최근 우리사회에서는 여성의 경제활동참여가 확대되면서 영유아 및 가정을 위한 보육서비스에 대한 사회적 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 보육교사와 관련하여 신문기사와 TV뉴스에서 보도된 담론을 살펴보고, Gee의 담론분석 방법을 통해 텍스트의 언어 작용과 보육교사 담론이 구성하는 이념과 실제를 비판적 관점에서 분석하였다. 연구결과, 신문기사와 TV뉴스의 보육교사에 대한 담론은 ‘보육교사’, ‘보육서비스’, ‘아동학대’의 유형으로 도출되었고, 보육교사에 대한 우리사회의 논점을 반영하는 거대담화로 간주되었다. 또한 보육교사 담론으로 분류된 70편의 보도 텍스트를 분석한 결과, 보육교사들은 지도관리가 필요한 규제의 대상으로 승인되어 영아보육에 대한 전문성을 배제 받고 있었다. 보육교사 담론에서는 보육교사의 열악한 근무환경과 처우에 대한 개선 요구가 높았으나 노동자로서의 권리 보장과 교사로서의 책무 간에 이중 잣대가 나타났다. 결론적으로 신문기사와 TV뉴스의 담론에서 보육교사는 양육자 정체성을 지니고 모성을 대리하는 역할을 수행하였으며, 교사-양육자로서 중첩된 전문성을 요구받으며 이중으로 소외되고 있음이 나타났다. The provision of early childhood education and care for children and families has received growing attention in Korean society, as women laborers are necessarily required in sustaining the economy. This study examined how childcare teachers have been represented in the Korean news by utilizing discourse analysis on newspaper articles and television news. Gee’s approach was adopted as a tool of inquiry into the details of language used in the texts and into what the discourses intend to accomplish in the world by the way in which they have used the aforementioned language. This analysis identified three major big “C” conversations focused on “childcare teachers, childcare services, and child abuse.” The detailed analysis on language used in the texts revealed disciplined, marginalized, and self-sacrificial discourses on childcare teachers, being conceptualized as subcontracted mothers. A double standard was set at work between laborer wellbeing and teacher accountability in the discourses regarding wages and working conditions for childcare teachers. These discourses may contribute to the childcare teachers’ ambiguous professionalism complicated by teaching and caring, consequently imposing a normalized assumption that their professional alienation is taken for granted.
