Stenospermocarpic seedless grape cultivars have commonly been used for introducing seedlessness in breeding programs. For improving breeding efficiency for seedless grape cultivars, ovule culture was conducted to find the proper methods for germinating immature ovules and regenerating plantlets of stenospermocarpic seedless cultivars. The optimal harvesting and excising time of ovules from the berries of ‘Cheongsoo’, ‘Benizawa’, and ‘Himrod Seedless’ using the Nitch and Nitch (NN) culture media of NN-3, NN-2, and NN-3 were found to be 50, 50, and 40 days after full bloom, respectively. Under these conditions, the ovule germinations were 2.5, 10.0, and 25.0% for ‘Cheongsoo’, ‘Benizawa’, and ‘Himrod Seedless’, respectively. ‘Himrod Seedless’ was considered to be the best among the stenospermocarpic grape cultivars tested for in vitro ovule culture in the present study. Plantlets from the ovule culture could successfully be regenerated.
