농도(0, 10, 20, 30%, w/w)를 달리한 sucrose가 혼합된 고구마 전분 페이스트(5% w/w)의 정상유동 특성과 동적 점탄특성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 평가하였다. 고구마전분-sucrose 복합물의 정상유동 특성은 power law 모델 및 Casson 모델로부터 레올로지 계수를 결정하였다. 일정한 온도(25℃)에서 모든 시료들은 높은 항복응력과 함께 pseudoplastic과 thixotropic 거동을 나타내었다. 고구마전분-sucrose 복합물의 점조도 지수(K), 겉보기 점도(η<SUB>a</SUB>), 그리고 항복응력(σ<SUB>oc</SUB>) 값들은 control(0% sucrose)에 비해 10% sucrose가 더 높았으며, 또한 sucrose 농도(10-30%)가 증가함에 따라 이들 값들은 감소하였다. 팽윤력은 30% 농도에서 급격한 감소를 나타내었고, 레올로지 계수(K, η<SUB>a</SUB>, σ<SUB>oc</SUB>)값이 낮게 나타난 시료는 낮은 팽윤력을 보여주었다. 온도 의존성은 25-70℃ 온도 범위에서 Arrhenius 관계식에 의하여 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다. 또한 동적 점탄특성 측정 결과에 의하면 고구마전분-sucrose 복합물은 약한 젤과 같은 거동을 보여주었으며, G′과 G″ 값들은 sucrose 농도와 진동수(ω)가 증가함에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보였다. Cox-Merz 중첩원리는 30% sucrose 농도를 가진 고구마전분-sucrose 복합물에서 잘 적용되는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 sucrose 첨가에 의해 고구마전분 페이스트의 레올로지 특성이 변화하게 되며, 이들 특성은 sucrose의 농도에 의해 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. Effects of sucrose at different concentrations (0, 10, 20, and 30%, w/w) on steady and dynamic shear rheological properties of sweet potato starch (SPS) paste (5%, w/w) were investigated. The steady shear rheological properties of SPS-sucrose composites were determined from rheological parameters based on power law and Casson flow models. At 25℃ all the samples showed pseudoplastic and thixoropic behavior with high yield stress. Consistence index (K), apparent viscosity (η<SUB>a,100</SUB>), and yield stress (σ<SUB>oc</SUB>) values of SPS-sucrose composites decreased with increasing sucrose concentration from 10% to 30%. The decrease of swelling power was observed at higher sucrose concentration (>20%) and the low swelling power yielded a lower K, η<SUB>a,100</SUB>, and σ<SUB>oc</SUB> values. In temperature range of 25-70℃, Arrhenius equation adequately assessed variation with temperature. Oscillatory test data showed weak gel-like behavior. Magnitudes of storage (G′) and loss (G″) moduli increased with an increase in sucrose concentration and frequency. The SPS-sucrose composite at 30% concentration closely followed the Cox-Merz superposition rule.

Although cationic surfactants can cause eye irritation at high concentration, it has some merits in hair conditioning function and has been commonly used in hair conditioning product as a main component. For these reasons, the selection and use of milder cationic surfactant is important in safety of cosmetics. With the use of the hen`s egg test-chorioallantoic membrane (HET-CAM) assay, we examined the eye irritation potential for several cationic surfactant according to chemical structure properties. The eye irritation potential of cationic surfactant was increased according to increasing number of alkyl chain, alkyl chain length. And the cationic surfactant that neutralized to methosulfate causes lower irritation than cationic surfactant of chloride. From these results, we can determine the eye irritation potentials of cationic surfactant according to chemical structure.

This study was aimed to identify the effect of recombinant human Granulocyte Macrophge-Colony Stimulating Factor (rhGM-CSF) on the mucous membrane of hamster cheek pouch. After anesthetized with ketamine and xylazine, hamsters were topically administered with rhGM-CSF at the dose of 0.4 ㎍/㎖, 2㎍/㎖, 10 ㎍/㎖, 50 ㎍/㎖, and 250 ㎍/㎖ for 14 days. The thickness of the sratum basale, stratum spinosum, and stratum corneum was determined in each group. And cell proliferation in mucosal layer was also evaluated by immunohistochemistry. The thickness of stratum spinosum increased in the group administered with rhGM-CSF of 0.4 ㎍/㎖ (1.75㎛±0.69), but decreased in the groups administered with that of over 2 ㎍/㎖. In immunohistochemistry, high Ki-67 positive response was also detected in the hamster administered with rhGM-CSF of 0.4㎍/㎖. This study showed that rhGM-CSF induces the epithelial proliferation at concentration of 0.4㎍/㎖.

The purpose of this study is to conceptualize male college student`s misogyny based on previous studies of psychiatry, feminism, and social conflict perspectives. We explored the components and latent structure of misogyny that could capture the complex nature of this concept. We also examined associations between male college student`s misogyny and the effects of related variables. Two hundred and thirty-one male undergraduates from eleven universities in Seoul, South Korea completed a questionnaire that measured misogyny, antisocial attitude, subjective well-being, experience being rejected by women, male-dominated dating behavior, traditional gender-role attitudes of parents, conformity with misogynistic online communities, and job seeking stress. The major findings of the study are as follows. First, the confirmatory factor analysis provided three second-order misogyny factors (hostility toward women, hostile sexism, and acceptance of violence), suggesting a reasonable conceptualization of misogyny. Second, male college students reported low levels of misogyny, moderate levels of job-seeking stress, and slightly high levels of life satisfaction. Third, the hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed that male students with higher levels of antisocial attitudes and conformity with misogynistic online communities were more likely to have high levels of misogyny, while those with higher levels of life satisfaction were more likely to have low levels of misogyny. The implications of these results are discussed for assessment, intervention, and prevention of misogyny and hate crime.

The hen`s egg test-chorioallantoic membrane (HET-CAM) assay has been used as an alternative method to Draize rabbit eye irritation test. We have established an internal safety guideline for determination of eye irritation potential of cosmetics and cosmetic ingredients when using HET-CAM assay as an alternative method to Draize rabbit eye irritation test; Potential cosmetic ingredients with [S] score above 6 at concentrations of use are not permitted as cosmetic ingredients and eye cosmetics with [S] score above 12 are not allowed in internal safety guideline. Following this guideline, we examined the eye irritation potential for several potential cosmetic ingredients and, as results we could exclude the use of some natural pigments that show the eye irritation.
DNCB 유발 피부염 생쥐에서 보스웰리아가 피부조직 모발주기 관련 유전자에 미치는 영향

The fact that the skin and scalp are always exposed to external environment makes them easily susceptible to inflammatory problem caused by various chemicals or physical stimuli. In this context, the current study examined how Boswellia affects the hair cycle of inflammatory skin or scalp caused by DNCB (2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene) in mice. For the study, 5 week-old male Balb/c mice were selected and DNCB was used to cause contact dermatitis in the mice’s skin at the back. Next, Boswellia was administered and all visual changes in the skin were followed. Furthermore, histological analysis and transcription through hematoxylin & eosin dyeing method were done to understand Boswell's mechanism of action toward atopic dermatitis. The symptoms of dermatitis visually appeared to be significantly improved on Boswellia administration. Histological analysis showed the keratin layer in the DNCB-B group and the shape of a hair follicle as round. Analysis of transcriptionome revealed an increase in gene Gprc5d, Msx2, Ptch2, Wnt10b, Dsg4, Kratap4-16, Hc16, Apcdox and S21 mR in the DNCB-B group compared to the positive control DNCB group. In conclusion, Boswellia administration was found to help improve the symptoms of DNCB dermatitis, and the changes in hair-related gene expression might improve the hair cycle or growth impediments caused by dermatitis.

Oral hygiene products, such as toothpastes, are essential for personal hygiene. However, these products contain substances that cause mucosal irritation but are essential to maintain functionality. Until now, there is no in vitro animal test to evaluate oral mucosal irritation for oral hygiene products and its ingredients. Moreover, oral hygiene products are classified as cosmetics in EU, thus the irritation test for these products and its ingredients are prohibited. In Korea, oral products are classified as quasi-drugs now, but there is a high possibility to change to cosmetics according to global trends. So we needed to set up the in vitro test system to evaluate oral mucosal irritation and we studied the oral mucosal irritation for toothpaste and its ingredients by agar diffusion test. In the evaluation of ingredients, the use of surfactant, tooth whitening ingredient and some functional ingredients affect the increase of cytotoxicity. In addition, when diluted to 25%, the toothpastes showed the broad range of irritation and it was appropriate to judge the level of irritation. From the results, we can set the evaluating method for toothpaste and its ingredients and internal criteria for the mucosal irritation at same time.

Although ammonia can cause eye irritation such as lacrimation, periobital edema and conjunctivitis at high concentration, it has some merits in hair dying function and has been commonly used in hair dye product. However, there are no proper alternative methods for evaluation of the eye irritation potential of volatile material such as ammonia. We have established a new method for determination of eye irritation potential of volatile materials and formulations containing volatile materials by modification of HET-CAM (Hen`s egg test- chorioallantoic membrane) assay. While original HET-CAM assay cannot determine the eye irritation potentials of hair dyes that contain ammonia, modified method can determine the eye irritation potentials of hair dyes that contain ammonia. These results suggest that the modified HET-CAM assay is useful to evaluate the eye irritation potential of volatile materials.
