Biomass gasification is an important option of renewable energy production. During the gasification process, tar is inevitably produced and it can cause many mechanical and chemical problems like plugging and fouling of pipes or oxidation of the gasification system. In this study, tar reforming was investigated by using solid materials such as sand, activated carbon and dolomite. The experimental apparatus consists of two reactors which are connected in series: a lab scale atmospheric bubbling bed gasifier and a secondary fixed/bubbling bed tar reformer. A preliminary result will be presented.

Heat generation of chip is recently increasing due to high performance and miniaturization trend of electronic devices, while the thickness and area of the devices are limited. When heat is not released quickly from the chip attached to the printed circuit board (PCB), the temperature of chip will continue to rise, resulting in poor performance and durability. Therefore, it is important to design heat dissipation of PCBs to effectively release heat from chip. Heat from the chip is transferred to the PCB through conduction, and discharged from the PCB and the chips surface to the outside air through convection. In this study, two structure of heatsinks were applied for effective cooling of heat generated from a gallium nitride field effect transistor (GaN-FET), and the heat dissipation characteristics were analyzed according to each heatsink structure using numerical analysis.

Application of syngas from RPF(Refused Plastic Fuel) on a power generation engine is investigated in a pilot scale test rig. The syngas was generated from a stoker type pyrolysis-gasification system of multi-staged waste pyrolysis process and experiments were conducted on a 20㎾e commercial syngas power generation engine. The syngas is mainly composed of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and methane and the performance of the engine was tested with various syngas composition. Electric power output and exhaust gas emissions are monitored for syngas and compared with the result of LNG case. This is a preliminary result of the application of waste syngas on a power generation engine.

CFD modeling of coal gasification in an E-Gas™ gasifier was conducted with an improved char gasification model using commercial code, ANSYS FLUENT14.0, in order to study the effect of the coal size on the gasification performance. The CFD modeling was carried out by solving the three-dimensional, steady-state Navier-Stokes equations with the Eulerian-Lagrangian method. In order to solve char gasification reactions, the random pore model with bulk and pore diffusion effects was considered via a user-defined function(UDF).
