        Some empirical arguments in favor of the PF approach to head movement will be suggested by criticizing and revising some recent work proposed by Lasnik (1995, 1999, 2001) and Boeckx and Stjepanovic' (2001). The central idea argued for in this paper is that whereas XP-movement is syntactically driven to satisfy the Extended Projection Principle, X0-movement is a pure PF process. On the basis of the idea above, an alternative approach to pseudo-gapping and sluicing constructions will be suggested by introducing the notion of focus into the system. Finally, it will be demonstrated that ellipsis provides an alternative to head raising if and only if focus is involved in Phonetic Form (PF).

        공백화(Gapping), 의사공백화 (Pseudogapping), 동사구생략(VPE)구문의 비교분석

        Agbayani & Zoerner(2004) suggest that gapping and pseudogapping both involve the application of verb movement, in particular sideward movement of the main verb based on Johnson's(1994) across-the-board movement. They claims that the VPE analysis of Pseudogapping cannot be maintained. On the other hand, Johnson(2009) claims that gapping and pseudogapping are distinct constructions, despite their tempting similarities. He considers pseudogapping to be a special instance of VP-ellipsis, while gapping is a special instance of across-the-board movement. This study aims to mainly investigate these two approaches, along with the traditional PF deletion analyses advocated by Lasnik(1995, 1996. 2000) and Boeckx & Stjepanovi(2001). I present some empirical evidence for a sideward movement analysis on gapping and pseudogapping constructions, unlike VPE constructions, by retailing Agbayani & Zoerner's(2004) approach.

        데이터분석을 통한 확대투사원리의 효율성 제고

        본 연구는 다양한 언어 데이터 분석을 통해 최소주의에서의 확대투사원리에 대한 대안을 제시하는데 역점을 둔다. 확대투사원리는 두 가지 원리에서 도출되는데, 하나는 표준이론에서의 투사원리이고 다른 하나는 주어위치는 반드시 채워야 한다는 요건을 근거한다. 이 두 원리가 하나로 병합된 확대투사원리는 이후에 계속해서 그 개념이 변한다. 최소주의 출현 이전에는 격에 의존적이었으나, Chomsky(1995)의 최소주의 하에서는 범주자질 [D]의 특성으로 귀착된다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 위치 도치 구문, 허사 there 구문, 결속이론과 같은 구문에서의 다양한 언어 데이터를 분석하여 굴절어구의 지정어 위치는 최대로 투사된 어휘항목에 의해 반드시 채워져야 한다는 대안을 제시한다. Main concern will be put at suggesting an alternative idea about the basic notion of the Extended Projection Principle (henceforth, ECP) which has been slightly changed since the initial appearance of the EPP. The EPP had been dependent on Case and theta-role under the era of the early generative grammar, whereas it was reduced only to the categorial feature [D] under the minimalism. Various data such as Locative Inversion constructions, there-expletive constructions, and sentences related to binding theory will be dealt with to suggest an plausible alternative idea. As a conclusion, it will be attested that the SPEC position of the inflectional clause should be filled with a maximally projected lexical item. This conclusion will be reached by analyzing lots of linguistic data.

        부정문의 화용론적 기능과 양상에 대한 재고

        전통적인 관점에서 부정문은 진리조건의 진리치를 반전시키는 것으로 간주되 어, 진리치가 ‘진’인 어떤 명제를 부정문으로 변환하면 진리치가 ‘거짓’으로 전환되고, 역으로 거짓인 어떤 명제를 부정하면 진리치가 진으로 변경되는 것으로 인지되어 왔다. 그러나 어떤 명제를 부정하면 단순히 이분법적으로 진리치를 반전하는 것이 아니라, 표현한 발화의 어떤 양상을 거부하는 많은 부정 표현들이 존재한다. 따라서 부정문은 어떤 명제의 진리치를 반전하는 전통적인 관점의 부정문인 서술적 부정과 선행된 발화의 태도, 상태, 정도 등과 같은 발화의 어떤 양상을 부정하는 상위 언어적 부정으로 일반적으로 구분한다. 본 연구는 서술적 부정과 상위 언어적 부정이 어떤 차이가 있는지 분석하여, 두 부정의 차이가 부정문의 분석에 어떻게 적용되는지 살펴본다. 이런 관점에서 특히 양인석의 ‘척 도눈금부정’ 가설의 이론적 문제점을 분석하여 척도와 등급을 매길 수 있는 의미 함축을 지닌 부정문에 대한 수정된 대안을 제시한 The negative connective, not, is considered to be a pure reverser of truth-values in the classical aspects of negation, turning P to ∽P and ∽∽P to P. If a proposition P has the value T then ∽P has the value F; conversely if P is F, then ∽P is T. Lyons asserts that “The closest approximation to the negation connective in more or less ordinary English is ‘it is not the case that...’ which converts Anthony loved Cleopatra to It is not the case that Anthony loved Cleopatra” (143). However, there are lots of negative expressions which do not simply deny a proposition, but reject certain aspects of the utterance expressing a proposition. Some special attention is paid to the two types of negation: the ‘descriptive negation’ which negates the truth of a proposition and the ‘meta-linguistic negation’ which objects to the manner or degree of a previous utterance. This paper explores how a distinction between DN and MN could be made and how the difference could be applied for the analysis of negation. My special concern is with analyzing Yang’s Scale-Point Negation and then to suggest a revised solution to the negation of scalar and gradable implication.

        동사탈락구문에서의 핵 운용 연구

        This study is a comprehensive critique of PF head movement in verb elliptical constructions, most advocated in recent minimalist studies, most notably Lasnik (1995, 1999) and Boeckx & Stjepanovic' (2001), and aims at arguing for the sideward copy movement of the verb, proposed by Agbayani & Zoerner (2004). The basic data for this study are about Gapping, Pseudogapping, and Verb Phrases Ellipsis (VPE) constructions that can cross a sentence boundary. Lasnik argues that there are two possibilities for a convergent derivation; either the head can raise, presumably checking the relevant strong features, or the category contained the head can be deleted as a PF repair strategy. But this account may cause a severe problem of "look ahead" operations, based on one of the global Economy Principles, Procrastinate, which could not be tenable anymore. Boeckx & Stjepanovic' (2001) also claim to have evidence from the analysis of Pseudogapping that head movement is best viewed as occurring, not in the overt syntax, but in the PF component. They assume that the trigger of PF head movement is not featural, but may well be morphological, or prosodic, or as a mixture of the two. However, this analysis might immediately arise a question of what triggers ellipsis, when verb raising and ellipsis compete in PF. Agbayani & Zoerner (2004) argue that Gapping and Pseudogapping involve the application of verb movement, in particular the sideward movement of the verb, proposed by Nunes (2001) and Nunes & Uriagereka (2001) for the possibility of sideward movement out of coordinate structures and adjunct clause. They present persuasive evidence that Pseudogapping and VPE are fundamentally unrelated transformationally, but Gapping and Pseudogapping share verb movement across the board. This sideward movement analysis is most meaningful to seek simplicity in Grammar. This paper puts focus on attesting an overt syntactic approach to head movements in elliptical constructions, following Agbayni & Zorner (2004)'s sideward copy movement.

        확대투사원리의 제거와 대안 분석

        The Extended Projection Principle (EPP) has been in the center of theorizing within the generative grammar. But the nature of the EPP has recently been claimed to be a pervasive mystery and unclear. Several attempts have been suggested to deduce it from deeper principles. Bošković(2002) provided some arguments against the EPP approach by separating EPP phenomena into two groups: final EPP, consisting of arguments that the final landing site of A-movement must be filled to satisfy the EPP; and intermediate EPP, consisting of arguments that intermediate [Spec,IP]s must be filled to satisfy the EPP. He argues that the final EPP effects could be deduced from the Inverse Case filter and the intermediate EPP could be explained by the successive cyclicity, namely, Minimize Chain Links Principle (MCLP). Epstein, Pires & Seely (2005) attempt to provide a solution to the problems regarding non-control infinitival complements of nouns that has been argued to provide independent motivation for the retention of the EPP without appealing to EPP by modifying Bosˇkovic´ & lasnik's (2003) theory of null complementizers. The main conclusion is that the domain of application wherein the EPP applies nonredundantly could be deduced and ultimately should be eliminated.

        내현적 이동(covert movement)에 대한 고찰

        Recent studies of the effects of covert A-Movement on binding relations have tended to support the idea that covert movement, whatever its nature, does not cause any change in the possible binding relations at the LF interface. Only movement of the full phrase, visible in the overt syntax, brings about binding-theoretic effects. However, this paper aims to provide some evidence that this idea cannot be maintained and that covert movement still affects binding relations. In the case where overt movement does not take place, we still find binding relations that elsewhere indicate that some form of movement has occurred. Evidently, overt movement is not necessary to establish changes in binding relations; covert movement does suffice.

        안드로이드 플랫폼 기반의 경력관리시스템 구축

        본 논문에서는 MBTI, 적성검사 결과와 외국어(TOEIC, 회화, 작문) 능력 등을 관리하고, 재학기간 동안 현장실습, 인턴십, 프로젝트 참여, 졸업작품전, 공모전 수상 등의 실적을 관리할 수 있는 안드로이드 플랫폼 기반의 경력관리시스템을 설계하고 구현한다. 이 경력관리시스템은 서버와 클라이언트 모듈로 나누어진다. 첫 번째 서버 모듈은 경력관리시스템의 웹 사이트를 구축한다. 이 웹 사이트는 학생 개인의 경력 관련 데이터를 저장하는 기능을 한다. 두 번째 클라이언트 모듈은 안드로이드 플랫폼 기반의 앱을 개발 한다.이 앱은 학생 개인의 경력 관련 정보에 쉽게 접근하여 항상 새로운 데이터를 유지 관리할 수 있는 기능을 제공한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 경력관리시스템을 활용한다면 대학의 관련 부서들이 학생 서비스 기능을 활성화 할 수 있고, 학생들의 부가가치를 높임으로써 취업 경쟁력을 향상시킬 수 있다. In this paper, we propose a CMS(Career Management System) based on the Android Platform, which is able to manage the result of MBTI, an aptitude test and English skills such as TOEIC, conversation, writing, etc. and to deal with the performance of the on-the-job practice, internship, project participation, graduation exhibition, contest exhibition, etc. during the period of attendance at school, This system is divided into the server module and the client one. First, the server module is used to build up the web site of the CMS that can serve to save the data related to each student's career. Second, the client module is to develop the application based on the Android Platform. This application can easily access the career-related information and always function as maintaining and managing the new data. If we make good use of the CMS proposed in this study, the relevant departments and bureaus in colleges and universities can activate the service capacity and also enhance the employment competitiveness by adding value to the students.

        음성형태 병합분석과 다중문자화

        The goal of this article is to investigate the notion of Multiple Spell-Out, most advocated in recent minimalist studies such as Epstein (1999), Uriagereka (1999), Chomsky (2000, 2001, 2005) and Bošković (2001), etc., and then to clarify how to apply this notion to some syntactic derivations, especially placing emphasis on the PF merger procedures. To begin with, we attested the adequacy of the Multiple Spell-Out model in syntactic derivations, with a comprehensive critique of the Single Spell-Out model included. Next, we also investigated how the input data for PF merger can be analyzed under the Multiple Spell-Out model in the aspects of both verbal morphology and syntactic derivations. Unlike Chomsky’s (1999, 2000) assumption, this study proposed that all the maximal nodes be candidates for Spell-Outs and that those Spell-Outs be activated only when each specifier position is filled with the moved syntactic object(s). This study proposed the Multiple Spell-Out Condition as an alternative approach to Ausin(1999)’s Matching Principle. In conclusion, this study showed us that this condition could be an effective and proper solution to the problems caused in the single Spell-Out model.

        On Advantages and Disadvantages of Compulsory Major Convergence

        The government has proposed a development model for universities to strengthen the capacity of the College of Humanities as part of the university restructuring policy in line with the trend of the times, and encouraged each university to voluntarily induce the establishment of the humanities development plan through financial support under their own individual conditions. With the decline in the school-age population due to the declining fertility rate, the rapid change in the industrial structure has highlighted the decline in the employment rate of the students of the humanities. Therefore, the government is implementing university grading based on the results of the university structural reform evaluation, and pressing low-grade universities through reduction of capacity and reduction of support. In the course of this change, universities have designated the College of Humanities as the primary target of integration with other majors or and its disintegration. This study examines the direction of the government`s attempt to change the humanities in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and suggests a precedent example during the reform of the humanities college. If the humanities college is integrated with practical studies such as management, design, IT, CT, and engineering, the strengths of the humanities can be highlighted. However, the results of this study suggest that many variables such as consideration of students` aptitudes and interests in the integration process of majors, autonomy in major selection, understanding between departments integrated, and demand for a single major before integration or disintegration should be considered. In addition, an example of a local private university shows that the hasty attempt to integrate or disintegrate the humanities can rather lead to various educational harms.
