Finite Element Modeling Of KERI 30KVA Superconducting Generator

This paper presents finite element modeling of 30KVA superconducting generator which is being underdeveloped by Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute(KERI) as an experimental one. Finite Element Method (F.E.M.) is known as a powerful tool for the analysis of electromagnetic fields problems, especially for electric machine. The aim of this paper is to find the steady-state and the transient-state characteristics of 30KVA superconducting generator, and to predict the generator parameters through open circuit and short circuit simulation. We simulated steady-state and short circuit fault of KERI 30KVA superconductig generator and obtained generator parameters by FEM. The moving air gap method is used with the voltage source FEM for the transient-state analysis. Through the steady-state and transient-state finite element analysis, we estimated the parameters of the superconducting generator. These results can give the design criteria for the generator as well as be applicable for the design of larger machine.
