Vol.26 No.2Ⅱ

Exposition that view from ergonomic point about visitor's behavior through visiting type. Through analyzing visit processing behavior as cognitive point of view, we can recognize that attention raising have each different matters as different behaviors of visiting type. Museum space design that considered about visitor's attention property who have low museum visiting-frequency, should be accomplished first. In last part of watching, we should keep attention level by exhibition design to tempt visitors who have high visiting-frequency. Also we should prepare space for viewers of group viewing with same vessel that isn't confused and having enough exhibition area. These designs will be attention design that can help all visitor to have high attention efficiency. If designer and architects who affect to museum space design have more understanding about visitors through studying data about visitor's ergonomical response that operated at exhibition's environment, museum space design for provider setting can be changed into museum space design for visitors.

This research is a method for providing a better exhibit experience to visitors, and is a basic research for finding a way to appropriately relieve factors that evoke museum fatigue. The visitor within the exhibition space will increase in museum fatigue even through superior exhibition plan and arrangement. Appropriately controlling this museum fatigue means a better exhibition experience for the visitor. This study plans an appropriate arrangement and formation through analyzing the types and features of space for relieving museum fatigue of the visitor. The progression of research is through observation of the visitor's behavior of rest through the actions of the visitor's rest and the features of the museum's recovery space. The most important factor that affects the actions of the visitor taking rest was the mutual recognition between the visitors within the exhibition hall and compensative act on the fatigue due to concentration on the exhibit that is generated in the exhibition space. Through this result, we attempt to suggest a more specific alternative to recovering space for museum fatigue through later research.

The purpose of the exhibition space is to provide the exhibition information to visitors. Visitors form a viewing pathway in order to obtain information. There are un-used spaces which do not visually lead to or suggest a pathway. These spaces deprive opportunity for visitors to collect exhibition information to visitors. Furthermore, non-attractive exhibition do not attract visitors. This study was carried out at the National Gwacheon of Science Museum exhibition. It explored the possible ways to improve the exhibition space using the quantitative analysis data. As a result, it showed viewing 25 exhibits in 8 minutes proved to provide more opportunities for visitors than viewing 19 exhibits in 5 minutes. Method of these studies, is utilized in practice, in order to develop complementary measures through the ex-post evaluation of the future of the exhibition It is expected to provide us with a logical and rational way.

People come to museum to have a look at the exhibition. The pathway they take while viewing the exhibition is linked to the spatial structure of the museum. In particular, the pathway in the exhibition space is influenced by the layout of the exhibits. People tend to choose their pathway naturally according to their purpose and their conditions of museum-fatigue without having to plan it prior to it. And it’s at this moment, that active and passive pathway is noticed. The distance of the pathway is determined by the structure of the exhibition room. The study was done on the layout of the exhibits. It showed that people chose their pathways depending on the location of the exits. When the exit was far away, people became tired quickly by the length of the exhibition room even for the active visitors. On the other hand, when the exits were nearby, it provided more opportunity to show the exhibits for the passive visitors. As the study was done in understanding the specific needs of the layout of the exhibits, it will provide more pleasant and effective view of the exhibition and the planning of the exhibits to the visitors.

This research is a study of visitor’s choice of circulation effect by the visual perception. ESA which stands for the Exhibition Space Analyzer has been developed to calculate the extent of visibility that would affect the choice of visitor’s circulation. ESA uses two indicators to calculate the visitor’s exhibition experiences through visual perception such as EE, the Exposure Extent and VCE, Visual Circulation Exposure. EE is an index that indicates a level of visual exposure of a display and VCE is an index that indicates an extent of recognition of the exhibition from the visitor under the environment of exhibition. It is available to measure the extent of exposure of the exhibition based on an visitor’s position. Moreover, it is possible to interpret the exhibition’s exposure extent when a continuous variation has been made in visitor’s position. Through this experimental research, it is revealed in detail that the movements of the visitors will be greatly effect by the visual perception that has been exposed in a composition of the exhibition space. This study will be a good source to comprehend while planning a good improvement in a environment of exhibition.

VCT, the main contents of this study, has a logical basis on Isovist concept of Benedikt(1979) and visual exposure of Archea(1984) and the concept of VAE(Visual, Access & Exposure). Isovist Analysis and visual analysis are access systems for spaces. On the other hand, VCT is the way mainly to analyze components for exhibitions. The purpose of this study is to develop tools to make sense of audiences" patterns of their behaviors. To suggest this method can be a try to understand museum spaces on the new viewpoint as well as the research standpoint of the existing space syntax. This attempt will be possible to make good use for a accessible study methodology with various points of view with tools to analyze exhibition spaces for the existing space syntax hereafter.
