        Objective; The objective of this study was to observe and evaluate the marginal bone loss around implant fixtures after dental implant prosthetic treatment in the military hospital. Method; The total 100 patients with 224 dental implants were studied in the present study. Intra-oral periapical radiograph and panorama radiograph were performed 6 month, 1 year, 2 year, 5 year, 10 year follow-ups after implant prosthetic treatments to observe the marginal bone loss around implant fixtures. The marginal bone loss level between area of implant fixtures was evaluated with Mann-Whitney U test. Results; The mean marginal bone loss of the dental implants was 1.41 ± 0.93mm at 6 months, 0.98 ± 0.27mm at 1 year, 1.05 ± 0.26mm at 2 years, 1.61 ± 0.72mm at 5 years, 2.19 ± 1.44mm at 10 years after dental implant prosthetic treatments. There were statistically no significant differences between areas of placement(anteriors vs posteriors) of dental implants after 6 month, 1 year, 2 year, 5 year, 10 year follow-ups. Conclusion; Military hospital provided the good and stable dental implant treatments for military patients. It is recommended that broader and long-term studies are necessary to evaluate the marginal bone loss after dental implant treatments. Novel oral health care program for patients with dental implant is necessary.

        Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the oral health awareness of enlisted soldiers. By analyzing causes of dental visit and oral health care status of enlisted servicemen coming to the military hospital, it is attributed to the development of oral health policies. Methods : This study was conducted by 252 enlisted soldiers who first visited at the dental clinic of the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital with questionnaires. There were 16 questions with the consent of survey respondent. The questionnaire had an approval of the Armed Forces Medical Command IRB. Results : Dental caries and pericoronitis with third molar pain were major reasons for coming to the dental clinic. 83% of respondents answered the experience visiting the non-military dental clinic. Average of frequency of tooth-brushing was 3.1 times per day. 77% of respondents answered 1 to 3 times tooth-brushing duration per day. 96% of respondents reported that they did not have an oral health education experience during military services. Conclusions: There is lack of oral health education for enlisted soldiers during services. It is necessary to develop the oral health care program for enlisted soldiers.

        Objective; Host, pathogens and environments are factors of creating dental caries. Dietary factor among environmental factors is affected by sugar contents and viscosity of food. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the viscosity and sugar contents of the Army Meal-Ready-to-Eat(MRE) and calculate the cariogenic potentiality index(CPI). Method; 7 types of MRE including hardtack were studied in the present study. Viscosity and sugar contents of each MRE were measured for 3 times by viscometer and glucose measuring machine. Cariogenic potentiality index was calculated by the formula[Cariogenic potentiality index(CPI) = 2.581343×sugar contents + 0.598324×viscosity]. Results; Army MREs had the high cariogenic potentiality index were special 1, special 3, special 2, type I 3, hardtack, FRH(Flameless Ration Heater), type S in order. Conclusion; Some of Army MREs have the high cariogenic potentiality index and may deteriorate the oral health condition of military personnel. It is recommended that broader and clinical studies are necessary to evaluate the effect of Army MRE on the oral health condition.

        Objectives; The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the preventive oral health care with Professional Mechanical Tooth Cleaning(PMTC) for military soldiers. Methods; A short regular professional oral health care program with PMTC using fluoride varnish and chlorhexidine gel was provided weekly. Initial caries lesion and dental plaque were evaluated at the each consecutive visit using QLF-D. Results; Quantitative approach for the initial caries lesion and dental plaque was introduced. The recovery of fluorescence loss in the initial caries lesion was significantly high at the first visit after fluoride varnish application. Personal oral health attitude was more important than chlorhexidine gel application for dental plaque control. Conclusions ; It is recommended that broader and long-term study is necessary to evaluate the initial caries lesion and dental plaque control. Regular professional oral health care program is recommend for military soldiers.

      • 군 치과 CAD/CAM 시스템으로 제작한 보철물의 변연적합도 평가 : In vivo study

        Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate effectiveness of ROK dental CAD/CAM(computer-aid design/computer-aid manufacture) system, which is newly introduced since 2015 by measuring marginal fitness of all ceramic final prostheses(zirconia crown) in labial(buccal), palatal(lingual), mesial and distal marginal area on molar and premolar teeth. Methods : twenty patients who need caries removal and prosthetic treatment participated in this study to fabricate crown prostheses by using ROK dental CAD/CAM system. total twenty-four teeth(seven maxillary premolar, six maxillary and mandibular molar, five mandibular premolar) are treated to CAD/CAM prostheses. final prostheses is adapted to teeth, and marginal fitness was evaluated by using replica technique. Results : labial/buccal marginal gap of bucco-lingual section is 57.1μm(±11.8μm), palatap/lingual is 64.9μm(±17.3μm), and mesial marginal gap of mesio-distal section is 61.9μm(±9.6μm), distal area is 62.5μm(±13.8μm). In comparison of tooth area, the marginal gap of maxillary premolar, mandibular premolar, maxillary molar, mandibular molar is respectively 54.9μm, 63.9μm, 64.0μm, 64.8μm. In periodic check after 1 month, non specific finding is seen such as periodontal or prosthetic problem. Conclusions : In this study, mean marginal distance of zirconia crown prostheses by using ROK dental CAD/CAM system is 61.6μm, so it seems that it had clinically acceptable marginal fitness.
