본고는 蔡维天의 2017년도「及物化、施用結构與輕動詞分析」를 번역한 것이다. 蔡維天 교수는 최근 경동사 이론과 응용격 이론, 그리고 제도이론(Cartographic Approach)을 활용하여 중국어의 언어 현상을 분석한 일련의 연구 결과를 보여주고 있다. 이러한 연구 성과는 여러 언어와 중국어 간에 존재하는 언어의 보편성을 이해하고 중국어의 개별성을 해석하는 데 큰 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 언어유형론적 측면에서도 많은 장점을 찾을 수 있다. 蔡维天(2017)은 중국어에서 최근 유행하고 있는 일종의 타동화(transitivization) 경향을 동사가 내현적 경동사로 이동하면서 생겨난 것으로 보았는데, 이는 중국어의 매개변인인 강한 분석성(robust analyticity)에서 기인한 결과라고 주장했다. 또한 다른 언어의 응용격 접사(applicative affix)에 대응하는 중국어의 기능핵(functional head)의 기능을 밝히고, 이러한 견해를 이중 비대격 구문(double accusatives)과 대상자 주어문(theme-subject sentences)과 같은 구체적 사례에도 적용시켰다. 이처럼 언어유형론과 제도이론을 활용한 蔡維天(2017)의 주장은 현대중국어 통사분석에 있어 여러 난제를 해결하는 데 많은 시사점을 제공할 것으로 생각한다. This paper studies a recent trend of transitivization observed in Mandarin Chinese. From the vantage point of comparative syntax, we argue that the apparent VO configuration actually derives from a variety of no-core argumental construals such as objective, comitative, benefactive, instrumental, locative, source, goal, and affective, where the main verb has raised to an implicit light verb across an oblique object. It is also suggested that, for a robust analytic language such as Chinese, there is no need to distinguish a light verb from an applicative head. A unified analysis based on verb-raising is thus in order. Along this line, the inner-outer dichotomy of light verbs can be carried over to other seemingly unrelated constructions such as the so-called double accusatives and theme-subject sentences under the cartographic approach.
