Abstract

This paper reports hierarchically branched structures of tin dioxide nanowires for use in electrochemical energy conversion and storage electrode systems. The shallow tin dioxide branches are epitaxially grown on the tin dioxide nanowire backbones that are directly formed on current collectors. The branched tin dioxide nanowires are applied as anode electrodes for lithium-ion batteries, while palladium-incorporated branched nanowires are utilized as electrocatalysts for ethanol electrooxidation reactions. The structural benefits of these hierarchical platforms, such as enlarged electrochemical active surface area, void space formed between the branched structures, and conformal contact of the electroactive materials with current collectors, play important roles in improving the electrochemical Li-ion storage as well as electrocatalytic activity.

Highlights

Hierarchically branched SnO2 nanowires are proposed as new electrode platforms.

Superior performances exhibited in applied energy conversion and storage systems.

Structural advantages of the branched electrode led to the improved performances.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Antiviral efficacy of oseltamivir against avian influenza virus in avian species.
Lee, Dong-Hun,Lee, Yu-Na,Park, Jae-Keun,Yuk, Seong-Su,Lee, Jae-Won,Kim, Jong-In,Han, Jin Soo,Lee, Joong-Bok,Park, Seung-Yong,Choi, In-Soo,Song, Chang-Seon American Association of Avian Pathologists [etc.] 2011 Avian diseases Vol.55 No.4

Avian influenza is one of the most contagious viral diseases in bird species and, increasingly, interspecies transmission to mammalian species has been reported. Prevention and eradication of avian influenza virus (AIV) infection in birds may require vaccines as part of a comprehensive program including biosecurity, culling, diagnostics, and surveillance. However, for valuable bird species in zoos, novel eradication strategies are needed, including antiviral treatments. The present study evaluated the anti-influenza efficacy of the potent neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir in avian species using the orders Galliformes (chickens) and Anseriformes (ducks). Viral replication of low pathogenic AIV was significantly reduced in the chicken model and completely reduced in the duck model. Anti-influenza drug administration to valuable bird species with an appropriate extrapolation approach could be useful for control of AIV in combination with active surveillance and vaccination strategies. Further, evaluation of oseltamivir against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) using avian models would be needed to optimize the oseltamivir application guideline for HPAI control.

Conducting Properties of Polypyrrole Coated Imogolite
Lee, Yun-Ha,Kim, Bum-Joong,Yi, Whi-kun,Takahara, Atsushi,Sohn, Dae-Won Korean Chemical Society 2006 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.27 No.11
Imogolite which has chemical composition, $(HO)_3Al_2O_3SiOH$, was synthesized with orthosilicate acid and aluminium chloride at low pH solution. It has extremely large aspect ratio with an external diameter of 2nm and the length of a few micrometers. The high aspect ratio of the imogolite could make the material as the filler for the high strength fiber and as the wire for the electronic applications. Here, Imogolite that derives considerable microporosity from a nanometer-sized tubular structure has been modified with a conducting polymer, polypyrrole. Its bonding and wiring structure were confirmed by IR and TEM. The measured conductivity after modification with polypyrrole increased with polypyrrole thickness at various voltage conditions.

In TFT-LCD panel fabrication process, there are many kinds of defects which cause mal-functioning of TFT circuits, due to problems in manufacturing processes , machines and particles in the air. Line defect is main cause of yield loss in TFT-LCD fabrication process and detecting them is very difficult because of their tiny size. we propose high-speed and high precise automated line defect detection system. In order to high speed image grabbing, TTL position signal generated by XY gantry motion controller is used to synchronizing signal of strobe illuminator and camera. The effective image processing algorithms to find defects using the microscope image is adopted. In order to judge whether previously extracted defect is Line Defect or not, detect zone which represent Gate, Data layer zone line defect mainly caused is adopted also. The vision processing can detect very small defects (under 2um) in 90% success ratio and 60mm/sec high scan speed @10X microscopic lens. In addition, through the implementation embeded image processing PC, low image processing time(100msec) in each image and it can be parallelized with image scanning.
