This paper presents the research results for the reduction of a gear whine noise based on experimental and analytic methods. The test vehicle has a whine noise problem at the passenger seats in a sport utility vehicle. To identify the transfer path of the interior noise due to the axle system, a vibration path analysis, modal analysis and operational deflection shape analysis are systematically employed. By using these various methods, it has been found that the interior noise generated by the axle system was airborne noise. To reduce and predict the whine generated by the axle system, structural modifications for the axle system are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques. The structural modification of the axle cover is suggested for the reduction of whine noise.

We report here on a case of nodular fasciitis (NF) that was diagnosed by ultrasonography (US)-guided core needle biopsy in a 31-year-old man, and we include the US and computed tomographic (CT) findings and the histopathologic findings at US-guided core needle biopsy (CNB). We suggest that high-resolution US is useful for the detailed evaluation of NF in the superficial regions, such as the face, and US-guided CNB is useful for the definitive histologic diagnosis of NF without causing scarring. 저자들은 핵 생검으로 진단된 31세 남자의 안면부에서 생긴 결절성 근막염을 초음파검사, 전산화단층촬영 및 초음파유도하 핵 생검에 의한 병리 조직학적 소견과 함께 보고하고자 한다. 고해상능 초음파검사는 표재성의 결절성 근막염의 진단에 유용하며, 초음파유도하 핵 생검은 피부의 반흔을 남기지 않는 조직학적 확진을 위한 유용한 검사방법으로 생각된다.
The CT and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Features of Transotic Schwannoma: A Case Report

Transotic schwannoma is a condition extremely rare, and we herein report the CT, MRI, and pathologic findings of a transotic schwannoma case in a 38-year-old woman. The lesion was identified as an expansile mass in the internal auditory canal (IAC) and a mass in the middle ear cavity (MEC) on the high-resolution, bone algorithm, temporal bone CT. It was shown as the following: the hypointense masses of the cerebellopontine angle (CPA)-IAC and MEC, and the hypointense replacement of the normal high-signal intensity fluid of the cochlea, vestibule, and semicircular canals on the 3-dimensional (3D) fast imaging, employing the steady-state acquisition (FIESTA) sequence; and the intensely enhancing masses of the CPA-IAC and MEC, and the intense enhancement of the cochlea, vestibule, and semicircular canals on the 3D gadolinium-enhanced spoiled gradient-recalled echo (SPGR) sequence. The mass was removed via a transotic approach. The pathologic findings were consistent with schwannoma. The assessment of the extent of transotic schwannoma may be enhanced by the 3D FIESTA and the gadolinium-enhanced SPGR sequences.

A 54-year-old man presented with an incidentally identified intensely hypermetabolic lesion (SUVmax: 22.2 g/mL) in the left maxillary sinus on ^18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (^18F-FDG PET/CT) performed for cancer screening. The mass was well circumscribed and showed solid enhancement on contrast-enhanced CT. Histological examination of the mass was consistent with oncocytic schneiderian papilloma. It is of prime importance to recognize that a sinonasal lesion with intense hypermetabolism on ^18F-FDG PET/CT does not necessarily signify malignancy. Oncocytic schneiderian papilloma should be included in the differential diagnosis of an intensely hypermetabolic and solidly enhancing mass of the nasal cavities or paranasal sinuses.

We report a case of follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) in a 74-year-old man, with interrupted eggshell calcification presenting with renal and bony metastases. The abdominal and chest CT showed three homogeneously enhancing masses in the right kidney, second lumbar vertebra, and left fourth rib. The neck CT revealed a mass with interrupted eggshell calcification and homogeneous enhancement in the left thyroid lobe. A thyroid mass with interrupted eggshell calcification and its peripheral and central vascularity had excellent demonstration on sonography. The pathologic findings of the specimens of the thyroid mass, obtained by sonographically guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy, and the renal mass, obtained by sonographically guided core-needle biopsy, were consistent with follicular neoplasm and metastatic follicular carcinoma, respectively. The interrupted eggshell calcification of FTC in the elderly patients may frequently be associated with the distant metastasis. Thus, this may potentially represent a poor prognostic sign rather than a favorable one.

Middle ear adenoma is a rare benign epithelial tumor. We report the CT and magnetic resonance imaging findings of a case of middle ear adenoma of neuroendocrine differentiation in a 36-year-old man. On high-resolution CT, the mass was found to fill the middle ear, in which the ossicles were embedded, but not destroyed, with outward bulging of the intact tympanic membrane. On MRI, the mass, which was intensely enhanced on 3-dimensional (3D) gadolinium (Gd)-enhanced spoiled gradient-recalled (SPGR) sequence, involved the middle ear, aditus ad antrum and a portion of mastoid antrum. Histological and immunohistochemical findings of the specimen obtained by surgical excisions were consistent with middle ear adenoma of neuroendocrine differentiation. Middle ear adenoma of neuroendocrine differentiation should be included in the differential diagnosis of an intensely enhancing mass filling the middle ear/mastoid antrum without ossicular destructions. The extent of the mass can be excellently assessed with 3D Gd-enhanced SPGR sequence.

Ossifying fibroma of the middle turbinate is extremely rare. We report a case of psammomatoid juvenile ossifying fibroma (PsJOF) of the middle turbinate in an 18-year-old adolescent female along with its CT, MRI and pathologic features. PsJOF of the middle turbinate may present a well-demarcated, expansile, solidly enhancing mass with focal bony destruction, which may mimic various benign and malignant neoplasms of the sinonasal area. A combination of clinical, imaging and pathologic findings is prerequisite for establishing an accurate diagnosis.

We report a case of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma involving the medial rectus muscle in a 47-year-old man along with CT, MRI, 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT (18F-FDG PET/CT), and pathologic features. The lesion was manifested as a fusiform enlargement isolated to the right medial rectus muscle with involvement of its tendinous insertion. The lesion was isoattenuating to the brain on non-enhanced CT images, showing as isointense to gray matter on fast spin echo T1- and T2-weighted images with fat saturation, and showed homogeneous enhancement on contrast-enhanced CT and MR images. The maximum standardized uptake value on 18F-FDG PET/CT was 4.9 g/mL. The results of histological and immunohistochemical examinations of the specimen obtained by biopsy of the right medial rectus muscle were consistent with MALT lymphoma. It should be noted that the extraocular muscle (EOM) is a rare location for the involvement of MALT lymphoma, and MALT lymphoma of the EOM may mimic thyroid orbitopathy.
