Truncated Hankel operators and their matrices

        Bartosz Lanucha,Malgorzata Michalska 대한수학회 2019 대한수학회보 Vol.56 No.1

Truncated Hankel operators are compressions of classical \linebreak Hankel operators to model spaces. In this paper we describe matrix representations of truncated Hankel operators on finite-dimensional model spaces. We then show that the obtained descriptions hold also for some infinite-dimensional cases.

Peculiarities and Errors in the Legends of Aurei and Denarii Minted in Syria from Vespasian to AD 193

        Bartosz B. Awianowicz 한국서양고전학회 2017 西洋古典學硏究 Vol.56 No.3

The aim of the paper is to analyze such peculiarities as: untypical shape of letters, omissions and interchanging of characters, incorrect characters in Latin words, fragmentary etching of a given character into the stamp die and etching of a superfluous character which seem to be phenomena typical for the legends of aurei and, in particular, of denarii struck in Syria (especially at Antioch) for Vespasian and Titus in the early 70s of the first century and of denarii minted in uncertain eastern mints (sometimes attributed to Antioch) under Hadrian. The epigraphic and palaeographic approach to the numismatic material allows us to conclude that it is highly probable that the striking of the aurei and denarii in Syria for the troops of Vespasian and Titus (similarly as 120 years later of denarii for Pescennius Niger and, subsequently, for Septimius Severus) was entrusted to die-cutters and minters previously involved in the production of local coins with Greek legends, and usually of a larger diameter, facilitating proper legend arrangements, and that engravers of the coins minted in Syria and neighbour provinces who were Greek native-speakers, when they had to engrave denarii with Latin legends often made characteristic mistakes due to their insufficient acquaintance with Latin language or even Latin alphabet.

Modeling of self-excited forces during multimode flutter: an experimental study

Bartosz Siedziak,Ole Øiseth 한국풍공학회 2018 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.27 No.5

The prediction of multimode flutter relies, to a larger extent than bimodal flutter, on accurate modeling of the self-excited forces since it is challenging to perform experimental validation by using aeroelastic tests for a multimode case. This paper sheds some light on the accuracy of predicted self-excited forces by comparing numerical predictions of self-excited forces with measured forces from wind tunnel tests considering the flutter vibration mode. The critical velocity and the corresponding flutter vibration mode of the Hardanger Bridge are first determined using the classical multimode approach. Then, a section model of the bridge is forced to undergo a motion corresponding to the flutter vibration mode at selected points along the bridge, during which the forces that act upon it are measured. The measured self-excited forces are compared with numerical predictions to assess the uncertainty involved in the modeling. The self-excited lift and pitching moment are captured in an excellent manner by the aerodynamic derivatives. The self-excited drag force is, on the other hand, not well represented since second-order effects dominate. However, the self-excited drag force is very small for the cross-section considered, making its influence on the critical velocity marginal. The self-excited drag force can, however, be of higher importance for other cross-sections.

The Marine Songs of Yu. Kim The Marine Songs of Yu. Kim

( Bartosz Osiewicz ) 한국러시아문학회 2011 러시아어문학 연구논집 Vol.38 No.-

The article is devoted to the analyses of Yuliy Kim`s author`s songs about the sea. The group of these works is the most interesting and characteristic for Kim`s artistic achievements. Its occurrence has got both biographical and literary roots. The poet`s relations with the sea are connected with his staying on Kamchatka. At the end of the 50s and the beginning of the 60s, as he graduated from the Pedagogical Institute in Moscow, Kim worked at the East as a teacher of history and Russian literature. At that time, he became fascinated with the sea and started to write about it the whole number of original songs. The mentioned songs depict adventures of brave captains, courageous seamen and dangerous pirates. The author does not forget about the significance of literary tradition in his created pictures and situations. Hence, Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Grin play the crucial role. On the basis of their writing experiences, Kim created a picture of a romantic dreamer- a conqueror of seas and oceans. What is more, the language of Kim`s works, in which the poet perfectly used seaman slang, emphasizes their uniqueness. Furthermore, his songs are polyphonic; voice of numerous characters is autonomous and independent at the same time. Another important thing to be mentioned is that the bard very often writes songs from the borderline of lyric, epic and drama, what may prove his versatility. Along with Kim, many other Russian bards, such as Novella Matveeva i Yuri Vizbor, were developing the sea topic. Also in Vladimir Vysotsky`s works one can notice a great influence of this original and unique subject.

Классики авторской песни в посвящениях Юлия Кима

Bartosz Osiewicz 한국러시아문학회 2015 러시아어문학 연구논집 Vol.49 No.-

Russian author’s song as a syncretic kind of poetry is mainly associated with such surnames as Bulat Okudzhava, Vladimir Vysotsky and Alexandr Galich. The above authors became classics of a new literary-musical phenomenon for various reasons. Beside them Yuliy Kim is distinguished by contributing to creation and development of the author’s song. Therefore, this article is devoted to the analysis of Kim’s intertextual dialogue with other outstanding poets-bards. There are some works in Kim’s poetry which are strictly dedicated to classics of the author’s song. It results from Kim’s interest in their artistic personalities and poetries. For this reason, the writer’s texts are full of allusions, quotations, reminiscences from Okudzava’s, Vysotsky’s and Galich’s works. Moreover, there are also some references to biographical facts of the poets, which are possible to be found only due to comparative research. Finally, comparing Kim’s works dedicated to singing poets with their own works, it can be shown that Kim uses original elements of a literary collage, whereas his pieces of writings are complex synthetic constructions.

Utility of fistula risk score in assessing the risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula occurrence and other significant complications after different types of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor resections

        Bartosz Molasy,Patryk Zemła,Sławomir Mrowiec,Katarzyna Kusnierz 대한외과학회 2022 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.103 No.6

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the utility of the fistula risk score (FRS) and its components in predicting the occurrence of postoperative pancreatic fistula and other significant postoperative complications after resections of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 131 patients operated on for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors between 2015 and 2021 was performed. The correlation of the FRS scale with the occurrence of postoperative pancreatic fistulas and postoperative complications according to the Clavien-Dindo classification was analyzed; only in 109 cases of distal resections and pancreatoduodenectomies (PD). Results: Soft pancreatic texture and intraoperative blood loss of >700 mL are risk factors for clinically significant pancreatic fistula (P = 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively) and significant postoperative complications (P = 0.016 and P = 0.001, respectively). Wirsung duct diameter (WDD) was associated only with the occurrence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (P = 0.013). FRS scale is associated with the occurrence of pancreatic fistulas and clinically significant postoperative complications in cases of distal resections and PDs (P < 0.001 and P = 0.005, respectively). Postoperative complications are correlated with the occurrence of fistula type B or C (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Soft pancreatic texture, intraoperative blood loss of >700 mL, and a WDD of ≤3 mm are risk factors for clinically significant postoperative pancreatic fistula. FRS may be applied not only in PDs but also in distal pancreatectomies. Unfortunately, it is not used in total pancreatic resections and enucleations since FRS takes into account the WDD.

Ten Legal Cases in Cicero’s De oratore 1.175-184

        Bartosz Awianowicz 한국서양고전학회 2015 西洋古典學硏究 Vol.54 No.3

In the first book of Cicero’s De oratore (1.175-184) Crassus criticizes the shameless (impudentia) of those advocates who neglect the civil law and illustrates his argumentation with 10 legal cases. The aim of the paper is to discuss the function of all of them, arguing that they were not only famous cases well known to the interlocutors of the Cicero’s dialogue, which have taken place in September 91 BC, but also could be regarded as theseis, causae or controversiae practiced in schools of rhetoric in the 50’s of the first Century BC. when Cicero wrote De oratore and well known most of all from Seneca’s Controversiae. e.g. the pronoun “ille” in the first case (1.175: causa illius militis) can suggest the well known real case (cf. Valerius Maximus, 7.7.1), but also a case known because similar topics were studied in schools of rhetoric, the examples concerns exiled foreigner “who had come to live in Rome, having the right to do so provided that he attach himself to someone who would act as a kind of patronus, subsequently died without leaving a will” (1.177) contains no detailed information on person, time and place of the law suit and as such can be regarded as sui generis example of quaestio legalis analysed by Cicero in De inventione (2.116-122), while famous causa Curiana (1.180) was already analyzed (without names of parties and advocates) by him in De inventione (2.122-127) as an example of controversia ex scripto et sententia. The analysis of 10 legal cases / controversies shows that Cicero’s goal is to authenticate the exercises, inspired by the Greek school theseis, in assessment of particular legal controversies by including them in the real reports on legal disputes of the second century BC. and the nineties of the first century BC.
