and 30 ng NSP for the vaccine antigen mixture samples were accepted. A mini repeatability study was also performed. The correlation between the NSP, total protein, and 146S particul quantity of samples were analyzed. Conclusion: As a conclusion, the chemiluminescent FAL-ELISA based test kit can be used for the NSP purity level determination of in-process samples.

Cationic surfactant templated synthesis of magnetic mesoporous nanocomposites for efficient removal of Light Green

Beyhan Erdem,Sezer Erdem,Nalan Tekin 한국화학공학회 2021 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.38 No.7

Fe3O4-SiO2-NH2, Fe3O4-CTABSiO2-NH2 and Fe3O4-SiO2-CTABSiO2-NH2 magnetic adsorbents were successfully prepared and could be used effectively for the adsorption of Light Green from aqueous solutions. Unlike the first sample, mesoporous silica coatings were created using cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide micelles as molecular templates on superparamagnetic iron oxide in one sample, and on silica-coated iron oxide in the other sample to improve the adsorptive properties of the nanocomposites. The characterization by FT-IR, SEM/EDX, Zeta-potential, XRD, VSM, and N2-adsorption/desorption confirmed the production of mesoporous silica layer. Although coating processes with both silica and mesoporous silica layers led to a vaguely decrease in saturation magnetization of the Fe3O4- SiO2-CTABSiO2-NH2, the nanoparticles were protected with silica coatings for environment conditions and made more suitable for subsequent amino functionalization. The results determined from Batch adsorption experiments fitted to Langmuir isotherm model with maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) equal to 56.18, 196.08 and 227.27mg g1, for Fe3O4-SiO2-NH2, Fe3O4-CTABSiO2-NH2 and Fe3O4-SiO2-CTABSiO2-NH2, respectively, and it was seen from the kinetic results, the LG adsorption was identified by pseudo-second-order kinetics, revealing that LG adsorption process is homogeneous, monolayer and based on chemical interactions. According to the results, both silica and mesoporous silica coating strategy can play crucial role in improving the adsorptive properties of nanocomposites.

Variations in the hysteretic behavior of LRBs as a function of applied loading

Gökhan Özdemir,Beyhan Bayhan,Polat Gülkan 국제구조공학회 2018 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.67 No.1

The study presented herein focused on the change in hysteretic force-deformation behavior of lead rubber bearings (LRBs). The material model used to idealize response of LRBs under cyclic motion is capable of representing the gradual attrition in strength of isolator unit on account of lead core heating. To identify the effect of loading history on the hysteretic response of LRBs, a typical isolator unit is subjected to cyclic motions with different velocity, amplitude and number of cycles. Furthermore, performance of an LRB isolated single degree of freedom system is studied under different seismic input levels. Finally, the significance of lead core heating effect on LRBs is discussed by considering the current design approach for base isolated structures. Results of this study show that the response of an LRB is governed strongly by the amplitude and number of cycles of the motion and the considered seismicity level.
