Effect of Acupressure on Preoperative Cesarean Section Anxiety

        Faezeh Abadi,Faezeh Abadi,Zhila Fereidouni,Mehdi Amirkhani,Shahnaz Karimi,Majid Najafi Kalyani 사단법인약침학회 2018 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.11 No.6

Anxiety is a common preoperative problem in cesarean section candidates. Nonpharmacologic anxiety control has been demonstrated to be more suitable in pregnant women. The current study was a randomized, single-blind clinical trial which evaluated the effect of acupressure on preoperative C-section anxiety. In this study, 60 patients facing surgery were randomly divided into two groups of 30 patients each. Those patients in the intervention group received simultaneous acupressure at the Yintang and HE-7 acupoints for 5 minutes before surgery, and patients in the control group received intervention at a sham acupoint. The anxiety level of patients was preoperatively assessed twice using the Spielberger’s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. The mean anxiety scores of the two groups were shown to be insignificantly different before the intervention (p Z 0.859), whereas a significant difference between the mean anxiety scores of the two groups was observed after the intervention (p Z 0.001), suggesting that acupressure reduced the anxiety of patients before surgery.

Effect of Acupressure on Symptoms of Postoperative Ileus After Cesarean Section

        Faezeh Abadi,Maryam Shahabinejad,Foziyeh Abadi,Majid Kazemi 사단법인약침학회 2017 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.10 No.2

Postoperative ileus (POI) is a common complication after most abdominal surgeries including cesarean section. It is associated with longer hospitalization and increased medical costs. This study is a randomized controlled trial investigating the effect of acupressure, and low-cost noninvasive traditional treatment, on POI symptoms after cesarean section. A total of 120 patients were randomly divided into two groups; the treatment group received two sessions of acupressure (an hour after attending the women’s division; and 3 hours after the first session), each lasting 20 minutes. The time of flatus and defecation, time to presence of bowel sounds, and duration of postoperative bed rest were monitored. Patients in the treatment group had a shorter time to presence of bowel sounds compared with those in the control group (p < 0.001), as well as shorter time to first passage of flatus (p < 0.001) and shorter postoperative bed rest (pZ 0.005). However, the time to first defecation was not statistically significant (pZ 0.311). Acupressure has potential positive impacts on attenuating POI symptoms after cesarean section, and can be used as a low-cost noninvasive nursing care to reduce POI incidence and intensity after cesarean section.

Novel Off-Line Self-Tuning Controller with Guaranteed Stability

Abadi Ali Soltani Sharif,Ordys Andrew,Pierscionek Barbara 한국자동차공학회 2023 International journal of automotive technology Vol.24 No.3

Tuning control parameters is an essential task for the controller in all practical applications. This paper presents a new Lyapunov-based off-line self-tuning control (OSTC). method. The OSTC is a nonlinear controller with applications to nonlinear systems. The OSTC uses the settling point and settling time to tune the control parameters. The presented algorithm tested 150,000 simulations to formulate the control parameters. The tuning task is based on the integral of the absolute error (IAE). and integral of time multiplied by absolute error (ITAE). performance criteria. Simulink/MATLAB was employed to test the OSTC method by defining two regulation and tracking control problems. For each control problem, six practices are considered, and the proposed algorithm is validated by comparing the formulated Equations of the control parameters.

      • SEARCH FOR GRAVITATIONAL WAVES ASSOCIATED WITH GAMMA-RAY BURSTS DURING LIGO SCIENCE RUN 6 AND VIRGO SCIENCE RUNS 2 AND 3

        Abadie, J.,Abbott, B. P.,Abbott, R.,Abbott, T. D.,Abernathy, M.,Accadia, T.,Acernese, F.,Adams, C.,Adhikari, R. X.,Affeldt, C.,Agathos, M.,Agatsuma, K.,Ajith, P.,Allen, B.,Ceron, E. Amador,Amariutei, IOP Publishing 2012 The Astrophysical journal Vol.760 No.1

We present the results of a search for gravitational waves associated with 154 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) that were detected by satellite-based gamma-ray experiments in 2009-2010, during the sixth LIGO science run and the second and third Virgo science runs. We perform two distinct searches: a modeled search for coalescences of either two neutron stars or a neutron star and black hole, and a search for generic, unmodeled gravitational-wave bursts. We find no evidence for gravitational-wave counterparts, either with any individual GRB in this sample or with the population as a whole. For all GRBs we place lower bounds on the distance to the progenitor, under the optimistic assumption of a gravitational-wave emission energy of 10(-2) M-circle dot c(2) at 150 Hz, with a median limit of 17 Mpc. For short-hard GRBs we place exclusion distances on binary neutron star and neutron-star-black-hole progenitors, using astrophysically motivated priors on the source parameters, with median values of 16 Mpc and 28 Mpc, respectively. These distance limits, while significantly larger than for a search that is not aided by GRB satellite observations, are not large enough to expect a coincidence with a GRB. However, projecting these exclusions to the sensitivities of Advanced LIGO and Virgo, which should begin operation in 2015, we find that the detection of gravitational waves associated with GRBs will become quite possible.

A Real-Time Method for the Diagnosis of Multiple Switch Faults in NPC Inverters Based on Output Currents Analysis

Abadi, Mohsen Bandar,Mendes, Andre M.S.,Cruz, Sergio M.A. The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2016 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.16 No.4

This paper presents a new approach for fault diagnosis in three-level neutral point clamped inverters. The proposed method is based on the average values of the positive and negative parts of normalized output currents. This method is capable of detecting and locating multiple open-circuit faults in the controlled power switches of converters in half of a fundamental period of those currents. The implementation of this diagnostic approach only requires two output currents of the inverter. Therefore, no additional sensors are needed other than the ones already used by the control system of a drive based on this type of converter. Moreover, through the normalization of currents, the diagnosis is independent of the load level of the converter. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic technique are validated by experimental results obtained under steady-state and transient conditions.

A DFT and QSAR Study of Several Sulfonamide Derivatives in Gas and Solvent

Abadi, Robabeh Sayyadi kord,Alizadehdakhel, Asghar,Paskiabei, Soghra Tajadodi Korean Chemical Society 2016 대한화학회지 Vol.60 No.4

The activity of 34 sulfonamide derivatives has been estimated by means of multiple linear regression (MLR), artificial neural network (ANN), simulated annealing (SA) and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques. These models were also utilized to select the most efficient subsets of descriptors in a cross-validation procedure for non-linear -log (IC50) prediction. The results obtained using GA-ANN were compared with MLR-MLR, MLR-ANN, SA-ANN and GA-ANN approaches. A high predictive ability was observed for the MLR-MLR, MLR-ANN, SA-ANN and MLR-GA models, with root mean sum square errors (RMSE) of 0.3958, 0.1006, 0.0359, 0.0326 and 0.0282 in gas phase and 0.2871, 0.0475, 0.0268, 0.0376 and 0.0097 in solvent, respectively (N=34). The results obtained using the GA-ANN method indicated that the activity of derivatives of sulfonamides depends on different parameters including DP03, BID, AAC, RDF035v, JGI9, TIE, R7e+, BELM6 descriptors in gas phase and Mor 32u, ESpm03d, RDF070v, ATS8m, MATS2e and R4p, L1u and R3m in solvent. In conclusion, the comparison of the quality of the ANN with different MLR models showed that ANN has a better predictive ability.

      • Flow boiling visualization and heat transfer in metal-foam-filled mini tubes - Part I: Flow pattern map and experimental data

Bamorovat Abadi, G.,Moon, C.,Kim, K.C. Pergamon Press ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2016 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER - Vol.98 No.-

High-porosity open-cell metal foams are well known to enhance the heat transfer mechanism in rectangular or circular channels. Their high surface area to volume ratio makes them a great candidate for manufacturing high-performance small-scale heat exchangers. This two-part experimental study investigated the two-phase flow boiling inside a circular copper mini tube. In Part I, the flow pattern was visualized by high-speed imaging in glass tubes. Flow pattern maps, the heat transfer coefficient, and pressure drop are presented for mean vapor quality of 0.1-0.7, heat flux of 20-40kW/m2, and mass flux of 400-700kg/m2s. The experiments were also performed without the metal foam in the mini tube for comparison to the original data. In this range of experimental conditions, the metal foam increased the heat transfer coefficient up to 3.2 times. Also, as expected, the metal foams adversely affected the pressure drop inside the tubes.

Experimental study on single-phase heat transfer and pressure drop of refrigerants in a plate heat exchanger with metal-foam-filled channels

Bamorovat Abadi, Gholamreza,Moon, Chanhee,Kim, Kyung Chun Elsevier 2016 Applied thermal engineering Vol.102 No.-

Abstract

Metal-foam-filled channels are proposed to increase the heat transfer area between hot and cold flows in plate heat exchangers. This experimental study focuses on the single-phase heat transfer mechanism of R245fa refrigerant in a metal-foam-filled plate heat exchanger instead of more commonly used air or water in single-phase experiments. The refrigerant-side heat-transfer coefficient and pressure-drop data are reported. Different metal foams with various pore densities of values of 20, 30, and 60pore per inch (PPI) were examined. Cases were studied with uniform PPI and with two different PPI along the flow direction. A complete heat exchanger test section with an overall volume of 0.001m3 that is able to generate 1–2kW heat duty in this range of experimental conditions is manufactured. The result shows that inserting 60-PPI metal foam increases the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficient by up to 5.1 times compared to the plate heat exchanger without the metal foam insert. As expected, the pressure drop penalty is huge. The 60-PPI metal foam had the greatest pressure drop, which was 5.7 times that of an empty-channel heat exchanger.

Highlights

Heat exchanger with metal-foam-filled channels is manufactured.

Single-phase experiments are performed.

The effect of metal foam configuration and pore density is analyzed.

With 60PPI metal foam the overall HTC increased by 5.1 times.

With 60PPI metal foam the pressure drop increased by 5.7 times.

      • DNMT3B -149 C>T and -579 G>T Polymorphisms and Risk of Gastric and Colorectal Cancer: a Meta-analysis

        Khoram-Abadi, Khadijeh Mirzaee,Forat-Yazdi, Mohammad,Kheirandish, Shahnaz,Saeidi, Nasim,Zarezade, Zeinab,Mehrabi, Nahid,Neamatzadeh, Hossein Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.6

Background: Numerous studies have investigated associations of DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) -149 C>T and -579 G>T polymorphisms with gastric cancer (GC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) susceptibility; however, the findings are inconsistent prompting the present meta-analysis. Materials and Methods: Related studies were identified from PubMed, Google scholar, and SID until 10 October 2015. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the strength of the associations. Results: Eleven studies were included based on the search criteria for CRC and GC related to the DNMT3B 149 C>T (3,353 cases and 4,936 controls) and DNMT3B 579 G>T (1,387 cases and 2,064 controls) polymorphisms. There was no significant association overall between DNMT3B -149 and 579 polymorphisms and the risk of cancer. In the stratified analysis by cancer type, DNMT3B 579G>T polymorphism was associated with the risk of CRC and GC. While the DNMT3B -149C/T polymorphism was related with a significantly increased risk of CRC in two tested models, dominant (GG+GT vs. TT: OR 0.51, 95 % CI 0.38-0.69; P = 0.00, Pheterogeneity=0.69, $I^2=0%$) and heterozygote (GT vs. TT: OR 0.50, 95 % CI 0.37-0.69; P=0.00, Pheterogeneity=0.41, $I^2=0%$), no evidence of any association with GC risk was observed as in the pooled analyses. Conclusions: More studies are needed to assess associations of DNMT3B -149C/T and DNMT3B 579G>T polymorphisms with cancer in different ethnicities with large population sizes to generate comprehensive conclusions.
