The progressive die among the press working performs a series of fundamental sheet metal processes with multi-stages, particularly this study regards to develop of multi stage strip process layout for thick sheet metal(STS 304, 0.5㎜) forming process as a specific division. In order to prevent a defect on the production, the analysis of production part, optimum design of strip process layout etc. are necessary. In this study, we designed and predicted the progressive die design result of by wide collected data base through the field experiences, theoretical back ground and computer aided FEM simulation.

In this study, we designed and predicted the progressive die design result of by wide collected data base through the field experiences, theoretical back ground and computer aided FEM simulation(DEFORM 3D) for the STS 304 sheet metal forming part. Also, due to this process was accomplished as a good will, it was satified die making and tryout.

The production parts have required multiple processes such as drawing, piercing, blanking and notching etc. are performed with a high production rates in progressive die. In order to prevent the defects of process result, the optimization of strip process layout design, die design, die making, and tryout etc. are needed. According to these factors of die development process, it has been required that the theory and practice of metal working process and its phenomena, die structure, machining conditions for die making, die materials, heat treatment of die components, processing know-how and so on. In this study, we designed and analyzed die components through the carrying out of upper relevant matters also simulated the strip process layout of multiple stage drawing by DEFORM. Especially the result of tryout and its analysis became to the feature of this study with a system of PDDC(Progressive Die design by computer).
A Study on the Development of Practical and Adaptive Progressive Die for Very Thick Sheet Metals

In the field of design and making tool for press working, the progressive die for very thick sheet metal(SS41, 4mm) is a specific division. In order to prevent the defects, the optimum design of the production part, Strip layout, die design, die making and tryout etc. are necessary. They require analysis of many kinds of important factors, i.e. theory and practice of metal working process and its phenomena, die structure, machining condition for die making, die materials, heat treatment of die component, know-how and so on. In this study, we designed and constructed a progressive die of multi stage and tried out through the I-DEAS, DEFORM, and CAD/CAM application. Out of these processes, the die development could be taken advanced technology. Especially the result of try out and its analysis become to the characteristic of this study.
