Objectives: The objectives of this study were to investigate the changes in bisphenol A (BPA) concentrations in urine from before to after sealant filling and the relationship between BPA and the number of teeth with sealed surfaces. Methods: Thirty-one children aged 6 and 7 years from three elementary schools in Daegu city who did not have any sealant and resin filling were selected as subjects. Urine samples were collected before and after sealant filling until 24 hours, with informed consent from their caregivers. The BPA concentration in all the collected urine samples was analyzed at Seegene Medical. Statistical analysis was performed using the Friedman test, Scheirer-Ray-Hope test, and the repeated-measures generalized linear mixed model of SPSS version 22.0. Results: The BPA concentrations increased from 3.49-mg/g creatinine before to 4.91-mg/g creatinine 2-3 hours later and to 4.15-mg/g creatinine after 24 hours. The more teeth with sealed surfaces, the higher the BPA concentration in children, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusions: The BPA concentrations were highest at 2-3 hours after sealant filling and decreased at 24 hours. Exposure to the sealant appears to have a meaningful correlation with the concentration of BPA in the urine of children.

Background: Skin hydration is a common problem both in elderly and young people as dry skin may cause irritation, dermatological disorders, and wrinkles. While both genetic and environmental factors seem to influence skin hydration, thorough genetic studies on skin hydration have not yet been conducted. Objective: We used a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to explore the genetic elements underlying skin hydration by regulating epidermal differentiation and skin barrier function. Methods: A GWAS was conducted to investigate the genetic factors influencing skin hydration in 100 Korean females along with molecular studies of genes in human epidermal keratinocytes for functional study in vitro. Results: Among several single nucleotide polymorphisms identified in GWAS, we focused on Single Stranded DNA Binding Protein 3 (SSBP3) which is associated with DNA replication and DNA damage repair. To better understand the role of SSBP3 in skin cells, we introduced a calcium-induced differentiation keratinocyte culture system model and found that SSBP3 was upregulated in keratinocytes in a differentiation dependent manner. When SSBP3 was overexpressed using a recombinant adenovirus, the expression of differentiation-related genes such as loricrin and involucrin was markedly increased. Conclusion: Taken together, our results suggest that genetic variants in the intronic region of SSBP3 could be determinants in skin hydration of Korean females. SSBP3 represents a new candidate gene to evaluate the molecular basis of the hydration ability in individuals. (Ann Dermatol 30(4) 432∼440, 2018)

Over the past decade, there has been growing scientific evidence that dietary milk plays a role in beneficial effects for human health. Milk provides a number of good ingredients, in particular with growth factors and different types of proteins such as α -lactalbumin and β-casein. As well as essential amino acids of leucine and isoleucine are make to a positive way of human physical conditions. Therefore, those ingredients are directly involved in the human body, fluid composition and involved in metabolism of protein or carbohydrate. In addition, the development of physical strength and bone health associated with milk consumption. Thus, milk is one of good food for prevention of osteoporosis. Nowadays, several dietary guidelines suggest that people should intake two or three cups of dairy products including milk a day. However, some people cannot drink milk because they appear many adverse effects with regard to intake of milk like allergic reactions, lactose intolerance and weight gain problem. Consequently, it is worthy to discuss about these matters. Person pose the health problems regarding milk consumption should select dairy products carefully. Milk substitutes such as partially-hydrolyzed formula, yogurt, cheese and non- and low-fat dairy products are suggested. They prevent the allergy and lactose intolerance due to lactase in fermented milk digesting the lactose into glucose and galactose. Taking all of these into account, milk consumption is very important to maintain the human health. Although there are several adverse effects with regard to milk consumption, it would not be shown any health problem only if it follows the milk dietary guidelines. Therefore, a milk drinking should be actively encouraged for the public health.

Potter's syndrome is a rare condition occurring at a frequency of 1:2000 to 1:5000 fetuses. Here we present a case of Potter syndrome with bilateral renal agenesis with low-set abnormal ears, right ventricular hypertrophy with club foot diagnosed on autopsy. A 28 year-old primi-para woman was referred from local clinic at pregnancy 20weeks and 6days for decreased amniotic fluid index. She had no underlying disease or previous operation history except laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy done three years ago. She had never smoked cigarettes and exposed to drinking alcohols during pregnancy. Under transabdominal sonography, the amniotic fluid was nearly absent. On the day of arrival, amniocentesis and 300cc of amnioinfusion was done. The amniotic fluid normalized after amniotic infusion. Chromosomal study was performed by using Giemsa-Trypsin-Leishman Banding technique, it is confirmed to have no numerical or structural chromosome abnormalities under the microscope of 550 resolving power We performed target sonography. Estimated fetal body weight was approximately 323g at the top 20 percentile on the graph. Under doppler sonography, bladder filling and renal arteries were not visible. Lying down adrenal sign with empty renal fossa and right ventricular hypertrophy was seen. The chest was 19weeks sized suggesting pulmonary hypoplasia. For religious reason, she decided to continue pregnancy. One week later, she admitted via emergency department due to labor pain with amniotic membrane rupture. A 350gram weighted stillborn male baby was delivered by spontaneous vaginal delivery. < Autopsy finding > The stillborn baby had no kidney, ureter, bladder and showed low-set ears, suppressed mandible and club foot. When the antenatal sonography shows severely decreased amniotic fluid with intact amnion, we have to suspect urinary anomaly. If severe oligohydramnios, non-visualization of the bladder and empty renal fossa is seen through sonography, it reflects bilateral renal agenesis.
