Biodiesel fuel, an alternative diesel fuel derived from transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fats, is composed of saturated and unsaturated long-chain fatty acid alkyl esters. When exposed to air during storage, autoxidation of biodiesel can cause degradation of fuel quality by adversely affecting properties such as kinematic viscosity, acid value and peroxide value. One approach for increasing resistance of fatty derivatives against autoxidation is to treat them with oxidation inhibitors(antioxidants). This study examines the effectiveness of five such antioxidants, tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT), propyl gallate (PrG) and α-Tocopherol in mixtures with biodiesel fuel produced by 3 biodiesel manufacturers. The oxidation stability is determined with the Rancimat. Results showed that HBTQ, PrG, BHA, and BHT were most effective and α-Tocopherol least effective in increasing the oxidation stability of biodiesel fuel. This study recommends TBHQ and PrG for safeguarding biodiesel fuel from effects of autoxidation during storage.
디젤엔진에서 경유-CNG 혼합 연소의 성능 및 배기 특성

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the performance and emissions characteristics of a commercial diesel engine being operated in natural gas with pilot diesel ignition. This study showed that the performance of diesel engine with dual fuel increased as the engine load increased and as the injection timing of pilot diesel advanced. The peaks of pressure, pressure rise rate, and heat release rate were increased and the ignition timings of fuel were advanced with the injection timing of pilot diesel. The highest and lowest smoke was exhausted at the timing of pilot injection of BTDC 2℃A and BTDC 2℃A respectively. NOx emissions were exhausted more at the medium and higher load conditions and were increased as the injection timing of pilot diesel advanced.
