Hydrogen production with SOEC (Soild Oxide Electrolysis Cell)is promising technology as sustainable and clean energy productions. Because SOEC with heat source has very high electrical efficiency, nuclear reactor with SOEC is efficient energy production system. In this research, characteristics of SOEC is investigated. SOEC is operated at 800℃ and 50~90 vol% of steam condition. The experiment is conducted with different steam volume fraction.

Soild Oxide Electrolysis Cell(SOEC) is one of the most efficient hydrogen production system. SOEC with electrical power can convert steam to pure hydrogen and oxygen. However, SOEC system has problems with cathode, because of rich steam environment. In this research, relationship of cathode and operating condition of SOEC is investigated. SOEC single cells are tested with different steam and hydrogen ratio. SOECs are operated in 800℃ and 50~100% steam volume fraction.

The performance behavior of solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) was investigated. Initial performance of the cell as solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) mode at 800℃ was measured as 0.15 W/㎠. The SOEC showed the stable performance during 5 hours operation at -0.15A/㎠. The power for electrolysis was increased during first 30 minutes operation due to the increase of internal resistance of the cell. After 5 hours operation, the degradation rate of SOEC performance was about 3% due to redox reaction of hydrogen electrode.
