        하악골에 발생된 법랑모치아종

        Ameloblastic odontoma is a mixed odontogenic tumor, which is characterized as being extremely rare, displaying aggressive clinical behavior, resembling a mixed radiopaque and radiolucent radiographic appearance and containing both ameloblastoma and a composite odontoma. Seven-year-old boy complaining of delayed eruption of the left lower permanent 1st molar came to the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at Chonbuk National University Hospital. The list of our radiographic differential diagnosis included the dental follicle, compound odontoma, complex odontoma and cystic odontoma. The microscopic analysis showed the lesion with the characteristics of an ameloblastic odontoma. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The area was asymptomatic, but the delayed eruption of the left lower permanent 1st molar was observed. Radiographically, well-defined widened pericoronal radiolucency containing several tooth-like radiopacities involving the impacted left lower permanent 1st molar and well-defined round radiolucency containing irregular radiopaque mass were observed. 3. Histopathologically, several tooth-like structures, odontoma components with the area of typical enamel, dentin and pulp, and ameloblastic components with typical follicular ameloblastoma were observed.

        MC3T3-E1 조골세포주의 osteonectin과 bone sialoprotein mRNA 발현에 미치는 방사선의 영향

        Purpose : To investigate the effects of irradiation on the phenotypic expression of the MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cell line, especially on the osteonectin and bone sialoprotein. Materials and Methods : Cells were irradiated with a single dose of 0.5, 1, 4 and 8 Gy at a dose rate of 5.38 Gy/min using Cs-137 irradiator. After specimens were harvested, total RNA was extracted on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st day after irradiation. The total RNA was reverse-transcribed and the resulting cDNAs were subjected to amplification by PCR with a pair of primers. Results : The irradiated cells showed a dose-dependent increase in osteonectin mRNA expression when compared with the unirradiated control group. The irradiated cells showed no difference in bone sialoprotein mRNA expression when compared with the unirradiated control group. In accordance with the duration of culture period after irradiation, the level of osteonectin mRNA expression showed no difference, but it increased a little at the 21st day in the 4 and 8 Gy exposure groups. In the case of bone sialoprotein, however, the level of mRNA expression increased significantly at the 3rd and 7th day after irradiation, but it showed no difference at the 14th and 21st day when compared with the control group. Conclusion : These results showed that each single dose of 0.5, 1, 4 and 8 Gy influenced the mRNA expression of osteonectin and bone sialoprotein at the calcification stage of osteoblastic cells, suggesting that single dose of irradiation affected the osteoblastic bone formation at the cell level.

        전산화단층사진상을 이용한 하악관의 위치 및 하악골의 피질골 두께에 관한 연구

        The location of the mandibular canal and the cortical thickness of the mandible is important in the practice of dentistry. This study was performed on twenty chosen dry mandibles, which were of adults and included fully erupted premolars and molars. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the location of the mandibular canal and the cortical thickness of the mandible on computed tomograms and to aid in the surgical treatment plans. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The horizontal distance between the mandibular canal and the buccal external border was 6.6±0.9mm on S?(mesial root of the first molar),and it was increased posteriorly. The horizontal distance between the mandibular canal and the lingual external border was 4.1±1.1mm on S?, and it was decreased posteriorly. 2. The vertical distance between the alveolar crest and the mandibular canal was 16.9±1.6mm on S?, and it was decreased posteriorly. The vertical distance between the inferior border of mandible and the mandibular canal was 8.8±1.3mm on S?, and it was increased anteriorly and posteriorly. 3. The thickness of the buccal cortical plate was 2.2±0.4mm on S?. and it was increased posteriorly. But, that of the lingual cortical plate was 2.0±0.6mm on S? and it was decreased posteriorly. 4. The area of the buccal cortical plate was 66.5±1.0mm²on S? and it was increased posteriorly. But, that of the lingual cortical plate was 65.8±0.9mm²on S? and it was decreased posteriorly.

        하악골에 발생한 Burkitt 림프종

        Burkitt's lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma occurring predominantly in children. In some cases, the first manifest site is the jaw, and the disease may be misdiagnosed as an infectious disease. A case of a 12-year-old boy with a painful swelling on the right retromolar triangle area is presented. At the time of the first visit, it was misdiagnosed as an osteomyelitis. Included are several characteristics and differential diagnosis of this disease.
